  1. You are right, the contracts are readily accepted. In all the years of living on LI I never heard of my school district not re-newing a generous contract on time. Of course we all know from Wisconsin what happens when the unions are told to stop robbing the public.
  2. This has nothing to do with the Executive Order mentioned above. Congress is NOT part of an Executive Order.
  3. I would have liked that, I hear they move slower than the fake animal targets. I would use rubber tipped arrows of course. Wouldn't want them to miss class
  4. Here's a little summary: In short this president or any president that may come after him, may suspend the constitution for any emergency. No, a definition of "emergency" is NOT provided in the order. A hurricane, tornado, power failure, stock market crash, his dog pee'd on the rug. They can call an "emergency" anything they like. For those of you who don't find this troubling or understand what is going on I ask you to keep your opinion to yourself and mouth shut. You see I am invoking this "order" here on the forum and taking away your right to free speach. Doesn't sound quite fair, does it? Get the point now??? President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order on March 16 giving the White House absolute control over all the country’s natural resources in case of a natural disaster or during a time of war. In the order, the National Defense Resources Preparedness Order, the President granted to himself the authority to approve the dispensing of all domestic energy, production, transportation, food, and water supplies as he deems necessary to protect national security. Despite the national defense hurdle that ostensibly must be jumped in order for the order to take effect, the text of the document itself does not limit implementation to a time of war. In fact, the specific sections of the order make it clear that the President may take complete command and control of the country’s natural resources in peacetime, as well. In fact, the President may invoke the powers of this order to “meet national defense requirements” in “the full spectrum of emergencies.” The relevant sections read: Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the "Act"). Sec. 102. Policy. The United States must have an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency. The domestic industrial and technological base is the foundation for national defense preparedness. The authorities provided in the Act shall be used to strengthen this base and to ensure it is capable of responding to the national defense needs of the United States. Sec. 103. General Functions. Executive departments and agencies (agencies) responsible for plans and programs relating to national defense (as defined in section 801(j) of this order), or for resources and services needed to support such plans and programs, shall: (a) identify requirements for the full spectrum of emergencies, including essential military and civilian demand; ( assess on an ongoing basis the capability of the domestic industrial and technological base to satisfy requirements in peacetime and times of national emergency, specifically evaluating the availability of the most critical resource and production sources, including subcontractors and suppliers, materials, skilled labor, and professional and technical personnel; The underlying legal authority for the execution of such a radical order is found in the Defense Production Act of 1950, the President claims. That law combined with the rights vested in him as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces supposedly empowers the President to endow himself with these expansive powers. Just how expansive are the claimed powers and what resources are included in their scope? Livestock? Yes. All food “resources” and “resource facilities?” Yes. Veterinary clinics? Yes. All forms of energy? Yes. Will the President control the water supply? Yes. Read on: Sec. 201. Priorities and Allocations Authorities. (a) The authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071, to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads: (1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer; (2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy; (3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources; (4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation; (5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and (6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials. ( The Secretary of each agency delegated authority under subsection (a) of this section (resource departments) shall plan for and issue regulations to prioritize and allocate resources and establish standards and procedures by which the authority shall be used to promote the national defense, under both emergency and non-emergency conditions. Each Secretary shall authorize the heads of other agencies, as appropriate, to place priority ratings on contracts and orders for materials, services, and facilities needed in support of programs approved under section 202 of this order. © Each resource department shall act, as necessary and appropriate, upon requests for special priorities assistance, as defined by section 801(l) of this order, in a time frame consistent with the urgency of the need at hand. In situations where there are competing program requirements for limited resources, the resource department shall consult with the Secretary who made the required determination under section 202 of this order. Such Secretary shall coordinate with and identify for the resource department which program requirements to prioritize on the basis of operational urgency. In situations involving more than one Secretary making such a required determination under section 202 of this order, the Secretaries shall coordinate with and identify for the resource department which program requirements should receive priority on the basis of operational urgency. (d) If agreement cannot be reached between two such Secretaries, then the issue shall be referred to the President through the Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor and the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. (e) The Secretary of each resource department, when necessary, shall make the finding required under section 101( of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071( . This finding shall be submitted for the President's approval through the Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor and the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. Upon such approval, the Secretary of the resource department that made the finding may use the authority of section 101(a) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071(a), to control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market. That’s right. The last line of the quoted material gives the President of the United Staes the power to “control the general distribution of any material (including services) in the civilian market.” This seems to be no less than the nationalization of all food, energy, water, and healthcare pipelines and providers in the country. And to help him keep tabs on all this responsibility, he assigns a cabinet member to each category of control. Presidents have issued similar orders in the name of national defense. For example, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln famously (infamously) suspended habeas corpus and the right to an impartial trial as protected by the Sixth Amendment. Then, during World War I, President Woodrow Wilson, frustrated with Congress’s reluctance to grant him a full panoply of power over natural resources, invoked the powers given him under an executive order to assume absolute and unilateral authority over the same range of resources as are included in President Obama’s latest fiat. As any student of history can testify, when government begins to interfere with the free flow of goods and commodities (especially life-giving resources such as food and water), then it may manipulate the availability of these items, as well as the prices thereof. Typically, such fluctuations result in civil disturbances and a demand for greater security from those unwilling to abide by the new “laws.” And, in exchange for greater security, those clamoring for it are often willing to give up their fundamental freedoms. The White House has issued no statement regarding the purpose for the signing of this Executive Order. There is no accompanying explanation of why this power should be placed before the President at this time — or at any time for that matter. Is it in place to prepare for expansion of the hostilities in the Middle East, or is it something to do with his vaunted algae initiative? Perhaps the President is taking the first few steps necessary to cloak himself in the powers required to "legally" (albeit unconstitutionally) step outside the boundaries of his constitutional authority and ascend to a level of supervision witnessed in all the former republics of history just before their devolution into mobocracy and mayhem.
