Property lines and shooting game......
Culvercreek hunt club replied to First-light's topic in General Hunting

I wasn't saying to implement it here...those places that us it have crazy long seasons and multiple buck takes....the get a buck tag and doe tag.....cna't get a second buck until they take so amny doe. Fae it if the limit is a deer a day they just want number down. of course soem of those areas still run them with dogs and use buckshot too.

My first buck with a ML walked throught he hard woods and gave me a broadside and 125. I shot at him from the stand and he bolted. I reloaded (speed loaders) saw him standing at the edge of the meadow and shot again. He whirled and trotted back the way he came and the third shot put him down. I hit him all 3 times...first two shots were low and took out the breast bone and just under the lungs. third was in the boiler room. I didn't like the small in and out hole of the powerbelts and switched after that experience. This happened opening day of shotgun in SZ....buddies I hunted with didn't believe me when I radioed them to come with the 4 wheeler to get he deer. THey didn't think I could reload that fast...thought it wasn't me that shot. I probably wouldn't have been able to get him without a long track if I hadn't practiced all summer with it and knew the gun and my gear inside and out. On the range I practiced fast reloads and it worked.

Gutpile---I shoot the same thing out of my encore. I have a bushnell that you dial up for the range adjustment. only thing I like about the single crosshair of mine is.....it works at any magnification. From what I have read...the Nikon BDC is graduated to maximum magnification only. I have never tracked a deer with the shockwaves either. all of them dropped and the exit hole is massive. I just hope I never hit a hind quarter or loin.

How much is he asking?. I have and encore and the old style breech. As long as you lube ti I have never had a problem spinning it out. Let's face it....you remove it to clean it and hw much extra time are you spending to spin it out. the breech plug is a 7/16" so when I have it on the bench I use a rachet with an extension and is makes very short work of it. I keep my 2 piece wrench in my possibles bag incase I ever have to remove in the field but in 3 years I haven't had to. is it from an encore or the pro hunter? I do want to get the power handle rod though. makes loading much easier. I think the prohunter barrels came with it standard.

I am not for baiting. It puts deer in to close of a proximity to each other. eatign from common containers and swapping saliva promotes the transmition of disease. If it did become legal I still would not do it. There are some in the south that utilize this pracitce*(baiting/supplemental feeding) as part of their QDM approach but I find it alarming that they can do this and preach herd health in the next sentence. To me food plots do provide supplemental feeding and provide a draw of game. But the possibility of fluid transfer is far less in this scenario. On the propert I lease I do not have the ability to put in large food plots. I can not cut down trees so we were left with the only option....which was till and plant the "loading areas" throughout the property that were used during the logging operations. This is the first year they are really established so I don't have a good handle on their drawing ability.....a goood pile of corn or apples sure would work...but again...I don't see it as hunting. I tried it once for bear....took one and left with an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach

Hunting behind fence
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
Well, thank you for proving my point as to what kind of person you are. Please go someplace else and leave this forums to people who are interested in discussing hunting, not slaughterhousing. Done with this topic, I suggest everybody else don't give this guy any more attention. Have to agree with you UpState...if the goal was to benefit these Vet hunters as you allude to......what do you charge them? Do you donate a deer for their heroic service? Or do you stick it to them as you would a Manhattan wannabe hunter? High fence hunts are not for me. -
DOn't count out an earn as you go program either. I know some states you have to earn you buck tag by filling doe tags. I know those states have crazy deer takes though but it is an option that could work. At least some areas of SC the limit is one deer per DAY!!

They must have chased all the Yotes out before they closed in the high fence...lol
-
Lol....should have left the bladder in it until you weighed it....that 200 mark is tough to hit
-
Some live in areas that would not support the doe harvest...heck...there are areas you can't take a doe with the muzzleloader.....but in my area it would probably work

I don't really follow sports Larry but on Sunday I got invited to a suite for the Bills Jets game....crappy weather and I will be behind the glass laughing at all the folks that are cold and wet...lol

Doc... very well said. I would also like to add that is is our responsibility to speak out with our views. Too often the only ones that voice view are the ones that have fairly radical positions. Many time the loudest are seen as the view of the majority and if we don't speak up and let our position be know the TRUE view of the group may never be known.

Perfectly said NY

They are taking soybeans like crazy too...they are $10 a bushel

As long as we are discussing Doc...I just pulled up Websters and go this. a : a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter b : approval, esteem 2 a : belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge b : a generally held view. Now I generally agree with you description of ethics but I dont agree with the "permanently engrained " part. I beleive ethics can change and it is usually over a longer period of time. To stay on hunting topics.....what our Grandfathers felt was ethical we may not. There may even be cases that as we grow and mature what we viewed as ethical hunting may vary or change (1a). On a larger picture....what the hunting community or the gereral public view as ethical can vary as well and this group view would be a generally held view (2b). I think the black bear and cougar hunting with dogs would fall into this category. Public view changed got stronger and with the aid of the activist groups was legally change in different states. There was a shift as to what was acceptable...legal and ethical. In states where it is still permitted it is still unethical to the folks that oppose it but not illegal...that is a much stronger belief that the minimum standards set forth by the law. Laws being the minimum ethical standard accepted by the general population (again 2b). A few years back a couple buddies invited me on a baited black bear hunt in Ontario Canada. I went and really didn't have an opinion about it. I enjoyed myself...took a bear....and based on teh experience formed an opinion I would not go back or take part in that type of hunting again. Ethically I didn't have a problem with it before I went. If I had a dreadful experience and it was so bad I made a moral decission it was just plain wrong...I may have had an ethical shift to oppose that style hunting. I still have the opinion it is not for me (1b) but also and more deeply entrenched beleif the is is not morally correct to do. In my view ethihcs are opinions. more solidly based in values, morals and personal conviction, but opinions the same. And you news that the show wasn't on kinda ticks me off....first thing I did last night when I got home was set the dvr. maybe it is in on-demand.
