  1. Quit saying crossbows are like guns . When it gets close to having crossbows legal during regular season , I will spend some of my Social securuty money on one of the PSE Tac-15 crossbows with a speed of 408 fps . It can be mounted to the lower receiver of my AR-15 . I'll wait because something faster with more range of 100 yards might come out before they are legal in regular season .
  2. Hey Burt ----- Use your gas powered leaf blower ! ??? ... ??? ... ???
  3. Make up your mind Jimbo . You started out with opinion and ended up with fact ........ : .... ... ...
  4. I passed on a 5 point and never got a shot at another deer other than 4 doe fawns that I watched go by the stand . No regrets ....
  5. I saw a total of 11 deer today . 8 of them when it had gotten dark . This morning I heard a barage of 9 shots and that was it for the whole day . Only saw a couple cars pulled off to the side of the road and assumed it was hunters .
  6. I don't hunt the State land . A lot of weekend warriors hunt there . I have had someone use a couple of my stands on private property and I could tell by the candy wrappers , pop cans and butts . It hasn't happened that much though .
  7. Made the trip to Geneseo again . Sat in the same blind . Saw a couple fox playing in one of the fields . At 8 am , I saw a doe and two fawns poking across the neighbor's field about 200 yards from mo spot . At 10:30 I got out of the blind bot my nippers and headed down to the laneway . I cleared a spot that put me 110 yards closer to where I had seen the deer for the last two outings . Moved the DogHouse blind to the cleared spot . Needed a break and drove to the DEC office in Avon to check on something and then went to get something to eat . Checked out the Avon Gun Shop and headed back to Geneseo . Sat in the relocated blind until just after 5 pm . Got my gear together and started to leave . It had gotten fairly dark . When I was 1/2 way to my car I looked down the field and could see movement . I looked through the binos and could see 8 deer slowly crossing the field . I wasn't about to shoot as it had gotten too dark and wasn't legal . Those buggers are smart and know when it's safe to come out !
  8. I was hunting in Geneseo today and drove over to the Region 8 DEC office in AVON and asked one of the DEC officers the question . He said if he approached someone and smelled alcohol or saw evidence of drinking he might just look a little further to see if there were any violations . But he said that it is not illegal as long as the hunter isn't intoxicated . He further stated that taking a swig of alcohol does not warm someone up and that it has the reverse effect . And don't try to convince mr that Sits wasn't expecting some controversy on the topic !
  9. I wonder if the jerk that did that is proud of himself .........That's pretty low !
  10. I would be tempted to try a 3 pack of those FLEA BOMBs . I used them in the attic and got rid of some bees that the exterminator didn't get rid of . The flea bombs knocked the crap out of bees so I bet it would do a job on the Cluster Flies . A 3 pack runs about $10 -$12
  11. I asked one of the DEC guys a question years ago about using deer decoys . I told him I couldn't find anything in the regs that said it is legal . Then he said , "If the regulations Booklet doesn't say it's illegal , then it's legal" ! He sounded like he was having a bad day . There is a lot of stuff that isn't in the Regs that you would think would be common sense but I couldn't find anything about carrying booze on your person . I prefer to see those things in black and white but can't get anything on the booze issue .
  12. You have room in those stands . Why not take both --- gun & bow !
  13. Yeah , but at least it's creating some activity on the site .......
  14. The only way I ever heard of to get rid of Cluster Flies is to fumigate the place . Here is what I found by searching ........... Eliminating Cluster Flies Cluster flies, face flies and blow flies are difficult to control once they have gained access to homes because they hibernate in wall voids and other inaccessible places. [*]Exclusion: Close and seal as many openings as possible through which the flies can enter. This procedure is time consuming and may require a dedicated long term effort. Window screens offer no protection from Cluster flies because they crawl into the home through small openings in the walls of the building. These same overwintering flies get into rooms during the winter and spring months entering through window pulley holes, around the baseboards and through other small openings in walls. A thorough inspection for locating and eliminating all possible entry points is a must, but will not guarantee success. For best control, use chemical sprays with your exclusion methods. [*]Surface Spray: Use a compressed air sprayer (Chapin Sprayer) to apply a surface spray to surfaces in attics, basements, closets, store rooms and other areas where the flies congregate. These sprays also are effective if applied to the outside of the house in the fall when the flies collect in these areas before entering the home. Pay special attention to the areas beneath the eaves and around the windows and other areas where flies are likely to seek entry. [*]Crack and Crevice Treatment: Using a pyrethrin aerosol for treating cracks and crevices will compliment your surface spray. This method is only necessary if there are areas to be treated that you cannot properly treat with a surface spray.
  15. New York The Governor Elect of New York is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out, bites the Governor, and attacks his dog. 1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie "Bambi", then realizes he should stop, the coyote is only doing what's natural. 2. He calls Animal Control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the state $200 for testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it. 3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the state $200 for testing it for disease. 4. The Governor goes to a hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for disease from the coyote and for getting his bite wound bandaged. 5. The running trail is shut down for 6 months, while Fish & Game conducts their $100,000 survey to make sure the area is free of dangerous animals. 6. The Governor next spends $150,000 in state funds, implementing a "Coyote Awareness" program for residents of the area. 7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease, throughout the world. 8. The Governor's security agent is fired for not somehow stopping the attack and for letting the Governor attempt to intervene. 9. Additional cost to State of New York: $175,000 to hire and train a new security agent with additional special training re: The Nature of Coyotes. 10. PETA protests the coyote's relocation and files suit against the state. Arizona The Governor of Arizona is jogging, with her dog, along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks her dog. 1. The Governor shoots the coyote with her state-issued pistol and keeps jogging. The Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow-point cartridge. 2. Arizona buzzards eat the dead coyote. And that, my friends, is why New York is broke
  16. there still beatin the horse in PA. Isn't beating a horse the LAw . Not if you beat it with a whisky flask ! : ... ???
  17. We have talked about this before and these "Pros" hunt the deer ranches where the guide has the stands set up for the shooter and the camera man . I have met Bob foulkrod before . Talk about egotistical !!! Some of those "tough hunts" are done from elevated stands overlooking a huge food plot . The tough part was probably keeping the coffee warm .
  18. My vote is Yotes . Those damned things will start eating their prey when it is still alive .
  19. Here are a couple of the stragglers from this morning ..........
  20. Drove to Geneseo this am and was in the blind by 6:20 am . There was about 3" of snow on the ground . I saw 3 doe run across the field to the west of my position at 7:03 . Thought maybe some hunters spooked them . They were too far for me with the ML but if I had been sitting in my sister in laws stand . I would have had about a 60 yard shot . At 7:33 I saw movement through the trees in that same field and 5 more slick heads went down the field heading north . I hadn't heard much of any shooting all morning long . Didn't see anything else and at 11 I took a walk down the laneway and half way to the woods . Saw very few tracks heading east / west . It was 31 degrees this am with a "really feel " temp of 13 degrees . I walked across the north end of the field that the deer had gone through but never saw any tracks . I walked across the field and never saw any tracks of the 8 deer that I had seen much earlier . The wind had drifted the snow and covered them up . I called it quits at 12:30 and headed for Groveland. When I got to my Mother's house , I figured I would get warm and visit before heading to a stand . At 3 pm I told her I was going to get my gear and head for the woods . Stepped outside and there was a strong wind blowing from the west which would be detrimental to hunting from my stand . I figured the cold wind had beaten me today and said nuts to it and went back in the house . Here is some video of the area I hunt in Geneseo http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj146/parker-bows/Forum%20Stuff/?action=view&current=GeneseoHuntingSpot.mp4
