How about they just change the forum to "Gun and Hunting Laws" and drop the "Politics Discussions" part of the name. Then add instructions that tell everyone, "Any post dealing with anything political, that is deemed not to be gun or hunting related, will be censored". Then Big Government will control that forum as well. I guess it's too much to expect a man to just not read a post. Hunting and firearms are what folks do for enjoyment, but not as vital as knowing who and what is attacking all of your liberties. It's just that guns and hunting are the easiest to take, and will be the first to go. Anyone doubting that is not paying attention anyway. Take the political posts off the recent topic feed. Seems some guys are angered by them. Then they post insults on them to try to prevent them from clogging up the feed. Maybe that will keep all the insulting posts off the political threads.

Political Threads Feeding to Recent Topics List
Mr VJP replied to phade's topic in General Chit Chat
I never use the recent topics list. I don't even see the need for it. I scan all the forums and click on what I find of interest. Why not just delete the whole "last 5 recent posts" list altogether? That's really all it is, and it changes every 10 minutes anyway. -
There are 22 States challenging the Safe Act in Appellate Court. After a Federal Court deemed it Constitutional, other states can now say it is a threat to the entire country. The decision is being challenged in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2014/05/22_states_now_challenging_the_constitutionality_of_ny_safe_acts_ban_on_semi-auto.html Dan Capen Former Law Dog The problem is simple. No one has anything to fear from law abiding citizens, no matter what they own. They are good law abiding people. Contrary to the hype the media constantly espouses. We need only fear criminals and in some cases the mentally ill. It's already illegal for criminals and the mentally ill to own or posses firearms. How's that been working out so far? How about the possession and use of illegal drugs? You can't legislate behavior, or our prison's would be empty. The surest way to end a homicidal rampage is by putting a bullet or several in the perpetrator. That means having firearms in the hands of the people at the first point of contact. You guessed It, law abiding civilians. Well trained Police Officers rarely hit perpetrators without expending multiple shots. So you would make it even more difficult for civilians by limiting how many rounds they can have? Gun fights are dynamic with lots of movement, it's not like the movies. Stress compounds the problem in a life and death struggle, or police would be still carrying 6 shot revolvers! Oh that's right, sometimes the police encounter multiple perpetrators. Don't tell me the police need greater fire power because they will be more likely to encounter bad guy's that are heavily armed! Who do you think reported the heavily armed bad guy's? You guessed it again civilians at the point of first contact. You are alone, on your own until Law Enforcement can arrive. Ask any Police Officer who's called for back-up how long that seems when bullets are flying. The same firearms the police have don't work any less effectively in the hands of civilians. The police are just civilians we entrust and empower with great responsibility! Don't even get me started about the need for arms to protect against an oppressive or tyrannical government. Oh guess what? Civilians can legally own machine guns (some 200,000 do) and even tanks! Some Federal paperwork and fees need to be done and some areas don't allow it. But in many areas it can be done. Do you know when the last time a legally own machine gun was used in a crime? Never!! How about the most deadly of all TANKS, yep never. Woops! I do you remember that guy in California that went on a rampage on the streets until the tank got stuck. I believe he stole it from a military base. I also believe no one was killed. So much for civilians not being able to be trusted with "weapons of war"! 30 round magazines, please! Back ground checks to buy ammo? Nothing less than compiling a list of gun owners! What about the millions of rounds already owned! Oh! that's right, it would be met with resistance and possibly a revolution! (something about a tyrannical government) It's media and government hype! More people are killed with fists and feet or hammers than with firearms! Where is the out cry to ban hammers! How about automobiles from drunk driving (about 10,000 yearly). Less than 1/2 of 1% of firearms related deaths is committed with AR-15's out of about 11,000 yearly. That is murders , suicides and accident deaths. If you believed the media and our President(both proven liars) you would think 100's of thousands were being killed. Wake up America!

Yeah, never used them. Too expensive. The Lightfield sabots work great and don't damage meat. Price is good too.

