  1. The guy who farms my SIL's property planted some late soy beans . The plants are almost one foot high . I expected to see the deer hitting them but they are NOT doing that .
  2. I thought you were on a sabbatical leave for a while ..........
  3. Not a bad idea . Have it weighed on a calibrated scale before using . Some bullets can vary a grain or so . Mark it with a felt tip before weighing . I would try something like a 240 grain bullet if I were to do this .
  4. Congrats on your 1st bow kill !
  5. Detroit won in the 5th quarter !
  6. A gun would be okay but I wouldn't buy the ammo . How old is the ammo , how was it stored and is it reloads ? Makes a difference .
  7. I sometimes think I had better luck when I would just pick a stand at random and didn't worry about the wind direction . The same goes for scent control .
  8. Here is the guy that shows up when it's dark on October 5 , 10 and 13th at I stand I have near a pond .
  9. Yesterday's hunt sucked ! I was out for about 10 hours and the only thing I saw was a red fox . On the way down Furnace Rd around 5 am in Ontario I saw a beautiful buck crossing the road near the Town Barns . He looked to be a possible 8 point ( not sure ) . I was in a stand in Geneseo by 6:20 and it was cold . I believe it was 27 degrees . I stayed there until 11:30 and then got something to eat and drink . Took a short snooze and walked a ways and checked my cameras . Around 2 pm I got back in the same stand as I had been getting pics of some decent deer on them . Had some light sprinkles that I thought might bring the deer out but no such luck . The camera in the pond field had pics of a buck but he was only showing up there at night . The lane camera had no pics and the one by the stand had a bunch but the latest deer pics were taken on October 8 . Nothing in 5 days . Gotta try somewhere else . Here are some pics from a camera I have about 3 yards from the stand I was using .
  10. Nice that you were able to get some video . Thanks for posting .
  11. I have 2 or 3 and live in Ontario NY for someone who wants to pick one up
  12. Congrats on trailing and finding your deer . I am heading out for Geneseo in a few minutes . It's about 28 degrees there right now . Brrrrrrrrrr ! Gonna be a cold morning in the stand .
  13. Hard to believe anyone could be that lame !
  14. Sorry to hear the sad news of your dog . We had one for 14 years and had her put away as she was losing her sight , legs were failing and she would fall down . Taking her to the vets was the final blow and I cried . We had her ( Holly ) cremated and have her in a container with her tags . Good luck choosing the right stand .
  15. Sounds like the next hunt in that area might be a good one . Git 'r done !
  16. Buh-bye , Buh-ba ........ Good luck hunting !
  17. We Bow Hunters have picked up 2 extra weeks early in the season . We shouldn't be complaining about gun hunters infringing on our hunts by hunting small game during archery season . We are still talking small game vs early archery aren't we ? We bowhunters have cut into the small game hunter's time .
  18. Better Crop Out the salt lick 1st !
  19. Welcome to Hunting NY from a possible neighbor . I live in Ontario . I have also hunted Italy Hill and belong to a QDMA group down there even though I havn't hunted there in a couple years .
  20. Drove down to Mendon this am to hunt with my youngest son . Had a doe cross the road in front of me when I made a U-turn to come back and park .I was in the stand by 6:10 am . Snipped some vines and sat back waiting for the sun to come up . Saw a doe and 2 fawns go through a guys back yard 300 yards away at 7:10 . Nothing after that . At 11 , I walked up to my car with my son . He was going home to eat and then going to a spot on Rt 251 in Mendon . I had taken my pole saw along and cleared some of the vines that obstructed the view from the stand . I had something to eat and drink and went back to the stand . Nothing was happening until 4 pm when 2 doe and a fawn ran across the far end of the field . Because of the surroundings I decided to leave the stand at 5:30 . I didn't want to hit a deer and have to track it in that place in the dark . Before I got down I took a couple of test shots to check out the bow . The stand has a wooden rail so the bow needs to be beyond the rail when shot or it might hit when shooting . I'm glad I checked it out before getting down . I was removing my hunting clothes at the car and the woman across the road waved . When she came down to get her mail I walked over and we talked for a few minutes . She has no qualms with hunters and said that since they started building a development North of her property they have been seeing less deer in the area . I left when it was still light out and went across VanVorhis Road where I always see deer . It never fails . They was a deer feeding in someone's yard near East Street . All in all , it was a good day . I saw 8 deer ............ A few views from the stand
  21. Going to give Mendon a try tomorrow am and hunt with my youngest son . Rain is forecasted around 10 am and off and on during the day .
