Deer scents and cover scents, if you use them, how much?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I read a while back and it may have even been on here.....vanilla makes a good cover scent and is cheaper than buying cover scents for hunting. It said it had the calming effect mentined in this thread because it's smell way similiar to the does milk and put the deer at ease? anyone ever use this? Personally I have used doe urine sparingly during the rut or just after and I am not sure if it does anything...lol I have had bucks walk right by when they should have smelled it and had them walk to me with the wind so they shouldn't have smelled it. I have no idea. I just try to keep my scent down....proper clothing handling, rubber boots and earthy cover scent spray. -
Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?

And you know what Fairgame....those are the best hunts...sharing with your Dad. I know mine are. Now that description right there is an honest account of what AR has done for that area and no numbers or statistics are needed for that. Other areas of the state are far better off than that. I have been lucky and have taken 2 buck over 145 and a half dozed in the 120's. To be honest all those are since I moved out here to this region. the one on my icon was a northern buck though. Kind of spoiled hunting out here. I hae laid eyes on 6 different buck this year that are at least as big as my biggest and 2 dwarf them. I have seen probably 15 that are over 110. I am not a big rack score guy but it is the only way I know to convey the size...lol Form the descriptions I hear of your area it would appear the that food source migh really be lacking and that is a tough nut to crack. Are most of the out of towners folks coming up from the city?- 1885 replies

I have hunted the Daks a lot of years and have gone seasons without seeing bucks....I know they are there. but that has the benefit of vast tracts of land. Almost wish the pressure was higher up there to move them around a bit. Have you had a chance to hunt other areas of NY....central or western?- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Thehunter---To satisfy my curiousity---wht do you think caused this problem down there. I could understand if the folks in the high peaks region of the Daks or even the Catskills to some extent wanted this. From what I can tell from airial views the regions has quite a few crop areas and fairly wide tracts of woods. Theere doesn't look like all that much State land in the region, from what I can tell from the DEC's map. What had caused it? Do you guys have that much hunting pressure down there?- 1885 replies

John...check these out-- http://www.harborfreight.com/material-handling/pneumatic-tires/10-inch-knobby-tire-43612.html Pretty reasonable price and they are rated for 300# each If you didn't want to do any metal on it I bet you could use a 4x4 for the tongue and use the hitch you included. Just have to add the axle rod for these tires. I like my wagons low and wide so when I carry stuff on uneven trails they are less likely to tip over

Actually he is a horn hunter. Or I should say was...dead now

I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800S (spoked wheels) with less than 5,000 miles on it. I bought it new and have maintained it very well. It has never been down and always garage stored. The factory exhaust has been modified and has a nice low tone, not the normal Honda whine. It has Leather Saddle bags, backrest, luggage rack, light bar, high windsheild (off in the pics-I was waxing the bike), tanks bib and chrome cruising pegs. It also comes with a contoured solo rack that changes the whole look of the bike when you take off the rear seat and rest. Rubber has a lot left. $6,500

I know it is all about money----but it was done before even with out it being legal. The doe tags don't bother me too much because it is a fixed number....the bucks are opened ended to the full number of licenses sold. I do know of a guy that got busted for it. he shot a buck in bow.....fine....still hunted to fill his antlerless tag...fine...kicked a tresspasser off and the guy happened to have heard the guy already shot a beauty there. when he kicked the guy off he was dragging another nice buck out.....tresspasser went right out and called DEC...busted.

LMAO----Now that is funny!!

Things my Mother never told me about hunting

LOL@ Cabin...my father is the same way. I always ask him why we just don't move his stands to the clearing to save me the work....He'd have it look like a field if I didn't stop him -
Ny---that last post says it all. That is just the condesending attitude that turns most of the opponents to AR off. I am very glas you walk the earth thinking your crap doesn't stink but it is the other HUNTERS right to choose what they shoot. If you are happy with the limits you set ...great....why the need to push it on them. You "only cares about what is good for them" comment also shows your views......views that your approach is the correct one....for everyone. There are portions of the QDM that I do practice and support but I have yet to see facts and evidence that AR creates health benefits to the herd.
