  1. I had to watch the video again to see what you were speaking of. That is one of my posted signs. It isn't tied to the tree. What you see is orange surveor tape around the tree on top and bottom of the sign to clearly mark that tree. I have MAJOR problems with tresspassers where I am. I am tryign to make it as obvious as possible that it is posted so there are no excuses when i have people arrested.
  2. I wasn't able to put a scope on my muzzleloader due to hunting out of state for Mule Deer (they have restrictions for the "premiative weapon" hunt that only allows open sites or zero power scopes (which are dumb). On my brother-in-laws suggestion (who lives in UT), he recommended an Eotech Holographic Sight (google: Eotech 552 Holographic Sight). It is the best sight I have ever owned. So much so I use it even here in NY where I could put a scope on if needed. Not sure if anyone even knows what I am talkign about, but if you get a chance to check one out, I HIGHLY recommened it. It is a nice balance between open sights and a scope with a much larger field of vision as you can keep both eyes open. It is actually what our military uses on their M16's for tactical purposes. Eotech made an aftermarket product for Bushnell for a while that was a bit cheaper than the military grade one they offer direct. You can still fiind them floating around, although have been discontinued. I have the Bushnell version. My father has the Eotech version. AWESOME sight!!
  3. I'm the same way. I get crap from just about everyone I know with how many bucks I pass up. I am very selective in pulling the trigger (or letting the arrow fly). I enjoy just being out. Like this little guy. I didn't think twice about putting my bow down and grabbing my cell phone out of my pocket.
  4. yeah, crappy cell phone cam unfortuntately.

    Small 8

Sadly, yesterday was my first day out bowhunting for the season! Stupid work schedule. Although, I will say that early season hunting by me is crappy. The deer are completely nocturnal until about end of October anyway. Small 8 Video.MOV I enjoyed watching this small 8 point for 30 minutes though. Could have plugged him at 11 yards.
  6. yup, 3.5. I guess that simply because few bucks live past 3.5. he could be 4.5 or even 5.5 without a noticable difference, but teh probability of that age decreases dramatically in NYS.
  7. The do go right through. The damage are those wires hanging off the point that destroy the intenals. I shoot rabbits with mine. Clean pass through on everyone I have shot. D.O.D (dead on delivery). One rabbit even had its intestines pulled out the other side.
  8. terrific! I love stories like this. That kid is hooked for life now.

    Dogs

He was sorry. It is not intentional and be thanked me for doing so. With that said, this has been going on for 6 years since we built our house!!! In fact, one of their dogs left a nice print in our sidewalk when it was poured. Their small friendly dog craps in our lawn all the time. And lastly, they just got the 3rd one (replaced a dog) and it is large and VERY aggressive (as in, I fear that my children will be seriously hurt if the dogs got out again and my little kids were out playing). I have had no less than 5 conversations with him PRIOR to this incident in the woods. I even told him that other hunters wouldn't be so tolerant seeing a dog chasing a deer and they would get shot. I am literally at my whits end with this situation.
  10. Saying they aren't dangerous is irrisponsible. Do dogs attack people? you betch ya. A coyote is a wild, large dog. They kill deer which are larger and more dangerous than a human (unarmed that is). I would never just assume that a pack of them wouldn't decide to test you out. I am always armed in the woods. I have some trail camera pics of some stinkin large coyotes right by my tree stand. I think about it every time I walk to it in the dark...lol.

    Dogs

My neighbors have 3 dogs that NEVER stop barking. Wake us up before sunrise and bark through the night half the time. They are also ALWAYS getting out of their kenel or off their leash. They drive me mad. So, I am sitting in my stand behind my house (mind you, it is 1/3 of a mile in the woods behind my house, not in my backyard yard) and sure enough, here come those stupid dogs chasing a little 4 point. 2 of them are still hooked together with their leash broken off whatever they were hooked to with the 3rd chasing behind them. I had a perfect broadside shot at about 25 yards on the DOGS, lol. Very tempting. Like a good neighbor (and against better judgment), when they got tangled in the woods on some brush, I got out of my stand and basically ruined my morning of hunting to untangle them and walk them back to my neighbor. What would you do? And if you saw them chasing again what would you do?? I have had ENOUGH of their fricken dogs and i'm affraid my tolerance bar might be just low enough to do something I probably shouldn't next time......
  12. I have the new Bear Anarchy. LOVE IT!!! It is so fast and quiet.
  13. You're crazy (respectfully speaking). Almost ALL the places in the country that do these canned hunts (TX for sure and have seen them in MI as well) feed the crap out of the deer with a high protein antler max formula. They have deer over 300" let alone 200" and they are ALL huge non-typical racks. They don't just grow large basket 8's. They even had a hunting show on the sportsmans channel a few weeks back and they were visiting one of them. The guy had 3 or 4 bucks, all over 250" in the same field in front of hi at the same time. He passed them up due to them being too small for the farm...lol
  14. Would it be a legit entry given the circumstances??
  15. It was legite from the farm. There was zero controversy over it (like this thread on the WI buck). The guy had pictures of it in its fenced in area with the other deer. Had pictures from the last couple years too. It was only 3.5 or 4.5 I believe. It was so big because of the supplimental feeding. I think I am with you Doc. I couldn't mount it and brag about it. It would be a fun conversation piece ot have a euro mount or somethign and put with my hunting stuff.
  16. that might be the quote of the day!
  17. LOL@ come when you whistle. If only! haha
  18. it happens all the time. Especially with all the advanced things out for growing deer. There is an increase in the number of deer farms today over even 10 years ago due to increase demand in urine, hides, meet, antlers, etc. With all the adancements in things like Biologic, etc, people are doing their own food plots and "alternate feeding" sites (A LOT in Texas and Canada). It brings into question where the line is of "WILD" deer and TRULY WILD deer. I think that is one of the major reasons why NY doesn't hold a candle to somewhere like IA or IL for example. It has nothing to do with habitat. NY has fine habitat. it has to do with all the suplimental feeding and deer managment.
  19. I'm not claiming any misdoing on the hunter, as I posted a very similar story here in NY. I have a close friend in WI and there were a whole of things swirling around about how that deer was raised. Again, nobody said that it was tied to a tree and shot. I'm just saying that there are circumstances behind that deer even being that big. THEN having TWO deer in consecutive years over 240" in the same area. COME ON! Common sense. Look at the anters. Nothing screems "special diet" like when you see that mass and that many points.
  20. haha, hell yeah. You forgot about the fact that there was 2 feet of snow you had to walk in too.
  21. Yeah, except you didn't find out a week later that that was a hand raised deer! lol I have had plenty of "calm" encounter as well, with WILD deer!
  22. Thats a chance you take! I'm just telling you my experience. for $10 - $20 you can be buying a baby tree that could take 10-15 years to mature to fruit. You could be buying a grafted tree that has about a 20% success rate. Just be CAREFUL! I am so tired of digging up and planting new trees, that I spent the money and bought good matures trees that wern't grafted. They are SUPER healthy and even though they are still small, I picked almost 50 apples off of them this year (and if you saw the size of them you would realize that is a great yield).
