  1. i was always taught to give them a kick from behind, and if you see it moving to put one in the neck. Guess what was good advice!
  2. Thanks guys. The other hunter is my brother. He lives in NYC and only gets to hunt thanksgiving morning and the following friday every year. Was glad he got to put one down
  3. Hunting birds like that without orange is a suicide mission. Those guys are nuts
  4. Hunted pretty hard Wednesday afternoon through Friday last week, taking Thursday afternoon off for Thanksgiving. Saw over 60 deer in total. Wednesday and Thursday I saw about 20 doe while still hunting/pushing for my wife, father and brother. Friday morning things really took off. I still hunted across the top of a steep ridge, The deer were feeding on the flat below the ridge the past few days so i was confident i'd get into them. To this point in the season, i have a nice bow buck and several doe, so i was really just looking for a rack. By 10:30 Friday i had seen 9 doe and a small spike that i let walk. As i came over a small crest in the ridge i looked below and the flood gates seemed to open up. There were deer everywhere. I counted approximately another 30, mostly doe, a few spikes and 4 pointers. Most of them had moved on and then this 9 point stepped out about 130 yards. Double lung shot with the 30-06, he took 3 steps and dropped in his tracks. I've never seen more than a dozen or so deer in a day, much less the roughly 40 i saw Friday. Needless to say im glad i let the doe and small ones walk.
  5. Gonna be a FANTASTIC long weekend in the woods. Yea on 2nd thought, im leaving work now. Happy thanksgiving everybody. Im out till Monday
  6. Its not the hoarders causing the supply shortage its DHS. They are stockpiling ammo. Any guess as to why?
  7. There is ways around it, i think phade was right.on farm raised. You can actually sell panfish like perch, crappie, etc, and they are wholesaled to restaurants.Might be a similar sort of deal. Its always hard for me to pay for a venison steak or a perch/walleye fry in a restaurant, when i have a freezer full of that at home. Not to mention if i do order it, i usually find my wife cooks it better
  8. everything by me has been low in the pines with these high winds, if theres food or perferred bedding there they will come back eventually
  9. I got one.. Im at work instead of the woods
  10. The only way im posting a pic of a deer that big anywhere, is the hero shot after i have him
  11. I dont know where you guys are hunting but as far as #'s this season has been really good. in 7M and 7F I've seen 250+ deer so far on stand this year, tons of does and alot of small/medium bucks. Only thing thats been absent is the 3-4 mature bucks i watched all summer. (figures right)
  12. Great deer congrats. That is truly once in a lifetime
  13. With the cold front hitting this weekend, and what looks like our first good tracking snow this weekend, im wondering if anyone else still actively tracks deer. I grew up hunting like this in the Adirondacks, but it seems like people these days dont want to leave the treestand. I'll be dressed light and looking for the right buck track Sunday am if the snow comes. anyone else??
  14. Its effective and a whole lot of fun too. You'll be surprised the new bow stands you find still hunting through gun season
  15. If im sitting that day and not walking, id rather be in my climber than in anything else
  16. If im sitting that day and not walking, id rather be in my climber than in anything else
  17. me have 15-20mph winds forcast all weekend. i dont mind that with a little snow, makes for nice tracking weather
  18. im sorry but you could tell that deer was alive from about 10 yards out. you can see it breathing.
  19. I rarely hunt out of my climber after bow ends, but if i do, im just up in the tree higher. With the leaves gone, i can see alot farther as well. I can usually pick the deer off on their way in before they get me 20 feet up
  20. Where i hunt, we call that "a good problem to have"
  21. twice this year during bow i had doe come in with bucks behind them and do a 180 when that got wind of my estrus scent. I think it has its place in the prerut, but if bucks are staying tight on the ladies right before they come into estrus,i wont have it out again. i figured the doe smelled it and didnt want any competition for her buck. Cost me a nice deer a few weeks ago
