Missed a doe today . Took about 140 yard shot at a standing doe and hit nothing but air as far as I could tell . Around 9:30 I had 2 doe come in from behind me and trotting . They stopped about 70 yards out . I couldn't get a clear sight picture and didn't shoot . About 15 minutes later 4 doe came across the back of the woods and I figured they were out of range but I wanted to shoot the ml so I cranked off a shot . They hauled butt , crossed the ditch and were long gone . Checked all around where she was standing and where they crossed . No blood . I called my son around 10:45 and told him I was going to walk slow through the thickets and might push something to him . There are numerous trails across this area but too thick to set anything up to hunt from . Anyway he said a small racked buck came out of that area about 100 yards to his right but he couldn't get a clear view as the treestand is set up in a Willow Tree and too many limbs hanging in the way . The tree stand was set up for bow hunting to shoot to the north and west . My son got a large doe from that stand last season during gun season . It started snowing some of the wet stuff and we called it a day . Tomorrow I hope to go to the range and check out my in-line to see if the scope is still adjusted or if I just blew the shot .

Sat in a treestand in Geneseo for 4 hours yesterday and never saw a thing . I set up a tent blind to use sometime when I am down there at a later date . There were some light sprinkles but no major showers . My SIL called me today and asked if I minded if she let her neighbor hunt the property this afternoon . I told her that I appreciated her asking me but that it was her property to do her choosing . Anyway she told the guy that he was not to hunt the gulley ( close to the barn ) or her pasture lots ( as her horses were out ) . She found out that he planned to take a few of his friends along to do a drive and she told him he could hunt her property but not to take anyone else along . This didn't make him happy . My SIL allowed another neighbor to hunt the property but he was supposed to let her know when he would be out there . The next thing she knew his brothers and 2 nephews were trapsing all over her property . When she told them to leave , they gave her a bunch of crap and said " she was asking for trouble " ....... Going to hunt that property tomorrow with my youngest son . We don't ever hunt the property without making sure it's okay and let her know when we would be there .

I have taken a sleeping bag with me over the years and used the military mummy bags but they have worn out and feathers come out of them . I purchased a polyaster filled bag a couple seasons ago and have used that while hunting . I used to be able to withstand the cold quite well but ever since I had a kidney stone surgically removed , the cold seems to get to me . It could be old age too ! I have taken several deer while having the bag over my shoulders and my son in law used to refer to it as my lucky sleeping bag .

It has always been my belief that you don't hunt a property that you don't have permission to be on . I let the folks that give me permission to hunt a heads up when I hunt their property so they know who is out there .

DICKs has the Mossberg 500 with scope , vent rib barrel and slug barrel in 20 and 12 gauge for $300 . They used to sell them for $250 .

I got smarter and used some discretion this year and didn't pig out . It worked I was only .2 of a pound more this am than yesterday am . It really got quiet after everyone left . My oldest son had brought some backstraps and venison "wassaburger" and grilled them for Horse Doovers ( hors d'oeuvres )...... DELICIOUS !!!!!

Now that makes no sense at all !

Yupper , you are right and I am wrong . I havn't had to fill one out this year and was in error in my statement . I keep a pen in my jacket and also the backpack . Usually the one in the backpack won't work in cold weather

You don't need a pen . All you have to do is take the knife out of your pocket or sheath and cut out the Month and day of the kill on the tag . It's that simple .

Finally some news on the Law Breakers !

We have at least 20+ people at the house for Thanksgiving . It crowded and noisy but worth the trouble of having everyone together . The Turkey my wife bought from an Organic Farm is too big for the oven . She found a website that has a video of how to cut off the legs , wings , skin the breast meat , and then wrap the skin over the breasts and tie it up like a roast .

I am 71 but not ready to hang up the bow or put away the gun . Not yet anyway . Two of my sons hunt and we often hunt together . I enjoy being there when they get a deer . I have struck out so far this season but I enjoy being out in the boonies ( most of the time ) .

I use a snap clip on each end of the string and have not had any problems ...... so far . The problem I have with pull-up / haul ropes is no matter how carefully I wind them up , they always get tangled when I take one out of my backpack .

I know Thanksgiving is tomorrow but I had to get this out today .........

I was loading my inline and the ramrod wouldn't go to the tape I had on it and it stuck out too far . I tried pushing harder to no avail . I pulled the breech plug and pushed 2 (two) loads out . 1) I knew something was wrong because the Ramrod wouldn't go in far enough . 2) Even if it wasn't a double load , I knew the sabot wasn't in far enough and there would be a big air space between the bullet and the powder which wouldn't be good .

I bought one of those from a guy that was moving and had gotten a HDTV . It cost me $100 . 2 young guys delivered it . I had to buy a well built stand to support it . It was an excellent TV . It crapped out on me and I bought the same TV at a shop for $60 . Someone had taken one in for repair and never picked it up . The $60 was to cover the cost of the repair . I still have it and it has an excellent picture and sound . $50 and a 12 pack is a bargain for the TV if you have a couple of strong friends .

I have shopped at several WalMarts and have run into a few dummies but I am pretty satisfied with most of the stores except maybe the WalMart on Hudson Ave in Irondequoit . I needed a holster for my Ruger LCP which has a Crimson Lazer on it . I went to one of the stores and talked to the Sports Dept manager to tell him I wanted to bring in my pistol (unloaded) and try out the holsters they had in stock . He said , okay and I was there a day later . I grabbed 3 holsters , found him in automotive , we went to the counter and tried the pistol for a good fit and I was able to find one for $13 . It's a Blackhawk Sporster Hip Holster . I have also bought ammo in a couple WalMarts with no problem . The nice thing about those stores is ....... they are better than most stores if you want to return an item .

I almost got a buck today . On my way home 590 was slow so I got off at Blossom Road and took Atlantic Ave to Lincoln Road in Walworth . My phone was on the passenger seat and I heard it buzz . I glanced at it and caught something out of the corner of my eye . A buck had stepped into the road . I stood on the brakes and the car slid a bit and he took off . Missed that sucker by a few feet . I was about 1/4 mile north of Atlantic . Scared the crap out of me . I was in my old stand in the woods by 12:30 and sat there until 4 pm . All I saw was squirrels . I was about 1/2 mile from my car so I headed back as sunset was at 4:44 pm today . I got up to where the trail was to the stand that I used opening day am and 2 doe took of hauling butt . They were about 40 yards from the stand . I watched they run through the thickets and across the neighbor's pasture lot . I looked through the binos and saw 2 other deer that had come from the East woods . Sat out until 4:40 and called it quits for the day . Added note ---- I had my hunting trousers in the garage overnight and they were cold . I emptied the pockets and threw them in the dryer . That made them toasty warm !

If you double loaded bullets and powder ? Would you blow up the barrel ?