An arrest only? I would think a conviction would be required. People get arrested and found not guilty all the time. I know they confiscate on a DV until trial, but if found not guilty, everything should be returned. This guys offense was very old. Seems to me there is going to be a lot of confiscation happening if they're reaching this far to do it.

Doc, I have a question for you. Decades ago, when Albany decided to post a bill to outlaw possession of handguns in NY State by non-residents, making it a FELONY for any law abiding non-resident to bring a handgun into upstate NY to do some target shooting, which was legally owned by him at home, did you get involved in that at the time? If not, how come? Since the law's passage, (it's been on the books for almost 40 years now), did you ever protest the law in all of that time? If not, why not?
-
George Washington that is.

Details coming out say it was a misdemeanor possession charge. Probably pot, and it was 15 years ago. Does the SAFE Act say if you were ever convicted of drug possession, you can not own firearms? If it does, this is a vast leap from Federal NICS Standards. I also find it scary no due process, recourse, or appeal of the confiscation seems to be available to the man.

The Architect of Destruction By Maureen Scott Barack Obama appears to be a tormented man filled with resentment, anger, and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate and maintain power and control over others. Perhaps, because, as a child, he grew up harboring an abiding bitterness toward the U.S. that was instilled in him by his family and mentors…it seems to have never left him. It is not the color of his skin that is a problem in America. Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country. Think: Have we ever heard Obama speak lovingly of the U.S. or its people, with deep appreciation and genuine respect for our history, our customs, our sufferings and our blessings? Has he ever revealed that, like most patriotic Americans, he gets "goose bumps" when a band plays "The Star Spangled Banner," (no. he gets goose bumps when he hears the '''Muslim call to prayer"""(his words)))))or sheds a tear when he hears a beautiful rendition of " America the Beautiful?" Does his heart burst with pride when millions of American flags wave on a National holiday - or someone plays "taps" on a trumpet? Has he ever shared the admiration of the military, as we as lovers of those who keep us free, feel when soldiers march by? It is doubtful because Obama did not grow up sharing our experiences or our values. He did not sit at the knee of a Grandfather or Uncle who showed us his medals and told us about the bravery of his fellow troops as they tramped through foreign lands to keep us free. He didn't have grandparents who told stories of suffering and then coming to America, penniless, and the opportunities they had for building a business and life for their children. Away from this country as a young child, Obama didn't delight in being part of America and its greatness. He wasn't singing our patriotic songs in kindergarten, or standing on the roadside for a holiday parade and eating a hot dog, or lighting sparklers around a campfire on July 4th as fireworks exploded over head, or placing flags on the grave sites of fallen and beloved American heroes. Rather he was separated from all of these experiences and doesn't really understand us and what it means to be an American. He is void of the basic emotions that most feel regarding this country and insensitive to the instinctive pride we have in our national heritage. His opinions were formed by those who either envied us or wanted him to devalue the United States and the traditions and patriotism that unites us. He has never given a speech that is filled with calm, reassuring, complimentary, heartfelt statements about all the people in the U.S. Or one that inspires us to be better and grateful and proud that in a short time our country became a leader, and a protector of many. Quite the contrary, his speeches always degenerate into mocking, ridiculing tirades as he faults our achievements as well as any critics or opposition for the sake of a laugh, or to bolster his ego. He uses his Office to threaten and create fear while demeaning and degrading any American who opposes his policies and actions. A secure leader, who has noble self-esteem and not false confidence, refrains from showing such dread of critics and displaying a cocky, haughty attitude. Mostly, his time seems to be spent causing dissension, unrest, and anxiety among the people of America, rather than uniting us (even though he was presented to us as the "Great Uniter"). He creates chaos for the sake of keeping people separated, envious, aggrieved and ready to argue. Under his leadership Americans have been kept on edge, rather than in a state of comfort and security. He incites people to be aggressive toward, and disrespectful of, those of differing opinions. And through such behavior, Obama has lowered the standards for self-control and mature restraint to the level of street-fighting gangs, when he should be raising the bar for people to strive toward becoming more considerate, tolerant, self-disciplined, self-sustaining, and self-assured. Not a day goes by that he is not attempting to defy our laws, remove our rights, over-ride established procedures, install controversial appointees, enact divisive mandates, and assert a dictatorial form of power. · Never has there been a leader of this great land who used such tactics to harm and hurt the people and this country. · Never have we had a President who spoke with a caustic, evil tongue against the citizenry rather than present himself as a soothing, calming and trustworthy force. · Never, in this country, have we experienced how much stress one man can cause a nation of people - on a daily basis! Obama has promoted the degeneration of peace, civility, and quality of cooperation between us. He thrives on tearing us down, rather than building us up. He is the Architect of the decline of America, and the epitome of a Demagogue. © Maureen Scott

