Happens with every group Doc....doesn't matter what the group is. There are bad apples and it is really up to us to hold them accountable. Sad you can't drive a car while drinking....can't walk the streets publically intoxicated but can wander the woods with a loaded gun with no problem. Don't get me wrong...I have "celebrated" quite a bit at camp after a successful hunt but never drank and then went out. There has to be some law on the books......has to be...we have enough of them

Doc, I have to dis agree with you on this one. Values and morals are opinions.....and all ethics are opinions. All opinions are not ethics, however. Let me take a shot at this. I for one think there is nothing more tastey than tender meat and make it a practice every year to take one fawn....yes...a fawn. We do whole hind quarters on the grill and this year in the smoker. That is legal and in my opinion ethical since I also have no problem slideing into the butcher shop and ordering up some beautiful veal. I guarantee you there are those here that feel this practice is unethical....why ...because their opinion is that it is not right. You may be a Boston fan....I like the Yankees....I beleive they are the best team in baseball and I think your opinion that the Sox are the best is wrong. do I think you are unethical...no ...that doesn't fit. by definition anything that is against the law is unethical because that is the publics general opinion of minimum conduct. Any time we set our own bar at a higher level than the legal minimum we raise our level of ethics...our beleifs...our opinion of what right and wrong is. Poilitcal hot button here but I personally beleive that abortion is unethical because it goes against my beleifs...it is legal but in my opinion the practice is wrong and taking a life. So I do believe that ethics are opinions......and that is my opinion but I don't think you are unethical for not agreeing...lol

Do deer feed on this?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
John, If you have a very wet area and can find any of this on your property and can transplant it there....the deer go absolutely batty over it. It will not last through tthe first frost but they will mow it down stalks and all. and it spreads very well in partial shade http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Plants.Folder/Jewelweed.html Touch-me-nots or jewel weed -
Do you support the small Archery Shops ?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to fasteddie's topic in Bow Hunting
Tried a new shop ...totally sucks and if you aren't buying a bow from him you don't get the time of day. My buddy and I dropped our bows off...tune up and bought some accessories to mount. He told us 2 weeks....my budies was done in 2 but only half the work he needed. mine took 4 and I never got a call from him to say it was done. when I showed up to pick it up and take it somewhere else he studdered and said it was done.....and ran in the back room. I followed him after a few minutes and he was in a mad rush to do what I had asked for. I was buying a new bow next season and they are the local rep for the one I wanted....I will drive out of the area to buy it b4 this guys sees another dime of my money... Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
interesting slides showing how folks see. I had a good friend of mine that could not tell the difference between green and red. I helped him track all his bow shot deer until he gave up the sport. as a side note...made driving with him a hoot at night coming up on red lights -

Things my Mother never told me about hunting
Culvercreek hunt club replied to sweet old bill's topic in Bow Hunting
saw a great idea on a web site the other day. I hate using camo fabric on my stands. When it is tight enough so it doesn't flap it is a ball buster to get into...loose enough for access and it flapps like a flag. The guy picked up an artificial Christmas tree at a garage sale and took the limbs off.....used them on his stands and you can arrange and bend them as needed. I thought it would be a great idea. Could even drill a small hole in teh tree you are mounted to to get the cover right where you want it. Would work great for built in lumber stands too... "Hey honey I think we should get a real tree from now on"....lol...so my artifical can go in the woods with me -
sunday hunting restriction in Western NY
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Deer Hunting
LOL...funny I use to tell my Mother as I skipped mass that I was closer to God out there than in a church.....She put it to our Preist and he agreed with me...lol. She didn't know he hunted too! -
I haven't seen the show but the DVR will be set to pick it up tomorrow morning. I guess I don't have too big of a problem with Ted in that you seem to get FULL ON what he thinks...even if you don't agree with it. He is a little to in your face for my liking but I took this from teh clip and hopefully I can get a better feel after seeing the show. I just hope it isn't like a movie preview where they show you all the good stuff and when you get there the rest sucks...lol I took his clip to mean that there is a hype over ethics. That the term is used so much and applied incorrectly so many times it has lost it's meaning. It is used as a wepon to oppose something the person doesn't like or is trying to change. "It isn't ethical" like a magic word and no one dares to disagree. Kind of like "feeling".... "Don't disagree with me or confront me or you will hurt my feelings". If that is the case I agree with it. Can't wait to see it now.

sunday hunting restriction in Western NY
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Deer Hunting
I think they added 3 sundays to hunting in 96-99 and then opened it for all around 2000....about the time they did the Saturday opener...just can't find any info. seems like a hundred years ago -
I an in need of assistance. I have a disagreement with a co-worker. What year was the last year for the no Sunday gun hunting restriction in Western NY?
-
All they need now is a modified rock salt spreader for the back and they can bait and shoot...load the deer and not even get their boots muddy
-
Ditto...topos and google earth. I have no idea how th oak crop is up there this year but keep you eyes out on the ridge tops for them. Wear comfortable shoes....you are gonna need them. Don't get disappointed up there. enjoy the experience. I commend you for taking on such a challenge. tough enough going into the big woods with a rifle...let alone a new area up there with a bow.....food water cover

NYSDEC National Hunting & Fishing Days
Culvercreek hunt club replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in NY Hunting Calendar / Events
I didn't make it this year and from the sounds of it I didn't miss much. I would think the DEC would want as much participation as possible. to have it in conflict with the gun shows is crazy and the darn vendors ought to just about get space for free or a small fee. Let them set up for free and maybe charge for PRIME spots or something. If I was with the DEC I would want all the exposure I could get and want folks to have the view that they can't live without me. Especially in this time of cost cutting. -
Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
Now that I agree with!!!. I have no idea the make up of the habitat in the WMU3's tat have AR. I would bet though that either the habitat is in poor shape or the hunter density is crazy high. I have hunted in the high peaks, when I had more time (and to be honest in better shape with more motivation...lol) I would go in for 5-6 days...tents and the whole 9 yards. Density was not a problem there but the habitat just didin't support big deer numbers. You were luck if you saw a few deer on that trip. we did take some good bucks but the one that I prized the most was a little 6 pointer my buddy and I tracked for 2 days in a couple inches of snow. When we finally caught up with him my buddy made a great shot. We didn't even go back to camp that night. stayed right out and built a fire and napped under a pine. Those kind of reduced deer numbers are far from what we have here in WNY. the agriculture crops are great and the food plots I see going in really seem to help...especially with the later season varieties. I do think the measure that you mentioned (deer population control and habitat/food) are of utmost importance and they WILL have a benefit to herd health -

Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
SO I can shoot them out the window of my camp...lol ;) . Come on...that does benefit the herd...as does keeping the population in check for the area it inhabits. BUT....and here is the key to the oposition...the AR do nothing of value but put bigger horns on your wall and restrict the ability of hunters to take a buck. My problem is the $$$ driven agenda behind it all and I don't beleive that is what the sport should be. and the attempt to remove opportunities from some hunters. If it takes it away from one hunter I will oppose it...period -
