  1. meatmuzzy --- If it hadn't been for the blaze orange hat , you might not have spotted the guy in the pic ......... :
  2. Great pics G-man . Thanks for sharing them !
  3. The fall over the falls would no doubt be scarey but the sudden stop would worse ! ??? ... ??? ... ???
  4. We used the radios to let the others know we were situated in the stand , were moving to another spot or got a hit and was tracking a deer . We would set the radios on vibe and if say I buzzed someone , I wasn't to talk until I got a return . That way , if one of us had a deer nearby , we wouldn't be spooking it by talking on the radio .
  5. I wonder if folks don't think they hit a deer and don't bother to walk out and check . Pure laziness ! The 1st time I ever shot at a deer with the muzzle loader was in a corn field . I walked along the end looking down each row and spotted a doe walking across the rows . I moved mack a couple rows , pulled the hammer back and aimed down the row . When she entered that row I squeexed off a shot . The rifle kicked and there was a cloud of smoke and I saw nothing . I didn't see or hear her run but went to check on blood . The doe was laying right where I shot her .... 85 yards from where I fired . I always check for a hit whether it's with the gun or bow and still look around for blood . If I get a hit , then I will track for as long as I can . I stsrted deer hunting in 1965 . I have two deer that I never recovered and it still bothers me .
  6. I saw an obituary in today's Rochester D&C ------- Richard Clapp ----- ???
  7. As for not allowing canoes / boats in the river in the park , there are waterfalls that someone could go over if they weren't extremely careful .
  8. I just pulled my radios out of the cupboard to see what model they are . Motorola Talk-About T5820 . They have a range of 5 miles . The newer ones have a much longer range . I would guess the range wold be on flat groung with no interferance . Anyway 2 of my radios had batteries still in them . I turned them on and they were fine . I'll take the batteries out before putting them back . I think my Motorolas had a price of $60 7 - 8 years ago but I bought them when Gander Mt had them for $20 a pair . They worked fine for our needs
  9. Been there , done that and it has never worked for me . I wanted an inexpensive 22 for shooting chucks around sheds , barns , etc and had a Marlin M60 in mind . The gun dealers wouldn't budge to less than $135 . I bought that rifle at WalMart for $105 ,
  10. Yeah , it was still good shooting !
  11. I had a good set of Midlands until I left one on my rear truck bumper . Slid off when I turned the driveway corner and a passing vehicle ran over it . I have since used Motorolas with good luck . I had a total of six and my son lost one of them . We use to use them when I hunted in Italy Valley as cell phone coverage was bad ( no towers . I havn't used them in about 3 years .
  12. Dave --- Welcome to Hunting NY .
  13. Real nice looking cabinet BBall !
  14. I know the woodchucks could identify my truck but was surprised with the deer . I mean , these deer were way out there and looked up when I started to slow down . That's nervous !
  15. I guess the deer are still nervous . I was driving down Lincoln Rd in Walworth around noon today . I saw 8 deer in a field about 350 - 400 yards away . I slowed down and stopped to take some video and they took off . That far away and they still felt unsafe . It was between Plank and Jacobs roads . Anyway , it was neat to see them out during mid-day !
  16. I was watching a video with the Stanford University Band . Caught a glimpse of someone walking by in a rubber outfit that looked like a tree . I thought --- that would be some great Camo !
  17. It's difficult to pass on something free but in this case I would . I would probably try to make a trade for something else or sell it to someone , if I was able .
  18. Da-yum Mr VJP ------ This is probably one of the few times that I totally agree with you !
  19. Enjoyed the video . It was realistic . It's great that someone will show the missed shots instead of hiding them . Kudos !!!
  20. I hadn't seen it advertised . Thanks , I think ......... The thing I don't like about the dealers at the gun shows is they aren't willing to budge in their prices and they charge more than the stores .
  21. Something that I had intended to try is to take one of the expended pads , soak it it a mosquito repellant , let it dry and seal it in a baggie . Then try it out to see if it works . You might be able to find the butane cartridges in drug stores , WalMart , etc where they have curling irons as some of the units use the butane cartridges for heat in the non electrical units .
  22. Uhhhhhhhhhh , it must be the Stimulus Program ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/icon_smile_whistling.gif[/img]
  23. Why you callous old coot ! ... ... ..... The article said charges are pending against Milton ( the guy with the loaded rifle ) .
