I think Porky too. I have never seen a beaver eat just the bark. They are very persistent. My father and I did the whole "let's just put a hole in the dam and they will discouraged and move away" thing... time wasted. they just don't give up and since we are remote from our lease it would be built back bigger than ever until we permanently "addressed" the issue. once trapped out the mini excavator made short work of the dam and lodge. They put their 2 dams down stream from our access road that crosses the creek. when the water got over the bumper of my truck I knew we had to do something...and quick. While the dam they have there now may not be in your way...the flooding will kill many of the trees in the area of it and the beavers frequently will construct a chain of dams once the lodge and main dam is well established. I wish I had 1/10th of their ambition......good luck

Thjey want the tops...but typically they focus on the soft wood. Are there many alders, cottonwood or willow around? I have seen them go 200 yeards to get at them once the lodge is established. nothing is safe from those water rats. how big is the lodge?

pistol permit changes
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I Monroe county if was application and then go get a gun when approved. It use to be had to buy the gun and have proof before you could apply. mine is in process right now...gonna piss me off if I have to go back to square one -
and FYI...we were able to get the beavers out in a weekend. during the day they are usually in the hut. if you can identify the exit channel and set a body hold trap in front of the channel.....a little stick poking and hopping up and down on top usually sends them scampering out

I didn't get to listen to the news yesterday but my wife told me this morning there was some change passed on pistol permits...I don't know if she understood it all but said you have to have a pistol approved before you can put it on a permit?????? Anyone hearing anything?....I hope she was really confused

There is a place on Norton Street ---JayVee fish and tackle. they have an indoor range and also run shooting leagues throught the winter. I believe Gander Mountain in Henrietta also has an indoor range but I don't know anything about it. the above comment on gettign the bow fitted to you is CRITICAL. you will never get shootign where you feel comfortable if the bow is not fitted and tuned. you can be doing everything right and have all the skill in the world, but that Prius isn't going to win the Daytona 500. and the best advice I can give is don't get hung up on being able to take long shots. don't move back 1 foot past 10 yards until every shot is inside a tennis ball sized target. Are you shooting fingers or a release? -

I understand you were presenting a compromise...I just don't understand what it was you were trying to say. I understand #2. I just can't figure out what you are trying to put on the table with #1. no disrespect.....it just isn't clear with all the double negatives -

so an able hunter that has not previously taken a bow course but has hunted for over 5 years can't hunt with a corss bow..... -
whether it is active or not you can not disturb the dam or hut. The DEC will not remove it but in some instances a county , town or village will because of a danger to infrastructure such as a road or culvert. The beaver is around our state now like rats and the DEC has no desire to live trap them out and transplant. They will EASILY give you a permit to remove the dam....take the beaver and remove the dam and hut. It is easier if there is justification like a flooding of access into your property of such. The permit is good for the year from Jan to Jan and must be renewed. When I said the permit allows you to take the beaver it will specify how. Mine was any method...shoot....with lights at night....trap out of season...basically just kill them. Your regional DEC office will help you with the permit

To be honest I always have an issue with time requirements like these. There could be folks out there that spend more time hunting in the first year than some do in 5 years. Calendar time is not a good indicator of experience. I think the experience aspect is what you were getting at. I also have seen hunters that have way more time in that 5 that don't know the difference between their butt and their elbow when it comes to hunting. -
I don't even want the details ??? First thing I thought of when I saw this pic was a VW Beetle

