Nope. Broadside. I am stumped...must be the gun...I'll give you $50 for it -
I can't disagree more. I really believe it has nothing to do with them not knowing the safe way to do things. sitting in a class will not fix it. It really has more to do with the culture of being safe and increasing the penalties for being unsafe. We run into the same issue in construction. you can have a tool blx talk about a specific topic and not a few hours later find guys doing just what you told them not to. Fire them and it gets their attention. Start hammering these clowns in the wollds that do stupid crap and that will change the view of hunting safety...My 2 cents So your the new hunting police man. your armed, he's armed and dangerous. You go out and enforced all the rules, and saftey precautions, and confront all these guys. The problem is you will only find them after they shot someone. My method will hopefully stop them from shooting someone; and maybe waking them up a little bit. No silly. I was talking about official action against the clowns. and it is up to us to police the ones WE HUNT WITH. you can not teach the mindset to be safe. I have lived it ...it doesn't work. It is a cultural change that is needed ...that will come from peers that decide to no longer tolerate a guys unsafe actions.

Why they wear Back Tags in Wisconsin
Culvercreek hunt club replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
I grew up wearing one sonce I hunted in the SZ. it never seemed like a big deal to me. The only time it bugged me was when I traded in wearing a fanny pack for my backpack. I started the on the pack....on the coat...on the pack...Finally I said screw it. it goes on my backpack and when I get to my treestand it stays on the pack ad is hanging in the tree. I guess if a ECO has an bad day he could ticket me. -

Anyone brew their own beer or make wine?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
just finished teh second fermenting on the hard cider. It tastes great and the ABV is at 14%. It didn't get quite as high as I thought but the yeast has a hard time at that high of a percentage. Now I just have to round up more bottles to put it in. From what i have read it gets better as it sits...but It will be hard not to drink it before that...lol -

I don't know anything about snipers but do you think they would be using a 100% factory rifle...especially the heavier puoundage and travel trigger settings? -
I know...typo

I remember years ago when I got the New York Sportsman Mag, they always had a center pull out that was a featured area in the state. I saved them and one was Hi Tor. Whis I could remember what I did with that nice binder of the maps. They also had write ups telling what and where in each area. I just checked the for on line archives but found none. I don't know what you have for free time but I bet a library would have them in their files. They were good maps and good write ups

You can probably get a little more info here since it is a topo http://www.trails.com/topomap.aspx?trailid=XFP001-023

Rem 700 investigation
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Fantail's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Yup....don't bang it on $hit...lol. I have never had it slide open on me by mistake. I let a buddy carry it when we were back in the ADK's and he lost 5 of my rounds over the weekend. He is a "shoulder carrier". Must have had it hit brush while walking. To me...I am a "cradle carrier", that branck that opened the bolt could have just as easily hit the safety. My personal opinion but I like my gun in my hands...they are too hard to aim mounted on your back...lol -
a deer can probably east 5 to 6 pounds of food a day....extend that out for a 4 month crop and abuot 50 deer. That is 5 pounds x 50 deer= 250 pounds a day 250 pound per day x 122 days = 30,500 pounds of product. corn might go fo $4.50 a bushel ( I am no where near sure of this) 50 - 60 pounds in a bushel so they get about $.08 per pound for corn 30,500 pounds x .08= $2,440 in crop damage for 50 deer

and we, as hunters need to hold all the guys and gals we hunt with accountable. Call them on anything they do that is not correct...get in someones face.

That deer didn't have a big red "S" on his chest ...did he? ws there any meat or blood on the bullet? -
I saw some fairly fresh ones too that I hadn't seen before. I think the guys suggestions here are good. Try to get between feed and bedding. if there is a hot doe still there she may drag him along. I really think the bigger bucks are more vulnerable in the 2nd rut. fewer hot does and if they want to find one they have to spend more time on their feet. Best bet I think is find the does
-
Sunday night a buddy of mine watch two of the bucks we have been trying for in a cut bean field all by themselves. feeding and then they would take a break and light spare with each other. No does around that he could see. so don't rule out rattling. a bleat might work al well. I can tell you that the 9 I shot on Saturday was hot on 3 does and I think the small 8 that was closer to me was trailing the does on their down wind side because the big guy was with them. I really believe the second rut is still going and might try both tactics this weekend if it is slow.

Shotgun Slugs
Culvercreek hunt club replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Last season a good friend of mine was using his 870 with the copper solids. shot at a doe....thought the shot sounded funny and the deer didn't move...racked the action and shot again. the barrel exploded and ripped the barrel down the side and the second shot exited the barrel just above his hand on the fore end. the first shot had stayed in the barrel. Remington took his gun and the boxes of slugs and after a couple months let him pick any new shotgun from their line. I don't think they ever gave him a determination on what happened. -

Good info. If I look at a new gun that will really be on my AVOID list for features. -

So, the round in the chamber can not be removed unless the safety is put in the off position? -

Having to take the safety off to unload seems like a pretty crappy design. Like I said ...the 4 I have owned didn't work that way -
I am at capacity in my freezer right now. I am going out this weekend and was gonna donate any takes. You got 'em if you want them
