1. I agree, Doc. It is very difficult to even determine who the players are in the energy shell game. Off shore companies. conglomerates formed for a specific project, oil companies..on and on. Many are set up for a specific project and the financial backing is very hard to trace. If McDonalds gives be a bad burger...(I know....all their burgers are bad...but humor me...lol) I can clearly identify a McDonalds and avoid them. If there is an issue such as dedication to the environment or treatment of local businesses during a project, identifing the company to avoid isn't as easy. We have to become less dependent on foreign sorces of energy. Even drilling in the Gulf.....there are still foreign companies drilling and exploring out there...just not us. and as bad as the mess was in the beginning of the year, I still trust US companies much more than foreign concerns. We need to find the correct balance.
2. I think you are missing what he said and to be honest I think you are blinded by you view that crossbows don't belong. Look at the quote. He was making a point it is not called bow season.....it is archery season and since a crossbow is archery epuipment is belongs on the archery season.
3. 1. Enjoy eery hunting day as if it is your last. There were too many season and career ending accident's/injuries this year. We have all seen them hit home on this site and the effects they camn have on families. So safety is what I am refocusing on for next year. 2. Practice in the close you will hunt in. (especially for bow). Cost a buddie of mine a nice buck in his first season of bowhunting. caught a sleeve on a bulky coat he didn't practice in. I usually don't follow this rule but will be in the future
4. 13 does and 2 bucks this morning in a winter wheat field across from my house. all together and pawing the ground like crazy. My cousin shot a doe Wed that he jumped up. Her stomach was totally empty. I think today and tomorrow might very well pan out for deer movement
5. I must suck at judging distance ...lol.. 6" is up to the middle of my calf. I bet it is hard to define on a map during a lake effect even. It can change a lot in just a few miles down the road
6. I don't think you will ever see that here with the scare on CWD and such.
7. I would be curious if any of te companies involved in this endevor had any involvement in the Gas storage well fiascoe that took place down in Avoca NY. The way that group treated the locals when things didn't work out would scare me about giving another group the green light.
8. 13 does and 2 bucks inteh field across from my house in the winter wheat field this morning...DAMN WORK!! They are up!! I will be in that field tomorrow morning.
9. Go right to the reg's. It list all restrictions. Including possession of firearms and their handling.
10. I hope you had tumms handy because if that wan't a recipe for gas nothing was....venison and cabbage...lol
11. I don't know how many you have but I pickle mine. I also do it with calves heart when I can find it
12. That sound you hear in the distance is my arteries hardening...lol. I will have to try that. I love butter milk
13. I saw a couple of bows this fall from a Rochester NY firm that manufacturers them here...The looked very nice and while I didn't shoot one I saw them shot side by side with the Matthews line. just as quiet. fast and was wondering if anyone had one. Elite Archery?? I was looking at the Z7 for next year but I just don't know
14. I have.....red ones and green ones on nicely wrapped boxes
15. I got what you were saying the first time...you took his statement and carried a progression implying that guns would be even better so why not do that too. I got it. It is a stretch...a big one in my opinion. I am not sure if the addition of crossbows would bring any new hunters in. It might not, but if more hunters were involved in a larger portion of the available seasons the hunting presence would be stronger. if it only added 1/2 of one percent to the number of hunters I think it would be worth it. Any addition or cross over would be better than the direction we are headed now. I have said it before and I think it may have been in this thread pages and pages back. Dad and Uncle and a close friend can't pull a bow and I also have a very good friend that can't take the cold and also suffer physical problems that make it so he can't draw a bow. That is 3 cross overs and one re-addition right there. I find it hard to believe that my situation is so unique that no others exist. I clearly remember your position on this but I also see you commenting and showing a genuine concern for our falling numbers. I was simply asking how you reconcile the two in your thoughts.
16. I am not busting your balls but.....can you explain that statement? That really is one I would like to clearly understand before I comment on it
17. Q. How far must I be from a public highway to legally discharge a firearm or bow? A. The law does not specify a distance. You need only be off the maintained portion of any public highway and discharge in a manner that does not result in a shot or arrow passing over any portion of that maintained public highway. Mowed areas of state, county, and town highways, up to fencing and guard rails, and ditch lines are considered maintained portions of public highways and roads. A seasonal public road that is not maintained during winter is still considered a public highway. Page 53
18. and my bowling comment was a response to this and as i said after it was a joke response. Is that the best you got? This comment was the one who said to do somethng oither than hunting? Jump on this one Don't get hot, Bubba. I wasn't in my comment. I only pointed out how, my life in particular doesn't always allow for me to dedicate the amount of time I would like too. But I was also tyring to say that everyone shoudl now their limitations and make responsible decissions. we owe that much to the game we persue. Just not black or white in the quantity of time
19. LOL...wans't trying to put words in your mouth, Geno
20. Great buck! Did he get him on a scale?
21. I believe hGeno is taking exception to this comment and it was the same one I was commenting on, specifically the last sentence.
