Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Doc...you should know that applying logic and trying to have an actual debate with this mind set is not going to happen. the spew opinion as fact and when questioned...they ignore...when confronted with contray experts they dance around it...when asked a direct question the avoid it.....and then lump anyone that favors a choice in their hunting as a brown and down with no respect for the herd.- 1885 replies

How far is too far for you to take a shot?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to HHC1's topic in Bow Hunting
I am comfortable at 30 although every deer I have taken has been 20 or under -
Bubba.....wow that actually made sense. that DEC guy has to be wrong...lol. I would have thought they should view it that way.

I believe it is called a hunters safety course.....I am surprised they didn't make it a requirement before the Bow course was taken.

Would You Shoot this Deer? Why or Why Not?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to NY Trophy Hunter's topic in Bow Hunting
I would ...love non-typicals. might actually develop double mains next year though. i f he walked by my bow stand tonight...nope....would change in a couple weeks when I am losing time on two I am chasing. If he came out in front of me this past Sunday up north...he'd be at the taxidermists -
Weather, Lunar, Calendar, Etc. When do you hunt?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to nybuckboy's topic in Bow Hunting
ME to NY...just find it funny sometimes all the gimmicks. I just enjoy being out there. Sunday was a great day and deer movement was very slow where I was..didi a little still hunting because of the rain and got some fresh air and exercise. who can argue with that -

Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
See that is the sticking point ADK....thes guys want to IMPOSE there preference on others....no one is ever going to convince me this group is any better than the antis out there. the goals are different but the mind set that THEY know best and everyone MUST comply with their will is just crazy. The all suffer from a terminal case of cranial rectumitus. unbelievable. And FYI I have taken some very nice and mature bucks...worked hard for them and the one in the avatar took me 2 seasons to get...northern zone too. I do pass on small bucks...but you know what ...my choice...just like it should be. -

I should have listed it as what fits MOST of your situations

I believe that deer learn based on their senses. if they hear a certain sound, smel a certain smell and something bad happens it will turn on their flight response the next time they sense it. I think the pipe would work...until they have a nose full of it and the deer next to them gets rapped by a slug. same thing with human scent...think of all the fawns you can walk right up to until mom conditions them that it is bad to see/smel /hear. I had 2 little ones in a field I was walking through this past weekend. Stood right there and let me walk to within 50 feet of them. never ran...just trotted around me and stayed in the field. Must be mom didn't make it through muzzle loader season.

Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
Not to be contray but I also hear alot from the AR guys and some I don't agree with. Most points I don't agree with are showing up in your posts too so I will just sahre my views on some of your comments. I personally pass on a lot of bucks depending on the area. SZ I let a lot walk...NZ maybe not...depending on the available time to hunt and how the year has been. -
Just got permission for a new farm!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in General Hunting
WOuld love to do that. I have never just targeted them...always a byproduct of deer hunting. -

I wan's really trying to get clarification on the hypocricy aspect. I wanted an understanding who YOU thought was not representing the sport well -
Friday night I got out of work late and was still able to get a half hour in the stand...more of a scouting exercize for my buddy that was hunting my stand on Saturday. 80 yeards from my stand on the field edge they started a new scrap. I can't see it on my way in.. so how do I know it was there?...there was a freaking parade...6 different bucks in a half hour hit it and proceded intot he field to feed...I wish I had about a another half hour of light because they go bigger as each one came out.

The hypocricy or the fact they choose to shoot yearlings disqualifies them as a steward of the sport or the land? -
Venison Stroganoff.
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
I love trying new things...did you use stew or ground?. A buddy of mine that I got it from also used canned venison to do it. I almost didn't try it---just something about putting soda on meat...lol -
DEC Tagged bears in Allegany County
Culvercreek hunt club replied to ny_deer_hunter's topic in Bow Hunting
I love bear meat. but there is a HUGE difference in taste between garbage bears and a bear on a natural diet. Kind of a "you are what you eat thing. They really should publicize the 60 day thing. This is the first I have heard of that and it would suck to take one and not know it until it was checked in. -
OK...I am calling BS on you bleitten.....That is just pain fiction right there...lol
