  1. Stretch....dont' have anything to base this on other than hear say ....but I heard a big commotion from hunters down there feeling the ones that did test positive may have been escapes from a High Fence operation down there. Would really make sense to me since these trophy farmers do ship deer to purchacers all over the country.
  2. I am with you John....I would put a stand on the other plots.....they are too secluded and do not offer as good of a rifle shot. I do not hunt bow there so our palcement is for a larger view of approach routes
  3. I hope he gets to do it b4 they close the lid on him....It would make his season to be sitting there and tell me to go get it and gut it...lol...never taking the slippers off...of course
  4. Bleit---I wish it wa that simple...lol Pythagorean's theorem doesn't take into consideration gravity. the steeper the angle (up or down) the less effect gravity has on the drop of a projectile. It really does get more minimal the faster the arrow is going, especially at the ranges most of us shoot. That is the science behind the new range finders that compensate for angle for true ballistic distance. Say you are 200 yards away and at a 45 degree down angle to the target. The ballistic range will be less...not sure but maybe 150. so you hold over like you are shooting 150....not the 200 that a normal rangefinder would tell you. and here is the kicker-----up hill is the same as down hill.....you shoot high. Sitting back and waiting...lol
  5. We have a small quarter acre plot of clover about 40 yards from our cabin. We are a mile away from any road and it really is like hunting the big woods. A few oaks and some beech but other than my plots it is a mile down the hill to the nearest Ag crop. The deer have been hitting it a bit but we have yet to see one in there. Taking the trail cams up this weekend. Since we put it in, Dad has this vision of him taking a deer out of it in his slippers with a cup of coffe in his hand from the front porch. Don't think he is no ethical guys....The biggest part of his fantasy is he does it while I am out on the property freezing my butt off....lol
  6. NY---as far as I can tell the only confirmed cases were in Onieda Geno----I put a poll up
  7. Not sure I agree with the taxes view. I have about 4-5 acres in and I don't have 300 bucks into it. I could buy about 3,000 pound of corn for that...lol I have a wheeler anyways and the old farm disc I use (modified) cost me 50 bucks. It really doesnb't cost much...more time than anything
  8. Seems like a hot topic so let's see where we all fit in. Pic the one that best suits the majority of your hunting
  9. Practice with clothing and positon you will use
  10. Soak it in cider...lol. Man I hope it works out for ya! You left handed or right?
  11. If the map is correct Geno....as of march 2010 no confirmed cases on LI
  12. I think in order to answer the poll it is important to have the question (in your own head) answered....is a food plot baiting. That answer really effects teh outcome of the poll. I voted no on baiting because I do not beleive food plots are baiting. If I believed food plots were baiting I would have answered differently.
  13. Areas that have confirmed cases by CDC http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/cwd/
  14. this sure is starting to mirror the Nuge thread.....ethical VS opinion. legal VS ethical. It is another topic without a clear defined answer
  15. WNY....I think they view those activities as natural behavior and know they are not going to change it. I think their position on baiting is the activity introduces more contact that would normally occur and increases the chance of contamination above what occurs naturally. On the CWD....I hope it doesn't travel very far and petters out but if id did get there....I would bet money they would have to change their view on baiting. It would be too risky not to.
  16. Well let us be honest guys....all those yuppie exec types.......they all want to be just like us....real men , not afraid to get our hands dirty and can go out and put a meal on the table....I mean after all that is what is really sexy to the ladies....LMAO :D ;)
  17. My plots are in the middle area of the property we lease and while we have no stands directly over them....I sure the hell hope they walk by my stands on their way there....how is that for honest...lmao
  18. I actually prefer a heavy gun. I think it helps me hold more steady.....bummer to tote though. If the guy is dumping the barrel he probably hase no use for the forearm he has. assuming it is the type of stock you use I would deal it for him to throw it in.
  19. I tried it with new golf clubs.........didn't work there either...lol
  20. Yes I was talking about a second....just because I do know guys that apply for DMP's and have NO intention of filling them. They just don't want others to get them. THey think the herd count is downa and they shouldn't be issued. And let's face it.....probably quite a few like them are probably filling the wife's tags anyway . Just offering a possibility to up the doe count in the context of the conversation about falling hunting numbers and such.
  21. Beautiful Property Doc. You don't see features like that all the time
  22. DOC.......In my opinion that IS an ethical issue
  23. I think some of it can go too far. I really believe that for most deer, they get conditioned to certain smells. A deer that sets up home behind an area that they smell lots of smoke from houses burning wood may be less likely to spook if they smell that on you. walk into an area with cedar scent cover and there are no cedars there and that may spook them. I think no matter the scent blocker or cover we use they will pick you up if the wind is wrong. I say that and I have shot deer that should have winded me but didn't so who knows. What ever works and makes you feel confident I guess. One crazy buddy of mine actuall stopped eating meat a month before bow season. Said it made him smell like a predator. That usually only lasted a few weeks and he couldn't take the smell of bacon, venison and eggs for breakfast...lol
