  1. We Bow Hunters have picked up 2 extra weeks early in the season . We shouldn't be complaining about gun hunters infringing on our hunts by hunting small game during archery season . We are still talking small game vs early archery aren't we ? We bowhunters have cut into the small game hunter's time .
  2. Better Crop Out the salt lick 1st !
  3. Welcome to Hunting NY from a possible neighbor . I live in Ontario . I have also hunted Italy Hill and belong to a QDMA group down there even though I havn't hunted there in a couple years .
  4. Drove down to Mendon this am to hunt with my youngest son . Had a doe cross the road in front of me when I made a U-turn to come back and park .I was in the stand by 6:10 am . Snipped some vines and sat back waiting for the sun to come up . Saw a doe and 2 fawns go through a guys back yard 300 yards away at 7:10 . Nothing after that . At 11 , I walked up to my car with my son . He was going home to eat and then going to a spot on Rt 251 in Mendon . I had taken my pole saw along and cleared some of the vines that obstructed the view from the stand . I had something to eat and drink and went back to the stand . Nothing was happening until 4 pm when 2 doe and a fawn ran across the far end of the field . Because of the surroundings I decided to leave the stand at 5:30 . I didn't want to hit a deer and have to track it in that place in the dark . Before I got down I took a couple of test shots to check out the bow . The stand has a wooden rail so the bow needs to be beyond the rail when shot or it might hit when shooting . I'm glad I checked it out before getting down . I was removing my hunting clothes at the car and the woman across the road waved . When she came down to get her mail I walked over and we talked for a few minutes . She has no qualms with hunters and said that since they started building a development North of her property they have been seeing less deer in the area . I left when it was still light out and went across VanVorhis Road where I always see deer . It never fails . They was a deer feeding in someone's yard near East Street . All in all , it was a good day . I saw 8 deer ............ A few views from the stand
  5. Going to give Mendon a try tomorrow am and hunt with my youngest son . Rain is forecasted around 10 am and off and on during the day .
  6. It took me 16 weeks to get mine in Wayne County in 1998 . I don't remember the cost but it didn't break me .
  7. You should have stuck a blade in that bad boy to let the air out !
  8. Someone else has the camera now . Is that part of Obama's Redistribution / sharing the wealth ? Sorry to hear of your loss Doc but my policy is to " hang'em high " ( that goes for the thieves also ) .
  9. Too few people think anout removing the Tree Steps at the end of the season and think they will last forever . One of my son's had one snap on him climbing up a tree . Luckily he didn't fall .
  10. I went down to a friend's property in Walworth and sat out for 4 hours . Didn't see any deer and no tracks where they had been traveling through earlier in the year . Saw a couple of horse riders . They started to come my way until they saw the posted sign and did a 180 degree turn and headed south . On the drive home I saw at least 3 deer feeding in a field on Swadling Road where I used to shoot woodchucks for a farmer . Posting some pics from the stand and a shot of the bow holder .
  11. Looks good from the stand Jon . Some wide open shooting lanes . Good luck .
  12. Am I seeing things or are there 7 pins on that sight ? Good luck !

Soooooooooo , what's happening with the Youth Hunt ?
  14. I exaggerated about any motion sickness . The wind would occasionally pick up and rock the trees but not all that bad . What was going through my mind was , " with the wind blowing , how much effect would it have on the arrow flight " ? I think I was over thinking !
  15. A guy that was a year ahead om me in school used to hunt squirrels for food with a 306 cal rifle . He would shoot them when they were on the tree trunk by barking them ( hitting the tree next to their head ) . He would then walk over pick them up and wring their neck . It was the only gun the family had .
  16. I have seen plenty of squirrels this past week in Geneseo and Groveland while bow hunting . The little Varmints are out all day long . In 18 years of bow hunting I have only encountered one squirrel hunter . I'm guessing not many people hunt them but I really don't know that for sure .
  17. Funny story Phade . Good job putting the deer out of it's misery .
  18. Early -- I guess you don't consider your numerous negative views on most of your posts as whining . I got news for you . You're whining . I started bow hunting in 1994 and have only ever encountered 1 ( one ) small game hunter in all the years I have bow hunted . As for the Youth Hunters , I don't care that they are out there . I put on some Blaze Orange and get in my treestand and hope that they will drive the deer to me . Now , quit your whining !

No it's not . With reasonable hearing you can pinpoint where a shot or shots came from . And there certainly is a different sound coming from a 20 gauge versus a 12 . At a very great distance it would be a but harder to tell .