I keep trying to tell people the government is not your friend. Many think it's only the EPA that's a problem here. That agency can't exist without congressional and Presidential approval. It's funding could be stopped and it could be shut down tomorrow. Since that isn't happening, that should tell you the government approves of the EPA. It may step in and stop this one thing, but it allowed the EPA to try to get away with it first, to see if it would create an outcry. If not enough people complain, they will start doing it, even though they have no Constitutional power to do so. When we ignore the Constitution and it's rules, we give away our rights willingly.

Why is it gun owners in NY always want a united front AFTER an enemy of the Constitution and his buddies get the advantage on the legal front? Why can't anyone ever light a fire under them when they need to unite to PREVENT an unconstitutional law from being passed? There has been too much reaction to, and not nearly enough prevention of, unconstitutional gun laws in NY for some time. Seems unless the law directly affects certain gun owners, they couldn't care less about other gun owners. That is not unity. I'm just pointing out an obvious problem here in NY. But I expect now to be insulted and slandered saying I'm trying to demotivate those who now want to get involved and protest. I'm not saying you shouldn't. I'm saying it should have been happening a long time ago. And if you choose to attack me for that, I think it proves my point about unity, perfectly.

Actually, in Israel, it's quite common and considered normal. Soldiers hitch hike home with their AR's and are usually picked up by the first car that comes by. School teachers are armed with semi-auto rifles in their classrooms, and they all know how to use them well, men and women both. Of course, they are all required to serve 2 years in the military too. Americans have been conditioned over the last 4 decades to fear firearms in public. When I was 16 years old (40 years ago) I road my bicycle down main street with a 12 gauge in a gun case slung over my shoulder on my way to hunt ducks down by the river for the evening. Nobody ever freaked out. On the contrary, people were very impressed with a kid being independent enough to do that. Even the cops wished me luck. Those days are gone. Not because guns changed, but because people did.

