Better hope it hit an artery coming off the top of the heart. really bright and looks like artery blood to me but they can cover A LOT of ground in minutes if you don't take the blood supply away fast or take their wind away. If the angle was steep it could have hit the back side of the breast bone and explain why it didn't come out. I would bet it is fatal but I would give it time. Better too much time than not enough unless weather is going to wash the blood away.

Except for my ML my guns to not get the bores cleaned all season. the outside get cleaned and oiled but the barrels stay as they are from my last range session prior to the season.

That doesn't look like a bed site to be Looks like he was standing there. I would give it some time. Any idea at all where the shot was on the deer? How far behind the shoulder and was he full broadside or quartering to or away?

Antler Restrictions - voluntary or otherwise
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Deer Hunting
If they have an antlerless tag in NY the buck that shed is legal on that permit. A broken one is legal too al long as they aren't 3" long. personally I wouldn't have an issue taking a half rack if he was an older buck. the rack isn't what make him any wiser. You still got to beat him on his own turf IMO -

Belo, did you jaw age them? That bow buck though is a perfect example of what I was trying to describe earlier. Tough to tell on the ground like that but I would believe it was 1.5, great deer. If we decide we are going to take deer like that, what is the difference, really, in taking that one and taking a spike? (I know, I know, 6 points). I know what you mean about broken points. can really put a monkey wrench in the equation. One of the biggest bucks my Father ever shot, we will forever wonder about. Last weekend of gun, snow, her comes this monster doe, bang!!. I go to follow it up and there is lies. a Monster and even that late in the season, it scaled and 196# dressed. Had horn. both broken at an 1' to 1-1/2" long but the bases looked like Coke cans. Wish I saw him with his antlers on. -
I know exactly what he is.....OLD ENOUGH!!! Good luck on that one. Would love to see him tip the scale.

I have never seen a mature buck in NY that had small points, in size or number. With rare exceptions you aren't going to see a mature 4 point or a mature spike...lol. Actually a mature 6 is about on par with Hens teeth. Mississippi's rules would still not protect many many 1.5's in NY, especially WNY. Everything else considered if you want to shoot a deer that is over 1.5 the BODY is the best indicator. Study the characteristics, spend time comparing deer in the off season. Once you start to see the differences it sticks with you. There will always be the spit second decisions and the ooops that will happen because things can happen in a spit second, another reason not a fan of mandatory. -
I have been thinking of switching myself because I know guys that use it. I just really like the ease of the pellets and the load I have shoots great with the 150gr 777. But the OP seems to have the issue on a clean barrel so it can't be a powder thing.

Wow. I find that odd about the shockwaves. I have probably shot 20 deer with them and the exit hole always looks like you could put you fist in it.

Two sections of New York law, Penal Law 140.00-140.10 and Environmental Conservation Law (ECL) 11-2111-2117, define the rights of landowners versus recreationists or others who might enter or use private property. Penal Law 140.10 states (in part): A person is guilty of criminal trespass in the third degree when he knowingly enters or remains unlawfully in a building or upon real property which is fenced or otherwise enclosed in a manner designed to exclude intruders. Note that in Penal Law 140.00, which defines the terms used above, the term "enter or remain unlawfully" is explained as follows: A person who enters or remains upon unimproved and apparently unused land, which is neither fenced nor otherwise enclosed in a manner designed to exclude intruders, does so with license and privilege unless notice against trespass is personally communicated to him by the owner of such land or other authorized person, or unless such notice is given by posting in a conspicuous manner. ECL 11-2113 makes it illegal for persons to trespass on private lands that are properly posted under ECL 11-2111. This is why the need to PROPERLY POST your property. if you do not then you are basically giving any trespasser one free ride. You may get a ticket issued for the VOILATION, conviction is another story.

Agreed it can make a difference in the follow up shots. I thought the OP was having the issue on the very first loading.

Why would powders have any bearing on how a billet loads?

Have her Google cold pack canned venison. Will be some of the best eating you have had. Takes the poorest cuts and make it pot roast tender
-
I remember it being the custom and accepted but I was never able to have anyone show me a law or regulation that said it was ok. I also expect it still goes on I am 49

Larry, The father has a much more forgiving demeanor than I do.

And that IS what it is all about IMO. My father is going through his second bout of cancer in a year. It is spreading and he is on a second, heavier round of Chemo right now. Fingers crossed and cherishing the time.

But in reality what is the real difference between the 1.5 year old 6 or the 1.5 year old spike? (besides 4 points) -

I saw that but they didn't reference any source. -
Only two instance that I know of where it is ever legal, regardless of seasons. 1. dogs actively attacking livestock 2. Attacking a person.

Don't get your panties in a bunch just yet. I haven't seen anyone even post the DEC's plan to increase the AR areas. Has anyone? -
Forrest green polar fleece pull over. Every buck on my wall was shot with it on. Starting to get a little thin.
