Of course they teach history in American schools. They cannot go into the details of the founding fathers' intents and rationale in grade school....that is more likely a graduate course in college law schools. No need to misrepresent to make your case. Arrow, I really think you are over stating the education our kids get. My daughter is a sophomore and taking all Junior courses. she only has one year left of what what would typically be a 12 grade education. I stay very in tune with the topics and she has recieved more instruction in the history of the middle east than the US Constitution. The other thing I have an issue with in their instruction on current affairs. It blows my mind how most kids I run across don't have a clue about what goes on around them. I gre up reading the paper everyday. My daughter think we get it just for the ad flyers and coupons...LOL

Well in fairness we do have writings form the that discuss the topic. No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms. ---Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ---Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759 (That one is for you Virgil )

just take the assault weapon ban. If they felt it was needed they shoud have done it through ammendment. Go back even further. they did it for fully automatic weapons too. (And I don't think households need them). It should have been handled just like they did with prohibition. Ammend the constituion to ban alcohol. They had the votes and when the heat got too much they had the votes to repeal it. Now they thought enough that they believed a right to use alcohol...among other componets of phrobition...was a right and needed an ammendment. I have looked. I can't find any reference to how we should be able to drink in any of our founding documents...lol. They took that route with a 'freedom' that was so obscure but to legislate against one that is clearly outlined in wrong. That is my point

I agree WNY....and everyone know that the only thing in North America that hides large game in trees is bigfoot Actually, do a little research on cougars, they do not drag their kills up into trees, they cover them up.

exactly...and I have never said that any faith should not be granted the freedom to practice as long as that 'practicing' does not step on another frredom I hold so dear for all of us...life. And I question other members of Islam because many are so reluctant to speak out against those actions. It makes me question motives as I would question those type actions in any analysis of behavior

Liberal or possibly even farther left. And it shows in your posts and reactions. How can you interpert Elmers' comments any other way...easy. He is asking that since you are obviously a gun owner you are not in the "non-owning and have no use for guns' people and group. And based on your comments on Islam it appears you are not practicing it....a group/creed. you seem to take an very passionate support position of these yet appear not to be a part of them. That was his question. very simple....and not a peep about race until you brought it up.....refer to the first two sentences in this post of mine. Just observations based on your actions and posts...and that is reflecting my true nature---questioning those who find it so easy to discount the values and rights that got us to where we are today.

It isn't emotional at all. Let's just look at China who we are going into more debt every day too. How can you justify our handing over aid to them. How about the oil rich countries. We sit here at their mercy for a large portion of our consumed oil and again dish out aid. Is that for fear that they will hold their product from us. Could be the only justification of it...right or wrong I am not sure. Look at the list and that is NOT the total dole out to the world. THe list is filled with countries that are located in central and southern Africa. What benefit do we get from that aid? That is your tax money going over there. I would rather see it spent at home if it 'has' to be spent at all.

Virgil....take a run down this list...look at all the ones that run their mouths about how Bad and evil we are...then look at the list of countries that I really can't think of as serving any purpose for us to contribute to. They are numbers from 2008 which are teh latest I have ever come across http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2011/tables/11s1298.xls

Isn't that the parents job? You can't possibly entrust your children's future and way of thinking in some one else. I know its easier to stand and point fingers but really it is all in how a child is raised to begin with. I agree is is my job...not the teachers job.....they should have done theirs and left mine to me. not trying to over ride what I instil

New to bear hunting...looking for advice
Culvercreek hunt club replied to G-Man's topic in Bear Hunting
at that range any deer round will be fine. My preference from the rifles listed before would be the 30-06. but the 270 would be fine. Any ML set up and loaded for deer will work on that set up. Comfortable clothes so you can sit .....and the best money you will spend will be a thermacell to keep the black flies and skeeters away. First time I went up to CA for a bait bear hunt they told me the morning stands and evening are best. I had a big bear working the bait before I got there. I left the woods at 11 for lunch and was back at 2.....He hit it then and never came back the rest of the week. I learned my lesson the second year I went up there and sat full days in the blind. Good luck and have a good taxidermist picked out before you go.
