First Day / Few Days for the Bow Season - What are you going to do?
NYbuck50 replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I usually wait on a doe until the first week has passed. With the Oct 1st opener, i find some bucks are still on summer patterns. -
Adding "to bend or not to bend" into a pre shot routine seems like alot more trouble than its worth, i try to leave myself less things to focus on not more

i agree with phade, i really don't like to bowhunt low spots bc the wind can do some weird things in valleys. I like the consistency of the thermals and the wind you get on top of ridges, and honestly i feel the bigger deer do too. I actually will get down into some on the lowland swamps though, later into gun season once theirs good tracking snow

fracking saved alot of local communities in PA too, im not surprised. Oil jobs in the dakotas, texas, and fracking up here are about the only part of our economy that's growing right now. Leave it to the Dems to try and do their best to stop the only sliver of hope in the free market.

Last bump for the yr -
Some great advice on here. If you cant shoot consistent groups, no matter where on the target, its something to do with your form. If your constantly grouping say low and left (or wherever) of bullsyeye, and you cant correct it by moving your sight, it could be your rest, nock point, etc, something a good proshop could fix.

That is one helluva hog. great pics everybody

My Hoyt Rampage XT is a 2011 model. They've come out with several other models in the last few years. Honestly i don't see any additional performance/features that warrant laying out 1500-2000 on a new one. Now if they come out with something game changing that my current bow cant do, maybe that's a different story. Any major manufacturers compounds from the last 6-7 years have very similar performance. At the end of the day though, there isnt a perfect bow, just a bow thats near perfect for that person

Likely Oswego, we've been smashing them pretty good the last few weeks. I bounced aound a little bit this year to different ports , but i'll be calling Wrights in oswego home port next year. I really love fishing out your way though. I was out there for 4-5 weekends in May and we absolutely destroyed spring kings and steelies. Everything seems 2 weeks behind here, which is why the boat is still in the water. Id normally be in the rivers with the fly rod by now. Goodluck to you as well, hope you pound them.

Im splitting time between Big O and a few of my properties. I'll be pulling my Penn Yan after this weekend though, to focus on the finishing up some last minute stand details, and spending some time with the binoculars.

Killzones are my preference, such a better design in my opinion that a rage. Those grim reapers are nice looking heads tho, hope they work out for you

Practice alot, and then practice some more. Dont be afraid to shoot whatever is legal the first couple years. And the most important, non safety rule of all....... HAVE FUN

I would shoot him and be very proud to do so. I hunt for and kill what makes me happy, not my neighbors or any internet friends.

That sucks, glad you are ok

Would like to add 1 more to our growing team this year in Syracuse or the surrounding areas. -
well done

I used them exclusively last year, 1st year as a rage convert. None of the 3 i shot went more than 50 yards with big holes. I like the no o-ring system and i feel its a better design than a rage. That being said, if you hit a deer good with any broadhead its not going to matter.

nice pics. i stopped and moved one last summer right by my boat launch. Its weird how they just sort of camp out in the road

Happened to me once, same deal.. Shooting into a 40 footx100 foot dirt mound on a sod farm. Cops pull up, said they had a complaint. My buddy has his then girlfirend along who happened to be an attorney. I walked up to them nicely and they said they had a complaint. I said, guns are all legal, were shooting into that backstop, 1/4 mile from nearest house or road, and my attorney is over there waiting to shoot that rifle if there is any problem. I got a laugh from the cops and off they went.

I believe they are owned by Dicks. the one in Syracuse(next to dicks) never had fishing or hunting stuff but dicks has a ton of stuff