Aren't we all Americans?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Caveman's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have read this and have been biting my lip trying not to get into this. The subject question...."Aren't we all Americans?" First off---no we are not. There are drives in this country that are not and they should NEVER be afforded the same benefits of those that are Americans. I hate to sound isolationist but I have no desire to conform what we do, act like, or believe in to that of the rest of the world. To be honest---I am not impressed with anything else around the world. Any social benefits for illegal Aliens---nope Anchor babies---not any more In this country illegally---work camps to pay the bill for you apprehension and deportation. Profiling---You bet ya English is the language of the country----If you don't speak it---learn it---it should be a requirement of citizenship and illegal to post in multiple languages except for the “goodbye” signs at the boarder Now let's talk about what an American really is. I know I sound old and I hate to hear my self talk about ---"remember when"---but here goes Immigrants made this country what it is...how? By bringing the best of what they had here whether it was a skill....a work ethic...whatever. They became Americans...they learned the language....worked hard and contributed to the nation they chose to call home....They were more "American" than many born here today. Now today we are African American----Italian -American------Irish-American...on and on and on. There is also a culture that thrives as leeches on the sweat and hard work of others. It is accepted and actually preferred by the liberals, because that is a large portion of their voting base. They contribute nothing and serve as an anchor around the neck of the best nation on earth. Can I say best nation on earth and be politically correct----I don't give a rats A$$...We are...have been...and if more folks wise up....will continue to be. They are flocking to our shores-----not many headed out of this country----many out there despise us and I whole heartedly believe it is out of jealousy and a fear that if their people are exposed to what we have they will lose any control and influence over them. I believe the extremist Muslims are in this category. Wildcat, I know you are young. When I was young I shared many of the same views you do. The desire to find that common ground and work to fix all the woes of the nation is a fine goal. In reality though it does take two willing parties. I am not affiliated with a party because the conservatives are too liberal for my taste. While it is nice to want to provide for all those that do not "have", it loses track of the fact that it breeds complacency...you create a section of society that serves no purpose and has no value. Sounds harsh I know ...but drive around a city mid day and see the able bodied folks out there hanging out. Should their welfare be mine or your problem if it isn't theirs? I guess I just don't believe in welfare---for the individual ----for the corporation---for anyone. Hard work and dedication made our previous relatives that came here successful...they found a way or they perished. I know you and I are going to differ on this opinion...but here goes...the downfall of this country is rooted in the fall of the family---- the same unit that is under attack by who....the liberals. Remember when there were family units?----if a member of the family failed...faltered....needed help...it came from the family----not through an imposed tax on others to shore them up.....the family. And those same immigrants that built us knew that and practiced that. Now, you had taken exception to the comments on the Gay Marriage issue discussed here. For the record I am against it and view it as an attack on the same family unit I spoke of.,,,but that is just my opinion. When you were asked about sex with animals and pedophiles you rebutted that right away. You did hop over the portion about polygamy. That would be between consenting adults...are you for that? Finally- I look at history and how the US has been around with the same form of Government for 235 years. There aren't many out there in recent history that can boast of a track record like that. The documents that so many want to discount have served us very well and must be maintained and those set on defiling them must be crushed at all cost. I have no desire to conform to the world...let them conform to us...or at the very least---leave us alone...don't like it---there is the door (not directed to anyone in particular Wildcat ...just venting...I did my taxes a week ago) -

Biggest advantage is no juice required....the electric kind...LOL. It makes it great for taking to camp....camping...canoe...ect. if the juice goes out at home...no spoilage....and it does make even sub par cuts very tender. I have eaten it but never done it.....This coming fall it is on my list do try

Me too.....gotta have a little fun

Ike the 165 just because it shoots flatter for me and has all the energy needed to take any game I hunt. I have taken bear with just that set up. Any bullet you use that performs well on deer will effectively take a black bear. If I were in an area where I could commonly run into one over the 500 pound mark I would opt for a little sturdier bullet than I do on deer but ...your deer round in 165 will be fine

My first season was 81 and I think it was 3 on a permit in our area. It was the type that went through the leg tendon. the carrier was the one hunting the permit

I remember those tags in the 80"s....don't remember being able to put a buck on them....of course...never had a need to...LOL

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cellular phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen. MAN: "Hello" WOMAN: "Hi Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?" MAN: "Yes." WOMAN: "I'm at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $2,000. Is it OK if I buy it?" MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much." WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked." MAN: "How much?" WOMAN: "$90,000." MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options." WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing. I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $980,000 for it." MAN: "Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000. They'll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it's what you really want." WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!" MAN: "Bye! I love you, too." The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open. He turns and asks, "Anyone know whose phone this is?"