Editor's Notebook: Giving Away Civil Rights A few weeks back, the news reported that a young man with previous felony convictions was at an all-night drug store in Florida - in the parking lot, more precisely. As the story goes, he asked a stranger if he was interested in buying a gun. The stranger was interested and, as our hero was "producing" the gun, it "accidentally fired." The stranger was shot in the thigh, his femur shattered. The midnight salesman had five prior arrests for Burglary, Aggravated Battery and Domestic Violence. As this was after midnight on a public access parking lot - a strange place for such a transaction - we have a case of violation of the "stupid rules" - going (or remaining at) stupid places, with stupid people and doing stupid things. But no. A response to this from a commenter was this: people who are too stupid to own guns will cause the Natural Rights of Man to be overturned - even if to do so requires a dictatorial and illegitimate regime. The argument was that something needs to be done about the irresponsible - perhaps mandatory training, like Switzerland. My response -- Really? Just as soon as we do something with people too stupid to drive (many licensed drivers) and people too stupid to hold public office, we can address that. No, I was told. "They" are focused on guns. "They" are not discussing the huge death and injury rates due to misuse of motor vehicles. "They" are looking at the right to own a gun. It's our duty to find a way to stop giving them reasons to take them. You know, they might get mad at us. How are you going to fight this? I shouldn't have to say this to someone who's "on our side," but let's break it down. (1) The offender is a prohibited possessor by federal (and doubtless state) statute. He's already a criminal law violator. Hitting his "lack of training" is of dubious import. That he broke the "felon in possession" statue leads me to believe he's not going to be a good student at gun safety class - which, if he were to handle a firearm during the class, he'd be looking at mandatory federal prison time. (2) "They are looking at the right to own a gun." Who is "they" and who gave them the right violate Natural Law? Besides, "they" are looking at disarming you. Feeding them another legislative and bureaucratic victory only serves to make them hungrier. Do you remember the 1934 NFA, the 1968 GCA, 1986 FOPA gun ban, Brady, 1994 Clinton gun ban, NICS and now the "Kagan 4473" law? It's like the "National CCW Reciprocity" attempt, simply a way to get "regulators over rights." "They" are incrementalists. Feeding them yet another increment emboldens them. (3) I realize they're not interested in cutting down major accidental death stats -- motor vehicles -- because that doesn't fit the agenda. (4) As to fighting the war when they come for them, I've been fighting them since 1968. You want something pre-emptive? Support organizations that sue governments for their prohibitionist nonsense. Support pro-rights legislation in your state. Vote out gun-grabbers. The "leaders of the country" do care -- they're elitists who think we're too stupid to stop them. Being useful to the enemy is something that really irks me. I'd like to tell you I just set up the straw man, an argument intentionally designed to be easily destroyed - but this really happened, courtesy of one of the good guys. There are people on our side who really believe that nonsense. It's time we all learned. "We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." Being from NJ originally, I've killed dozens of deer with a 12 gauge using 1 oz slugs. The damage to the meat is a lot less than a magnum high velocity rifle, mainly because the slug moves at a paltry 1200 fps at the muzzle and less than 1000 fps at 50 yards, where the average deer is taken with a 12 gauge. Meat is damaged by hydrostatic shock, which is much greater when the velocity of the given projectile is vastly increased.

Nothing wrong with the .243 within it's limits. But if you need to take a long shot, in the wind, and have enough energy left to drop a big animal, the .243 isn't the best choice.

NJ Gov. Vetos Safe-Act like Law
Mr VJP replied to Dove Huntress's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
That NJ bill wasn't nearly as bad as the SAFE Act. Christie probably is trying to avoid the wrath of the NRA by vetoing the bill, but neither he, nor anyone prior to him, has even mentioned repealing the oppressive semi-auto rifle ban that Gov. Florio signed decades ago. An M1 Carbine isn't even legal in NJ with a 5 round magazine in it! I fear this fate will also befall NY residents, even if Cuomo is thrown out with extreme prejudice. -

Assault Weapon Ban NO WE WILL NOT COMPLY
Mr VJP replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Doc, your ideology is in every post you make. You need to educate yourself on the Constitution and Rule of law. If you don't think it is the most important document this nation has, or that it is the foundation of our liberty, or that it is under attack, you and your so called Conservative friends have no clue what liberty and freedom are all about. BTW, like I have never called the government my enemy, I also have never endorsed "extraction" from the government. What I endorse is regaining control over corrupt, illegal government. You seem to be blinded by your hatred of anyone you decide is not on the same page as you are. You cannot seem to grasp the concept this country is in grave danger unless we get control of this government. You can't see any way to do it other than violent ways, and assume anyone who talks of it must be a violent terrorist. why has the GOP not done anything to restrain the current administration, that has broken numerous laws, as well as violated many of the Constitutions provisions from it's first day in power? We impeached Nixon for one thing, lying to Congress. we impeached Clinton for the same thing. Obama has lied to congress many times. Why has he not been impeached by now? Today's GOP, and many Conservatives have no desire to do anything other than wait their turn at power. That is really sad. That's also why, if Cuomo is thrown out of office, nothing he put into law will be changed. You will never have any impact on regaining control of this government, because you refuse to believe it is out of control. Work within the system all you like. It's been corrupted so much that is what it wants you to do. Unless enough people in this land adopt the mindset that this government is NOT working in it's citizens best interest and we throw out every incumbent that doesn't believe in the Constitution, the Rule of Law, individual freedom and liberty for every citizen, and limited control of every aspect of our lives, nothing is going to get better. You can be certain it is going to get a lot worse! You guys can hate me all you want. I take it as a badge of honor that I'm rattling the cages of the misguided.- 126 replies
