  1. Democrat and Chronicle 02/20/2013, Page A01 Some gun makers stop sales to N.Y. law enforcement agencies Jon Campbell Albany bureau ALBANY — Some gun manufacturers say they will no longer sell their firearms to New York law enforcement agencies after the state passed a broader assault-weapons ban last month. At least five companies have expressed an unwillingness to sell to New York police since Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Safe Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act in January. The bill, known as the NY SAFE Act, included a ban on any semiautomatic rifles or shotguns with a “military-style” feature, such as a pistol grip or a folding stock. “In short, Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York” until the law is repealed, the Washington-based company wrote in a news release last week. Other companies to express a similar sentiment include LaRue Tactical, York Arms, Templar Custom and EFI, LLC, as well as sporting-goods retailer Cheaper Than Dirt. Tom Spithaler, Olympic’s sales director, said the sales policy is meant to “even the playing field.” The company specializes in making AR-15s, a semiautomatic rifle affected by the state’s new gun laws. If civilians can’t buy a semiautomatic weapon, then the company won’t sell to law enforcement, Spithaler said. “We feel as though if the state Legislature deems those weapons to be problematic and they’re a risk to public safety, then (law enforcement) shouldn’t have them either,” said Spithaler, who said his company had no pending sales to New York entities but has sold to the state’s police agencies in the past. Cuomo’s office dismissed the gun manufacturers’ decision not to sell to New York police, saying nothing in the new law prevents them from doing so. “It would be unfortunate and cynical if some tried to use this as an excuse to break preexisting contracts now that the price for these weapons has increased nationwide,” Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi said in a statement. “There is no shortage of responsible vendors who would want to assist New York’s law enforcement agencies keep New Yorkers safe.” It doesn’t appear the sales policies of the handful of smaller-to-mid-size manufacturers would have an impact on the state and local governments’ ability to procure weapons for police. The country’s largest gun manufacturers — including Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms — have not signaled they would halt sales to the state’s police and sheriffs. Neither company returned a request for comment Tuesday. Richard Carey, deputy director of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, said the impacts of the state’s new gun laws as they relate to manufacturers are still playing out. “Certainly, if resources are not available to law enforcement, that’s a concern. But we have yet to see what exactly is going to be the result,” Carey said. “We can’t point to anything specifically that’s cause for major concern at this point.” Cuomo, who led the push for tighter restrictions on assault weapons and the capacity of magazines, said he was unfazed by the gun manufacturers’ decision to stop selling in New York. “If they don’t want to sell, they don’t have to sell,” Cuomo told reporters Sunday. “Of course, we welcome all companies and their business. But if they don’t want to sell, fine.” [email protected] Twitter.com/JonCampbellGAN Includes reporting by WGRZ-TV in Buffalo.
  2. Nice looking bow . The rust on the end of the bolts would probably only be surface rust and shouldn't matter .
  3. WE used to have a drop-off for used batteries at the town hall but they discontinued taking them . As far as what size , rechargable or not , external power , etc , use whatever floats your boat !
  4. So glad they came out with digital cams . I still have an old 35 mm trail cam stashed away .......
  5. That was posted on here a few months ago but it was good to watch it again .
  6. Nice ..... I take it they didn't show up during daylight hours .
  7. My newer cams use the C & D batteries . I hate the cameras with the AA batteries and I had to change them too often . The "Wild View" cameras would eat the AA's and the cameras took 14 batteries each . I have a Moultrie IR camera out that still has 65% battery life after 2 months in freezing weather and taking 3500 pics ( due to the camera being too sensitive and taking 3 pics on each trip ) . I started using the "Jobsmart" batteries from Tractor Supply and bought sever packs when they had them on sale ( $5 for 8 C batteries ) . The Fuji batteries at Big Lots also hold up great .
  8. Hmmmmmmmmmm ! Is there a limit on how many ball point pens a person can carry to protect himself / herself ?
  9. Trespassing is illegal ! What's to understand about that .... Many are assuming the guy is after his dogs . Who knows . I was brought up to respect the property of others and not to go on it without permission . But , I suppose that's "old school" .
  10. Where is the camera ? Downstate ?
  11. I GOOGLEd Holley Squirrel Hunt and got a few listings / reports . Some of the responses were made that the hunters should be shot , etc .. Also that hunters are Neandthrals , illiterate and so on .
  12. Looks like a fat kid on a bike way in the background so they are probably out for a stroll and not hurting anything !
  13. The report is from New Zealand and I believe they said it was a .177 cal .
  14. Attended the dinner last night at the American Legion Hall in Ontario , NY . There were a few guest speakers Wayne County Sheriff - Barry Virts Wayne County Clerk - Mike Jankowski Wayne County Justice - Honorable Dennis Kehoe and a representative from SCOPE They gave opinions on the NYS SAFE Act and answered some questions . Sheriff Virts handed out some papers that explained much of the SAFE Act . Judge Kehoe was limited as to what he could say as a Justice but he is a gun owner and said that the only thing that would hold up any Pistol Permit applications is the amount that are being processed . He has to wait for the background checks to be done before they hit his desk .
  15. It would have been simpler if they removed the list and had the folks that wanted to , Opt In !!!
  16. Here it is .......... http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/A3908-2013
  17. I bought the Wildgame rangefinder with the Angle Inclination from the Sportsman's Guide and received it today . It looks like it is going to be fun to use the upcoming fall hunting season . The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't use a conventional battery . It takes a CR2 that can be pricy and not available in all stores . I'll check out Amazon for a backup as I have a few Amazon Gift Cards . http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/wildgame-innovations-r500x-rangefinder.aspx?a=1131983
  18. I wouldn't have bought them .... 666 is the Devil's number !
