  1. the only scope I ever had fail was a tasco...but that was after 10 years of use. I don't think you will go wrong with any of the midranged scopes on the market today but, bubba's advice is right on....go look and get one that you like. I have suggested this before and I stick to it...DO NOT GO CHEAP ON MOUNTS AND RINGS. I believe a lot of the inability to hold a good zero is due to the mounts/ rings.....make sure it is mounted correctly. I like the 2 piece rings and a big fan of the Leupold twist in rings...they lock in like concrete. That said I am NOT a fan of the weaver rings.
  2. I think a lot of the taste complaints I have heard are based on where the bear is taken. They are a case of "you are what you eat". It is actually my daughters favorite meat but every bear I have served her has come from natural settings....mature forests with LOTS of corn around. I hae tasted bear that came from areas where the bear has been in dumps.....those I did not care for the taste of. I really think diet makes a difference. I have always had great luck cooking bear raised....to allow the fat to get away from the meat and ....just like venison....medium rare to medium at the most.
  3. So that is the basis for your opinions....you want it EASY? Kind of takes away the special nature of bagging a great buck ....doesn't it? Where does it stop....if everyone could go out and kill a 120 buck....then a 140...then 160...what next...genetic manipulation to grow bigger racks?
  4. I have never found it a problem to find a bigger buck I would like to kill...finding one I could kill has not always worked out as I wished...lol . Have a great New year Joe.
  5. Hey Ny...I think you and I need to get together and send these two to their time out chairs...lol and I really expected "bub" to be pulled out
  6. Welcome Cwhite. Glad you finally made the plunge to join...lol. Enter at your own risk . Sounds like you had a great season. If you don't mind me asking...where in the northern teir do you hunt? Were the does you took Bow/ML or are you in one of the few doe permit areas up there?
  7. WOW...that looks great. I love balsamic...gonna have to try that one.
  8. LOL...sorry Larry...the topic has never gone away...just spilled into every other thread . I had not seen the public comments and DEC responses befor enad thought it was pretty interesting reading. It is amazing how much the comments sound just like converstions here...either the talking points are very well published....the public is as split as some of our members here or everyone here was at the public meetings...it sounds like the same as our posts
  9. I have been pretty luck too in the snow fall area....the drifting is what killed me this year...ALL of my neighbors snow was on my driveway...over...and over....and over..lol
  10. The state does care. There would not be any restrictions at all if your failed logic was true. Ask the DEC yourself. I'm not going to do research for you. the article and comments directly from DEC states they see no biologic benefit of AR. They also state it IS a social benefit. Doesn't sound to me like they have any desire in the arena of horns....mostly herd health...wich they say we have.....and population control....which they say they are at the level they want..Their words...not mine
  11. I agree that there doesn't seem to be any "proof" that anything is wrong with the current system. I would have to say that just because something can't be proven wrong or not done correctly doensn't seem to be a reason to at least entertain alternatives that MAY improve on a good thing. If it wasn't in our nature to do that ...we would still be driving aroung a model T.. I am never for placing more limits on our sport or the hunters themselves. I have been consistently opposed to the AR theme. I can see a benefit of a segmented season to the hunters as long as it doesn't decrease there available time in the field.
  12. That broken rack on teh littel 8 isn't where your slug went on that fateful day ....was it...
  13. I kind of wish Al Gore was right....still trying to find the down side of palm trees on the Lake Ontario shore
  14. Now those are a couple of 1.5's that I am glad made it to pass on those genes. Can't wait to see their racks next year.
  15. Doc, Would you see a negative to a broken up season that allows a break to the woods and the deer? Not an overall that shortens any season
  16. Right on!!---and it isn't just hunters....they are among us in every aspect of life
  17. Nice Job Wolly. I have a few racks that I have been debating what to do with.....mounting or a reack sculpture. I think this just made up my mind
  18. Thats what I was thinking too Culver, some times we all need a break from the season and this would force us to do that. Maybe the after the season list wouldn't be so long that way... I am sure it would make a difference in the deer patterns as well. It seems like the areas I hunt don't get very much pressure at all during the late ML. The deer are moving better during shooting hours and field activity really picks up with just a week break in the pressure.
  19. i wouldn't have a problem with that either. It, in fact would allow me breaks to get my honey do lists done without waiting until the end of the season...or better yet get a little duck hunting in
  20. so since I do them all I get a whopping 12 days to hunt?
  21. But it is a 2 way street.....i.5's from around go to that property as wel
  22. Back then...probably a very good set of draft horses
  23. On a managed property you may be able to remove al 1.5's but on a WMU or state level you will never harvest all the 1.5's. but say he is able to take them all....eventually...in a closed system the older bucks are gone either by selective harvest...ot natural causes and nothing is there to replace them
  24. Was doing a little recreational reading and came across this. I am not sure if in the 73 pages this was posted before but was pretty good reading. It is on teh DEC site and includes their evaluation of the expansion of AR into the 8 other WMU's and the public comments and the DEC reponses. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/arcomment09.pdf http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/55768.html
  25. Gotta say these guys need an old fashioned ass whoopin. What a bunch of jerks.