  5. Sort of makes you wonder who was really behind the protesters, and this wasn't the real goal of those who organzied them. Since the government actually endorsed them.
  6. Hey Pav, you are only partially right about the schhol board. Ours contains 5 members, only 3 need to agree to effect a change that effects 10,000 residents. Then there is the sad reality that the lack of ethics in how our school board is run. Meeting minutes not posted according to law, vote logs not made available to the public unless you you FOIL them. And allies of the union run and put on the board. I missed the deadline this year but I have actually decided to run for my school board next year. Second topic, voting NO. I dis-agree, if the budgets are forced to be reduced due to budget cuts it will eventually leave less money for teachers contracts. It will force the school boards to actually have to negotiate a contract rather than sign the gold lined contract given to them by the unions. Will some teachers get laid off? Possibly if the members don't agree to concessions. Will this hurt the students, NO not at all. Most on this forum where taught in classes with up to 30 students and we had teachers, real teachers who didn't mind the job. I had the same teacher from morning until the end of the day while I was in 1st to 8th grade. Those where teachers and they did it because they loved to teach, not because they made a ton of money.
  7. In regards to the school taxes the unions are the problem. It is the unions that force these contracts upon the public and they are passed without any real honest participation by the taxpayer. True, the whole system of how contracts are negotiated and approved must change, but at least limiting annual caps is a start. Unions have their purpose, but protecting teachers and their 6 figure incomes is not one of them.
  8. PAV, I understand your doubt. I doubted these salaries where possible also. You can verify the teachers salaries yourself. The salaries shown on www. seethroughny.net are base and do not include benefits. I was just as shocked when I saw these numbers. Below are just a couple sample salaries from my school district. I am putting together a complete list but the average salary will be around or over $110K a year. Search these names for the Locust Valley School District and verify at www.seethroughny.net. I believe you when you said you don't make this kinda of pay, but the union has done a job on our school district and will get around to yours too. 2ND Grade Teacher Becker, Tanya $122,034 1ST Grade Teacher Blask, Sherri $125,195 GYM Teacher Collins, Carolyn $128,627 2nd Grade Teacher Herlich, Kimmarie $118,657. GYM Teacher McAndrew, Daniel $140,198. These salaries are typical, NOT the exception. I know what you are thinking, "hey I have to get into that district". In all seriousness I would love to have a fellow hunter educating my kids over the libs we have now, but don't apply too soon. It seems unless you know someone you can't get into the district.
  9. The school system itself lacks any protection or safeguards for the taxpayer. One year our Board of Education President was a teacher and active member of the union. But that didn't stop her from signing a lucrative contract as President for the teachers/school district contract which she and her fellow teachers benefited from. Ethically this is considered a conflict of interest, but since the teachers union ad their members have no ethics it was done anyway.
  10. Gone, you sound like a typical teacher. If you don't like it quit. Sorry but we built these communities and we are not gonna let union teacher scum run us off our property. Plus, who do you think is going to buy our homes when school taxes start equalling mortgage payments. Save the long hour BS. Our LI teachers are contracted to work only 183 days a year and not all those of those are full-time. They are only required to actually teach 5 periods, which is less than 200 minutes a day. I'll save you the time to take your shoes and do the math, that is around 3 hours of work a day. Oh yeh, they have to watch the kids eat lunch and sit in a homeroom. Then they are out by 2:30PM. Anything extra and they get paid by the hour. Average pay in my school district for this part time work is $110K a year. Doesn't matter what you teach. Even our gym teacher makes a $160K a year. The teachers and their union are getting what they deserve.
