Forgot to mention that I took 490 East out of Pittsford . A ways before exit 26 I noticed something laying relaxed about 60 yards off the road on some pristine lawn . It looked lifelike and it was . It was at least a 10 point buck . I was tempted to get off at exit 26 , go back to 27 and come around again just to get a picture . What a beautiful deer and he was safe . His location had to be around Bending Drive or Weyburn Way .

Thanks ! I hunted with my youngest son this am . I was setup and in my stand by 6:15 . Around 7:10 I had a buck approach my scent wick and then he veered off . He came back around walking real slow and I took a 25 yard shot that has been pretty much of a chip shot for me . My heart was pounding and I forget to hold my bow over the rail and I ticked it when I shot from the box stand . The arrow sailed just over the buck's back . I made a stupid mistake and it cost me . I guess it just wasn't meant to be . BUMMER ! I shot 2 practice arrows before leaving the stand so the miss was all me not the bow or anything else . I never saw any doe but did see 4 bucks counting the one my son shot . So , it turned out to be a good day after all . Got the deer field dressed and we removed one of our ladder stands that we are no longer using . With the warm temperature , we weren't sure how much deer movement there would be . Where the heck were the does . Probably staying out in the corn .

I have a Bear Grylls lock blade knife that would serve the purpose but I prefer using a fixed blade knife when field dressing . With a knife inside of the cavity of a deer I don't want to take a chance of the blade becoming unlocked . I believe in all of Murphy's Laws !

Which reminds me .... Wal-Mart , Dicks and Tractor Supply have signs by their food supplements ( bait ) stating that it is illegal to bait in New York State . They sell the stuff but put the signs out .

Nice going Wooly ! Looks like a nice size buck and should take up some room in the freezer . Also good shot placement .

Sat in a stand in Mendon from 6:10 until 10:30 am . Initially it was foggy but cleared up . I was hungry as I had breakfast at 4 am so I was reaching in my pocket for a granola bar and looked uphill behind me . Saw some movement in the sumacs and continued to watch . Saw that it was a small doe . She appeared to have a slight limp but I couldn't see any blood and her legs looked intact . Anyway , she stood on the trail that I had walked down . The wind was from the SE so she may have scented me . She crossed the trail at least 50 yards up from me and was heading for the corn . I plan to hunt the same area with my youngest son tomorrow am and then pull the stands late in the morning . Another guy , his wife and daughter gun hunt that area so we stay out of their way . We get bow - they get gun . It works .

Don't know . Hunting varies in different parts of the state . Since you are simply from New York , your question would be pretty hard to answer ..........

Seeing tracks and the bucks are hitting the scrapes ( at night ) . Saw one small doe today .

Which one ? The camera that I won I havn't opened . I may use it as a gift . Not taking any pics at the Mendon spot . Maybe if I had the camera out instead of the phone ......nah !

Can you imagine climbing into a stand and find out that big boy is in it ...........

First time all season that I had a deer close enough to shoot and I bungled it . I am soooo angry with myself ! ... ... Maybe I should try the phone / camera suggestion !

Debated on whether or not to post this under BLUNDERS or here . I was in my stand in Pittsford / Mendon by 6:15 this am . Put out 2 scent wicks and sprayed some Buck Bomb on them . At 7:05 an 8 point came down the trail that I had walked in on and went to the scrape . A tree blocked my view so I stood up with my bow ready for him to step into the field . He looked out in the field and started back the way he had come in but then headed to the north field on the other side of a hedge row . When he left the scrape he stood in a spot but offered no shot as there was thorn bushes , etc in the way . Later he went to the end of the other field and then across to the little gulley . Saw 3 doe , another buck and a not sure way up the field . Here is the BLUNDER ......I wanted to check the time so I pulled my phone out . It was locked and hard to unlock with my glove on my hand . I would be hitting 2 keys at a time . While I was monkeying around with the phone I glanced up another 8 point buck walked out between my 20 and 25 yard markers . I should have been paying attention . P.S. ---- it was 9:30am . I wasn't able to get either buck to return by using the Grunt Tube or the Doe In Heat Can . I wanted to boot myself in butt after that blunder but my legs are too short !

I use the single pin on my bow . It is adjustable but like above , I either aim low or aim high . Did this with my 3D target and it works fine .

When I was in the Marines , I made 2 Med Cruises . We pulled liberty in several countries . I was forwarned about the "rock in a box trick" before going on Liberty in Naples , Italy . A couple guys on the street would call out " hey Joe , you want buy 22 Beretta " and the guy would look all around like he was watching for cops and pull a box from under his coat and show you a pistol . He would put the box back under the coat and haggle the price with the unsuspecting Marine or Sailor . When the price was agreed on ,he would be handed the money and the person would get a box . The guy would shout , "Policia , policia " and run off . Suppossedly the buyer would look in the box only to find a rock . I know 2 JarHeads that had this happen and they showed me the box with the stone . I wonder if there are any rocks left in Naples ! If a deal sounds too good to be true , it probably is ..........

Well , i'll give the Mendon spot a try again tomorrow . I wish I could get into my youngest son's stand but I wouldn't try it on a bet . Almost have to be a contortionist to get into it . I'm too old to try that ! No luck so far and I am tempted to put out one of those Buck Bombs .

Another day out enjoying nature . I was in a ground blind in Walworth by 6:25 this am . I have 3 scrapes within 25 yards of the blind . Never saw a thing . I could hear dogs barking a few houses down the road and wondered if they scented deer and that the barking might send some deer my way but I guess it wasn't meant to be . It was cold out but I was reasonably comfortable except for my hands . At 10:30 I left as I had had enough ....................

Uhhhhhhh , next time remove the cable lock ! j/k
