  1. Yeah . Remember I got a pic of the fat kid on the bike with his father walking behind him and got Flak for insinuating that they were tresspassers and was told they weren't doing any harm by site members ..........
  2. If you want an abundance of shrubs , you can purchase them from the DEC's Saratoga Tree Nursery . I was only able to find their 2012 info but if you call , they can give you updated info . They sell mostly seedlings and are quite inexpensive . My son and I have both purchased from them . They will ship the stock just before it's planting time . http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7127.html The main problem I have seen is the deer will probably eat the shrubs before they have a chance to grow unless you can fence them in or protect them by other means .
  3. Another problem is , the laws don't get enforced tough enough . The court doesn't come down hard enough on killings / woundings as a result of careless accidents . Makes you wonder what value is put on a human life .
  4. I put the cameras up about 10 feet or higher and aim them down . At least use an IR camera rather than one with a white flash .
  5. I am totally against making Blaze Orange MANDATORY . I don't gun hunt without it . I wear a Blaze orange vest , hat and back tag . I wear it for my personal safety . Making it mandatory could prove to be less safe . Guys won't wear it and shooters will think that if they see something move that doesn't have orange , they may shoot . As for the shooting time . If it was the same as duck hunting 1/2 hr before sunrise , etc , there still would be those that would shoot earlier because they have enough light , blah blah blah ......
  6. She thought it was an 8 point ........ She said the buck was grooming itself like a cat would do ....... The sub was roast beef with cheese , tomato , etc . It was a 15 - 16 " sub from Tops .
  7. My sister in law spoiled my day . She called me at 9:40 am to tell me that she looked out her back window and could see a buck laying in her Sumac right behind the house and he was grooming himself . I told her she should have waited to have the screening replaced on her deck which is probably at least 12' higher than the ground below . Her property drops off rather steeply 10 yards from the house . I had cut out a bunch of that Sumac last summer and it grew back . Saw several old rubs when doing this . There is an overgrown field on the West side of her house where the deer travel through .
  8. The guy is a dumb ass . Get him out of the woods . The article said he "patted" it on the head to give thanks , not "pet" the deer . My father in law got me started with deer hunting . He told me , "if you knock one down , put a slug in his neck so he doesn't get back up" . He introduced me to one of his friends that shot a buck and then straddled it to cut it's throat ( old timers did this ) . The buck wasn't dead and thrashed the crap out of the guy with it hooves . Jim had several scars all over his body and said he had somewhere between 60 and 80 stitches . He said he couldn't remember but showed us a few . Jim said he was lucky that the deer did the damage with the hooves instead of coming at him with its antlers . He did finish off the deer with a follow up shot . This was around 1966 - 1967 that I met the guy . .
  9. Congrats on another deer . I am still waiting for my 1st deer of the season . This has been my worst year so far .
  10. We met in Geneseo at 6 am , got our gear and headed for the stands . Two of us had to walk almost a mile to get to the stands . NEVER saw a thing . We walked the woods and the thickets and didn't kick anything out . Heard possibly 5 shots all day but in the distance . My SIL called me at 10:20 to tell me that a doe was in her lower pasture lot . She noticed it when she was heading to the barn to let her horses out . I had brought along a 15" sub that we split and ate while we talked about where we might put up a couple of permanent stands this summer for next year . Left around 1 pm and that was good timing as it had started to rain . Listened to the Bill's game on the way home .
  11. I still subscribe to Field & Stream , Outdoor Life , Deer & Deer Hunting , NY News and a couple other mags .
  12. I went to Mass last night so I could hunt today . I am heading out in a few minutes for a 50 mile road trip . I hope there will be a few hunters out there moving deer . Rain or not , I gotta go .
  13. My 2 sons that hunt and I will hit the woods in Geneseo tomorrow . Rain is forecasted a good part of the day . If I stay home it will be clear . If I go , I will probably get soaked but hopefully there might be a bunch of hunters out and about .
  14. Glad to hear that you weren't physically injured . Kinda sounds like a booby trap to have someone leave it that way . Someone is definitely a real a-hole !
  15. About 4 - 5 years ago , a couple of guys were playing John Wayne at the Ontario Rifle Range which is located on Trimble Road in Ontario , NY . They put a hole in a swimming pool located on Putnam Road which was almost a mile from there . There was a heck of a big deal made of it and the range was shutdown for about a year . Had to raise the berms , get certified to use the range and go through a special safety course . All because 2 dumb asses were doing something stupid . The homeowner was playing with his kids in the back yard when the accident happened . He said his daughter had just walked past the pool a few seconds before the hit happened and water came out of the hole caused by the bullet ( was later recovered ) . The club member was kicked out and he and his buddy are not welcomed back to the range . Point being ----- the bullet traveled at least a mile ( .223 ) .
  16. I was planning on hunting Sunday but rain is forecasted for most of the day so I really don't care to go and sit out . I don't think too many hunters will be out there pushing deer around in the rain . If my 2 hunter sons decide to go , I will have to drive to Henrietta to get my son's shotgun to him ........
  17. I went to Geneseo this am and took a web chair . I sat at the base of the Willow Tree after trimming a bit of crap that was blocking my view . I was relaxing at 6:30 waiting for 7:22 to roll around . Sat there until 10:30 . The spot overlooks a processed soy bean field where the deer travel . Nothing ! Walked to the woods and through the thickets and still didn't see anything . Went to my car and changed clothes . Stopped up to talk to my SIL before leaving . She was working in her barn . As we were talking , I spotted 3 does running across her neighbor's field . I had already called it a day and was in the process of thawing out . Did I forget to mention that it was cold . The real killer was when I turned off 390 onto 590 there were 8 does out in the big open area . Took the wife to dinner when I got home .
  18. Is it illegal to make a photo copy and have a tag on your back and also on your backpack ?
  19. I am going to try ground hunting this am . The stand I am going to faces blown down cattails where the deer had been sneaking through before they were flattened . The deer my son had seen from the stand in the willow tree came into the field behind him . He couldn't get a decent shot because of all the limbs . The stand had been set up for bow hunting toward the cat tail trails .
  20. Since I am still at zero for the year I can't claim any of the fat ......
  21. When you get that up in the tree , make sure the Turn Signal is off !