  11. It is called human nature, we have a good and bad side. The lower the level of civilzation (evolution) the higher the incidence of violence it seems.
  12. Was tired of having the wind tip over my bag and wanted to bring it up to a height closer to actual game so I made this base. Cost less than $10.00 It uses 1/2 pvc and the top bar is NOT glued so it breaks down and I can take the bag off. All other joints are glued. I use a 20" bag and find the arrows don't penetrate as far because the bag has some swing now. The only thing missing is a nylon strap to go from side frame to side frame to prevent the legs from spreading past the point they are now. Of course a hit on the pvc could cause a deflection, so only use this in an area where that won't be a danger.
  13. I think he wife has gotten ahold of his loggin and trying to get him banned. That way he can finish his chores.
  14. That's great, these are the moments that make life special.
  15. The teachers will reap what they sow. Their greed and pathos will come back to bite them in the ass.
  16. Remington core-lokt 150 grain. Light enough to be accurate over longer distances but has enough mass to knock them down.
  17. Dad used to just tie to the roof when he brought it home. Surprisingly no one ever bothered it while it was parked in queens overnight. Don't think that will fly today. On the roof okay, not leaving the deer on it overnight.
  18. When you don't have an intelligent fact based response, mis-direct the debate by insulting your opponent. Barack has taught you well. Read my tag line it fits you perfectly.
  19. Ther gym teacher at out our local high school makes $160,000. a year. I guess getting hit by a stray basketball warrants such high pay. Sounds much more dangerous than a State Troopers job, NOT!!! The teachers are their own worst enemys, their greed will be their undoing.
  20. Hunters are up in arms over an Arizona-based conservation group latest bid to get the federal government to ban lead bullets, which the environmentalists claim contaminates the food chain. The Center for Biological Diversity, which claims 220,000 members, has sent a petition to the Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of nearly 100 groups in 35 states asking the agency to regulate lead right out of ammunition. It's the second time the group has attempted to get the EPA Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/16/hunting-industry-fires-back-at-environmental-groups-effort-to-ban-toxic-lead/#ixzz1pIfNTgnn
  21. Let's end the myth now about test taking. If the school districts are so great on LI then they should welcome the standardized tests. It would be vindication for how well they are teaching. You don't have to teach someone how to take a test. They are taking tests since 1st grade, TAKING A TEST IS NOT SOMETHING NEW!!! Stop the BS. When I was in school the teacher would say put away your books today we are taking a special test. In shock we would ask why, we didn't study or know we had a test today. The reply was simple, "It does not count against or for your grade, just answer the questions to the best of your ability". Much to our surprise the test was actually pretty simple. As we found out later it was a standardized test and simply show our student ranking in the state.
  22. Hey Iceplank, didn't mean to attack you personally. You may be a good teacher earning a fair salary, but here on LI the salaries are out of control. We have Kindergarten teachers making $115K a year and basically every grade after that making the same. I do have to take issue with the standardized issue. Get over it! A standardized test is just that, a stanardized test. It will be given to all students equally in the state and everyone is on teh same on the playing field. If your curriculum is so far off the norm then that is exactly what the test should show. Please save the "we teach life skills". That is NOT your job and you are NOT teaching life skills. Have you ever had to interview todays students? They are clueless idiots who know how to you use the internet for everything but how to conduct themselves on a job interview. I have been talking with numerous teachers over the past years and my comments appear far from stereotypical. Just the opposite, they all seem to quote the union newsletter they get and think they are the most important people in the world. Teaching attracted people truly interested in children and teaching when the salaries were lower. Heck why else did they take the job, it wasn't for the money. Sadly the inverse is true now. Your union has ruined it for the public and as a result will ruin it for teachers, Remember, "you reap what you sow"
  23. You wife should have become a teacher. The starting pay here on LI is $50K and a steep pay rate is contracted.Almost every, I MEAN EVERY teacher in my district makes over $110K a year for part-time work. Not sure what CEO's have to do with teaching Stop comparing the private sector to the public sector, it is apples and oranges. The private sector generates money, that the publicsetor then wastes. No one is forced to buy a product from a private company that pays a CEO, but we are forced to give away our children's future savings to fund your pension.
  24. Yeh typical democrat scum stopping the reform so they can line their pockets.
