Hector, The article says involuntary commitment is a reason for confiscation. It does not take voluntary commitment as a qualifying offense. This is how the law should work. The husband who had his guns taken should not have had them in easy access to the wife (who was deemed ineligible) Hers should have been taken and she should not have been able to get to his. The portion of this that I am on the fence is the things like temporary restraining orders and having their guns taken. I have never taken one out or had one on me but I don't believe the burden of proof is very much in those situations. I wonder what the people have to do to get the guns back or if they ever can. I also am wondering about a person arrested for a crime as opposed to those actually convicted of a crime. I would think the confiscation should take place on conviction?

Do you meant the mounts to the gun or the rings around the scope? -

I don't believe that anyone here is saying to let the land owners set the regulations...are they? I was more speaking to the fact that is a landowner didn't want crossbows during archery season and they wer legal they could set the rule that they can't be used. I do know land owners in rifle country that do not allow them on their property. THey don't feel comfortable and i believe they have that right. -

I see the opposite where I am. The bow hunters I know would vote for it. I don't know one bowhunter that is against it. I do know quite a few like me that wouldn't use one if it did get included and don't see how another using one would affect my hunting one bit. -

It is apples and oranges Belo. I am not talking about a vote in an nonparticipating group like the Safe act vote would include. A more accurate example would be to ask about an assault weapon ban among gun owners or a pistol magazine reduction among all gun owners. I am not talking about asking all hunters I mean to ask just bow hunters. (FYI the support is coming from downstate) The numbers do not hold for upsate. Unfortunately we can't just give the City away. I would be happy with any purchase offer that gets our investment of $23 in trinkets and beads back...lol. -
exceptions? I was sure in any place that allowed a gun you could use a pistol in a rifle caliber. Where do you see the exceptions?

I am in the same process with my daughter right now. the scholls are narrowed down and all the visits are done. We are just getting the $$ ironed out. She has maintained a very high GPA with many AP courses. She has some great merit scholarships but we are in the same boat for the Aid.....make too much to get any but not enought to just blindly write the check....lol. She is going for the Dr. of Physical Therapy and all but one of her school choices are here in NY and that makes her Mom very happy.

How would the guys against crossbows being included feel about a mandatory vote by only bowhunters holding a valiid bowhunting license? How do you think the tally would pan out? -

Can anyone give me an idea of how much is on the ground in the woods before I drive all the way down there?

I have never tried these. I have had cattail root and bud. Indian cucumber root and I have eaten the fiddleheads. including things to make teas there are many edibles in the NY woods. Almost forgot Burdock. Our chance to get back at the species for all the hours picking things off the clothes.

Many hunt private land that they don't own. The majority of property I hunt is not owned by me. Explain to me how having the person that owns the land having the final say how it is hunted being a bad thing? Do you thhink the majority of bow hunters hunt state land? I don't know but I would like to. -
Those are the presale packages and the best value. If you purchase 100 you get 200 in tickets to use. They will be on sale that night as well but there you buy a $20 ticket (which has 5 stubs to use in which ever bucket you want for the Chinese raffle) There is also are silent auction items and live auction items. There will be games and other opportunities during the night for other prizes and a 50/50 game to guess the rack scores of 3 racks. Should be a good time. The $250 ticket package is the only way to get a ticket for the gun of the year raffle. That should be some pretty good odds for anyone that wants a shot at a gun.

I threw this out before but only in jest but the more I think of it, I feel it is a good compromise. Allow full inclusion during bow season on private land. Leave it up to the land owners to make the call for their property. -

I think many have an issue of setting the bar to exercize of a right under the label of a certain level of "responsibility". That is the justification of the interview process and the whole permit process leave to much to the county's feeling. I deal with hiring people all the time. Not very often a person puts a reference that doesn't give them a glowing report. Personally i think the reference portion of the permit process is a waste of time. -

I have eaten them but never prepared them. SPot on with the ones born this year!! I have no idea if this is an ole wives tale but the guy that prepared them talked about a scent gland in them that needed to be removed and he compared it to a tarsal gland. I have no idea where it/they are or what they look like, but he swore that is what made them taste bad. I liked his. it was like stringy pot roast.

And that is a great example of what IS wrong with our system. The county requirements vary from one to the other. This one needs 4 with no LEO, this one can use LEO, If you haven't lived there for 3 years you need 4 from previous and 4 from current, this county requires a safety course and this one doesn't....on and on. -
