  1. I've used them sporadically over the last few years. never had much like with the can or the grunt tube, but i did rattle in a small 6 2 years ago. Kinda cool when a call works. I also put away all calls at the end of bow, they seem to spook deer during gun season around me
  2. I'd second trying to find a friend who hunts. I would say 95% of hunters would be happy to take a friend and his son out for their first hunt. This will dramatically decrease the time of the learning curve, and hopefully raise your chances of seeing some action. Goodluck and welcome to the brotherhood
  3. I shot it. IMO the guys who like Matthews will buy it because its a Matthews and thats what half the tv guys shoot. I think there are alot better bows out there for the money, but everyone likes what they like
  4. repeal starts at home. i received a questionnaire from dave valesky yesterday on my opinions on all sorts of recent ad proposed legislation. i answered his questions and told him id be voting first and foremost for candidates that do not impose restrictions on my consitutional freedoms. I wouldnt vote for anyone if they supported the safe act. The only way to get albany to listen is to vote
  5. Welcome aboard.. I hunt 7M most of the season, a little ways from you though in Linklaen. I think you'll find the deer #'s in 7m are a bit better than most of NH, but you have to put your work/time in for 3.5 yr old+ plus bucks. They can be nearly impossible to find once the guns start going off, but if you keep the pressure low on your piece you should be good
  6. Love those dark racks. nice job
  7. Astorino seems OK... Here's hoping he can take down the progressive voting machine and their droves of deceased voters
  8. That island is loaded with poision Ivy. be careful in the summer
  9. Nice rig. The more Elite's i see, the more i want one
  10. Still some with antlers in Syracuse area
  11. My Dad started my brother and I with our own 20 gauge NEF single shot shotguns. They are real cheap (100 bucks then, probably 250 or so now)Once we got our first deer, we were allowed to move on to larger/repeating guns. The thinking was its easier to keep track of one shell in the gun and a hammer safety, than it was to manage several and a smaller safety. Worked out well
  12. I always try to be in a tree as much as possible before and after fronts coming through. One of my favorite times to hunt is right after a heavy rain/snow in bow season.
  13. My home defense weapon of choice is a 12 gauge pump for 2 reasons. 1.) i really dont want to HAVE to shoot somebody, and if your doing something illegal in the dark, about the scariest noise there is is the sound of a pump shotgun getting racked. 2.) if they hear me chamber a round and keep coming, the buckshot makes sure they dont come any further

  15. looks like a sweet deal for a hundred bucks.
  16. That looks like it'd be awesome to hunt with. especially out of a tight tree stand or blind
  17. Thats crazy. Lesson#2. approach a wounded animal with your gun at the ready
  18. This si why i bought it. you dont have to use the retina lock, but its nice in those situations.. beats wounding one thats for sure
  19. I check it constantly when practicing, to ensure im developing good shooting form. Once you've shot with it for a while its almost second nature, so its not an issue hunting. Draw, anchor, quick glance to make sure the retina lock is centered, choose pin and shot. My bow buck this year came charging out of the thicket at 40 yards i had to yell to stop him. only had him stopped for a quick second and he woulda been gone. Even with the extra step of looking at the retina lock, i was able to get a good shot off and nail him. Since the retina lock is right above the pins, its very quick. in hunting situations like i just described, it only slows me down if your anchor is way off(i dont see this as a problem bc if my anchor was off, my shot will likely be too). Most times, because ive practiced with it so much, my anchor is spot on so there is no adjustment after checking the retina. I do still shoot a peep, but i shoot the biggest one they make 1/4 inch i believe. I dont think i really need the peep, but ive always shot one and its comfortable for me.
  20. I have had one on my Hoyt for the last 2 seasons. Love it. I do 99% of my practice shooting on level ground and 99% of my deer shooting from a tree stand, so i dont get the practice shooting downwards.. The retina lock is nice during practice bc it forces you to a consistent anchor. Also when hunting it helps you ensure you have a proper anchor on odd angled shots. Check out eders.com for the best deal. i got mine for about 110 bucks
  21. Guys i just registered to do this. Im going to hunt Buttermilk Falls Sate Park this weekend. I've never hunted this area before so anyone with any tips for starting points or things i should know about the park would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  22. If you can, spend the money on a few 2 man stands.. So much more comfortable than the little ladders, though i have several of both
  23. I put my climber on a tree that a turkey was roosted in in the dark one morning. Didnt realize it until he took off while i was half way up, almost nailed me right in the head. I dont know who was more scared, me or the bird.
