  1. You gotta take care of the landowners! consider it customer service. The people who own properties i hunt free, get a big bag of processed venison, salmon, and a few i take out actually salmon fishing. I also make an effort to get to know the neighbors. Im bringing venison to 2 property owners on land adjacent to wha i hunt this year that i dont even have permission to hunt their land.(yet). Definitely sucks to lose it mid season, but with a little legwork, you may be able to find some new land for the rut
  2. i carry a bag in my pack for the heart, goes great with eggs and bacon=) i wouldnt go back for it though
  3. ive used them, mostly around late october/early november. i've rattled in a few, and ive snort wheezed in a few. its all about proper timing
  4. So i got the asat gear soaking wet saturday morning and wore out some dark brown wool camo for my evening sit. Wouldnt you know it a fat 4pt walks right down the trail and picks off my silhouette in the tree upwind at like 10 yards? Next time ill throw the wet stuff in the dryer. Predator camo is great stuff as well, same concept as ASAT, i like the predator fall gray alot. bkln, lancaster archery has some as do many other local archery shops, a quick google will show you some options
  5. Id stay away from the dayone camo, i bought my coat from him for way too much money and the quality isnt what id would like it to be. I got the light BDU asat pants from lancaster archery though for like 50 bucks, couldnt beat it
  6. Had in interesting encounter this morning that i thought id share. Got an ASAT coat and matching pants this year because i liked the idea of the open pattern and im 6'1 300# so i stick out in a tree. I had two doe come in this morning behind me, and the lead one picked off my movement when i turned around. I stood there in the tree 25 yards from them for 20 minutes as they stared right at me. Stomping there feet, walking around to get a different view, while looking up my tree but they couldnt identify me. It was like they could see my movement, but couldnt pick me off. They ended up just walking away. May have to pick up some cold weather gear, this pattern seems to work.
  7. Ill take the snow and our deer herd anyday. I could do without the state gov't.
  8. I've never had a salaried job, have been commission only for 10+ years. Upside, i make my own schedule, downside, im always working to some extent. I wouldnt trade it
  9. I'll be out all day. Cant wait to be in my stand, and i highly doubt ill sleep tonight
  10. I shoot 150 grain, only bc my gun seems to "like that weight" a little better. I can clover 150's with my 06 on the bench, but 165 or 180 and i have a 4-5 inch grouping. Id expiriment with a few different weights and see what works best and stick with it. A 150 grain bullet is more than enough for deer. If you need picture proof pm me
  11. I don't care if it's 100 degrees, or a hurricane, I'm splitting the day between 2 stands and sittin most the day because it's deer seasons baby! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. great work. Way to be a stand up hunter
  13. I might do it opening day, just to be in the tree in the woods. In all likelyhood though, ill sit from hour before light until 12-1, come out for lunch, and back to my evening spot around 3
  14. I take mine to a local deer processor, and if i kill one during the warm season, i gut it immediately and drive it over to his place where it goes right into the cooler. I have had to leave on in my truck overnight and i put 3 bags of ice in the cavity, and it turned out fine. Best bet would be to arrange with a processor that u may be bringing him some deer after evening sits and get his cell phone # so he can meet you.
  15. Just my .02, but check out the NAP killzones. no o ring, no shock collar. a much better design in my opinion
  16. Prettiest country i've ever hunted. I love being the only hunter for miles in some cases. As some have said, it is big country up there, and working knowledge of a gps/compass is a must. There are more deer than people realize but you have to cover alot of ground to find them. Often times ill cover several miles up there, and only have 1 or 2 small areas that deer are active in. Goodluck, you'll have a great time regardless of deer sightings

under armor doesnt really make cold weather gear, despite what they say.. nice stuff, not not warm
  19. They look like twins.. awesome pics
  20. I hunt what i guess would be considered the northern side of it, raquette lake/ sagamore area. Some nice bucks to be had but you gotta work for them.
  21. locals through 3rd week in oct. after halloween i start seeing "new deer"
  22. Started hunting in 1995. Probably 25-30 since then. At the end of the day,the time i spent afield with my late grandfather, father, brother, etc mean more to me than the tally.
  23. If your new at this, and it sounds like you are. Focus on areas where there is the most overall deer sign. If you can find the does, the bucks will be with them sooner or later
