Phade. It has been years since I have hunted 8C. I have heard of the extra tags for DOES....have gotten a few my self back then. Where do you read that it works for bucks too?
-
Gotta agree...just stupidity. Every year you get a regulation book with you license....so every hunter should know the regulations. Now...the law not to feed......that might catch someone from the public. But a lot don't care anyway. I can't tell you how many folks I have seen over the years feeding ducks right next to "Don't feed the ducks" signs

Let me guess the reply. "Many hunters in the state travel to other states where the use is not illegal. It is not our, the DC's, intention to limit the legal efforts of NY hunters in other states." any one wanna bet?

For you food plotters or field watchers
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Doc's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Did they give any indication what you need for batteries and how long they last?....sounds like you might have to build a mini nuke to power something like that. -
I would think that around you guys a food plot would draw like a magnet then. I can't see wasting the money where I am in 8H....I could never compete with the beans and corn. Really stinks that you are in this situation. If you can't get in the lottery at all without a pref point....How do you get a pref point?

Biz---you just trying to stip stuff up?...lol All those old Winchesters, Remingtons, Brownings, Savages, on and on.....those all modern replicas? -
I have pretty much been using ladder stands exclusively the last few years. I did use a few fixed stand as well. I look for features rather than the name when looking at those two types. I like to be there all day so padding...padding and more padding. I like the hammock seats rather than the mesh with a cushion. I like flip up rails. On ladder stands I like a full platform. I don't take them out every time I use them so if transporting every day is a concern I really suggest a cllimber.

Another note....there are great used guns out there too. If you heart isn't set on new...I know a guy that just got a 700 bdl in 35 wheelen topped with a leupold 2-7 for $500...mint condition.....with 100 rounds -
Gun advice please
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Shoot_Straight's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
First. Typically the combos don't come with great glass. That said. If you are going to hunt open sights I would get the A-bolt. There is nothing wrong with the Savage either. i have shot both. I am a little partial to the Remington 700 because that is what I am use to -
have you check the alignment of the knock on the arrow to assure the cock fletching is straight up? To make sure it isn't hitting a brush on the rest? Are they fletched straight or are yuo shooting a helic fletching? Helics sometimes do not fare to well in a rest like that?

Full Metal jackets, 340's. G5 Montec broad heads. It is going to be the first time I used a cut on contact broadhead......can's wait to try them out. I will be spending a fw weeks with the feild tips before I switch over.

It really boils down to quality .....long term quality. I have a guy I us in Rochester. He is definitely not the cheapest but his quality is great. He tans his own hides and tans for a lot of other guys across the state. The way I look at it is you do really get what you pay for and if you want to display the animal make sure it does it the justice it deserves. Mine I just got back was full sneak ...head turned and was $535

Well after trying some new bows out I settled on the Hoyt Carbon Element. I am beyond please with it. In 1/2 hour of shooting it is dead on at 20-30-40. Super tuned and 65 draw weight. It is developing 77 ft/lbs at 5 yards. Makes selling the motorcycle much easier to swallow. I know I will get more use out of this.

Killing Bucks with poor genetics
Culvercreek hunt club replied to WhitetailCrazed11's topic in Deer Hunting
Actually G....many can't. Drop yourself into some NZ areas for a few seasons. It is easy to say this but excepth for the lake ontario and st lawrence rim.....it is hard hunting with many restless days.....and no doe tags -
Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
And all this sounds great...but what about the fellow hunters in areas were there are very limited or no doe permits. I keep hearing statewide this and statewide that. My high issue with any of this is. NY have too many varying conditions and habitat to manage on a "state wide basis". Heck sighing the WMU's the conditions and populations vary.herd management is not something we should be painting with a broad brush- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
John, you may believe it is not needed statewide. Yet there are still those saying it should be. I can't help but think a lot of guys that want this hope this will give them a mounted behind every tree.- 1885 replies

Ej. And jc......how many other areas of the state do you hunt. I am just curious what you are using as a basis for this unhealthy deer herd we have? -

How about this all you guys that feel so high and mighty letting the little ones walk......hop of you high horse and get the law changed....until then quit trying to make the ones tha have a legal rightto shoot a spikefeel like a criminal. You are pompus and arrogant. How dare you.....and for the record I DO enjoy killing animals.....and I would believe you do to. Unless you have some special catch and release technique I am not aware of -
Welcome Kevin, The new license year for the tags you will be getting starts on October 1st in the Norther Zone. Souther zone archery opens in mid October. The NZ is loaded with state land. Some very large counrty up there and the hunting of those large tracts can be quite a challenge. Try this site ...It is a state land locator and can be used to view different areas. Might cut down on some of your leg work. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html

OK....to tie t thred together with a CPAP I have a great story. Me and 3 other guys went down to Dover 2 years ago for the race. We rented a room. the one guy wears a machine. Now imagine what the raunchy gas situation was like with our diet on that weekend. Well the guy with the machine got tanked and went to bed early.....big mistake. One of the guys snuck over and led one rip right on the air intake of his machine....needless to say it woke him right up since it was pressurized foulness right into the Ol' Factory...lol...and no it wasn't me
-
Not to stray to far off but....lol. The machine just puts positive pressure and maintains a normal breathing. My fater said he had no idea how tired he had been until he got this machine......now 7-8 hours is plenty of sleep. before he would be falling asleep during the day. The snoring is more of a symptom of the condition...or a contributing factor....but I can tell you the gentle hum of the machine is MUCH better than the metal siding rattling from the snoring.
