  1. that wa the driving force in getting the cabin wired for the 12 volt system...lol
  2. Rule #1 at our camp is not passing gas in the bunk room. The two guys that snore are on CPAP machines now so it is nice and quiet. The only thing we run into is the race for the bathroom in the am to see who gets the palce before it gets polluted
  3. So true Beside the desire to roam during the rut ....you could have a bigger bodied scraggle racked buck run off that nice typical you have been watching....much of the fighting is won by the larger deer. No points in the battle for the largest head gear.
  4. Opening weekend dinner is always backstrap...I guard the last two with my life for the event. Pot of venison chili on the wood stove......nice cigars...and a bottle of Jameson Reserve
  5. i used the lights that came with the kit ...one in the loft for the guys getting in and out and dressing and one on the porch for making beer runs . They do light pretty well. I want to find a couple more to use inside in some darker areas that the propane lights don't really light up well enough for detailed tasks. I can't find the ones from the kit sold by themselves though.
  6. Yesterday I was at my local SAM'S CLUB buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog, and was in the checkout line when the woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again.. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Sam's Club won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people! They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.
  7. and as hard as we try things do go wrong. I would ever take a head on shot, but I can think of at least on scenario that the bow hunter might have thought he was doing everything right. A broad side shot.....hunter focused on the spot and as the release is going off the deer does that turn it's neck back thing to lick it's hind quarters or scratch it head with the rear hoof. I rally have tried to only take high percentage shots in my hunting career. Good shots that would be "ethical"...bow and gun. I felt pretty proud that I had never lost a deer.....that was until last year. A small branck I did not see sent my ML bullet just far enough off to send me on a mile and a half tracking jaunt that stopped on posted property that the farmer would not let me on. Bad things can happen to the best intentioned folks.
  8. I would have pretty much run you that much to do it yourself....more if you factored in your time. Looks great.
  9. what I seem to hate about Dick's is they never restock once a season starts. Try to buy steel 1'2 or 2's once duck season is half over....try to get replacement broadheads once the season is underway....ice fishing supplies are great in november and December but suck when we actually have ice.
  10. Nice lookig unit....8x12? Mind if I ask what it set you back?
  11. I have seen those very stones in Local Agway stores.
  12. They sell lots of stuff here that you can't use legally. Rage 3....these baits....buck shot. It isn't fair that some could get "lured" in to buying and usig this stuff but it is up to us to know the difference. When in doubt....let you buddy try it first
  13. box trap him if you are worried about how it will be viewed.
  14. I am not sureif there is any near you but cooperative hunting land can be a level in between hunting state land and having lone private access. I have found properties in the Mohak valley and most of them are some sort of farm so the hunting is pretty good. depending on the property and the owner some get more pressure than others. But access is controlled by permission slips only. Outside of opening weekend I have had very good luck on them. Somethng you might consider. I found the ones I got permission on by just driving.....driving.....then driving some more. I would shoot you where the ones are down there but that may be a bit of a hike for you
  15. Yote season isn't 24/7/365.....hmmmmmm...go figure.
  16. Until they construct a five star treestand with hot and cold running water and a flush toilet....I never have to ponder the impacts of the Mrs. tagging along......and you know....I think I am just fine with that
  17. Eddie...That looks like an "ethical" shot some BOW HUNTER took > . That hunter is so skilled that they used that tracking string thing.
  18. Doc. No one was saying that gun season was less disturbing. Bubba hit it on the head. The reason gun disturbs and alerts the deer more is by the fact that more hunters participate in gun season....the big BANG aside...lol. I believe most hunters practice the same level of scent control and stealthwhen they carry their gun as they do their bow...I do. I think it boils down to numbers.....and the gun hunters have the numbers.
  19. Well let me add these facts to your roster then. I am a hunter. I use a bow..shotgun..rifle and muzzleloader. I have had to shoot two deer in 30 years of deer hunting that were gun wounded ........I have had to turn over five to the DEC that I took in gun season that were sporting arrow wounds and so infected the were not fit for consumption. You may very well be an ethical hunter but you lack understanding.....the implement does not make one ethical or not....the hunter is solely responsible for that. Unfortunately there are unethical folks in our sport just as in every walk of life. That broad brush you are armed with is just as unethical when you against your own. Let me take a stab in the dark.......NY BOWHUNTER member?
  20. More ethical...well there is a new elitist spin. I was understanding your opinion but with that comment I can tell you have no idea what the sport is all about....you are wasting your breath...that comment alone clearly defines you
  21. Enjoy it now. Life has a way of trimming time that is available for our love ....the hunting I mean
  22. Ditto, WNY....I have to say with your comment....I put you under 25 and single...lol
  23. I never did. Buddy did some measuring to satisfy his "need to know". Said it was high 140's. Brow tines are where he is lacking....well brow tines...and his meat....which is mostly in my stomach He had a twin and I know he made it through the season....but haven't seen him yet this year. The Taxidermist aged him at 4-1/2
