it doesn't take special seasons to motivate the kids to get "into the woods" my cousin for example, she can probably tell you more about deer behavior than most "hunters" you know she has never been hunting in her life, she grew up in Brooklyn. how does she know so much? her father my uncle (who hunts) took her into the woods and taught her everything she knows, never with a gun, never with a bow, not during the hunting season just father and daughter walking thru the woods when they were camping/day trips upstate/ ect... don't look for an Excuse to get your kids into the woods, camping, hiking, climbing they all get kids off the couch
-
wait till the next generation when the present "entitled" generation starts having kids... god bless us all
-
there were 2 fatal injurys last year overall the orange underwear was a joke... lighten up if the only way you can get your kids off the couch is by an (special) early hunting season you have much bigger problems
-
Yet kids are permitted to use crossbows during the youth hunt on Columbus day weekend in NYS
-
only 61% participated last year, this year participation should be higher
-
all bowhunters better be wearing blaze orange underwear
-
Wow you pay your cook $6,000 a month?
-
that you should be able to use a crossbow during rifle/shotgun or MZ seasons
-
FWIW this is a quote from Sweeney "I gave (crossbows) a chance. My concern is that the real agenda of certain people, including the DEC, is to put crossbows in the archery season," he said. "They are a superior weapon. They do not belong in the archery season. Crossbows and bow hunting are not compatible."

XBOW for disabled only those not physically challeged during rifle or muzzloader season However if someone cannot physically use a cross bow should we allow them a rifle?

I think Moose River Plains would be a great place for you to try out, yes deer populations are lower than in the southern tier but if your willing to put in a lot of effort it can pay off big time with a true northern buck Some great features of MSP rec area 50,000 acres (huge property people get lost and die) you drive in and park at a designated campsite, when i went i drove in from the gate for over an hour to our campsite, and that was about 1/2 thru the property you could use the campsite as your (base camp) you can then flashlight your way up the to the mountain tops in the dark and work your way down in the morning (bucks are working there way back up) you could back country camp on the mountain and then head back to your base camp to re-supply you may see moose think about it, it really is some gorgeous country

Anyone know if they changed the regulations for this upcoming season in regards to the Long Island either sex tags? as you may already know on Long Island if you shoot a doe when you report that deer to a check station you are then given and Either Sex Tag, i have heard thru the grapevine that this year they may only replace it with another doe tag. anyone heard the same?
-
Well i also butcher my own deer as well, and it takes just as much work/time to butcher a small deer as it does a large deer.

I will still shoot a nice doe every opportunity i get, they taste much better and i enjoy eating what i harvest, which is why i would never hunt wolves, lions, bobcats ect... as i have no desire to try eating them

Remember when applying face paint the idea is to make high spots seem low and low spots seem higher, you want your face to appear flat, darker on the nose, chin cheeks lighter around eyes ears ect
-
Mesh face mask in early season, fleece when it gets colder, facemasks can cause issues if you shoot with a kisser button I never use a kisser so it's never been an issue

I would consider the trespassing a clues as to how that qdm effort would work out. I have a friend who has a strict 6pt or better rule on his 100 acre property, he is adjacent to a 400 acre lodge who enforces the same rule it works out well for them, trusting several different neighbors to all adhere to the same rules can be difficult
-
big question... what size it the property (combined)

I think there is an argument in regards to lighted sights, but lighted nocks? How is tracking an arrow dismissal for P&Y? I cannot fathom one negative aspect of a lighted nock ot gives and advantage as to post shot placement and can sometimes aid in recovery
-
Didn't P&Y requirements not recognize animals shot with a bow that exceeded 65% let-off?
-
Just out of pure curiosity does any bow range on long island or the greater NY area allow the use of crossbows for practice?
-
NFA-ADK keep working that injury little by little, 2.5 months and it's open season on BIG LI bucks

Its quite the accusation that given hunting is usually not a team effort I would imagine these "bad guys" of the sport are acquaintances of yours? Or do strangers always openly admit how they break the law to you?
