If I were you, I'd report the propane dealer for price gouging!
-
We have a whole house GENERAC generator....best $$ we ever spent. Ours runs on propane, but not on small 20 lb tanks. We have a large (200, I think) tank that will run the generator for several days if necessary. The generator comes on automatically if the power goes out. Thereafter, it can be controlled manually to extend the amount of time you can get out of a tank of gas: run for 2 hours; off for 4, etc.

Would you register all your guns?
Early replied to nybuckboy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Suggestion: Go through all your guns. Some are bound to be (especially if you are over 50...or have bought guns through private sales) of the "no papers" variety. Those....you never register! -

13BVET.....I would challenge Obama on those statements, but for a different reason: He questions the advisability of "military style" firearms being in the hands of common citizens. Yet, he ignores that our law enforcement personnel at all levels are being armed wtih such. I would take him to task for allowing the govt. (police at all levels) forces to possess weapons that he would deny the general populace. It is not Obama that we must fear....It is the para-military police forces across the country that will enforce his misguided laws. You are obviously a descendant of Pavlov's dog.

Ahhh, Bubba....You have no need for snow camo, you can just wear your white hood!!! -
I'm fast approaching 70, and I walk a lot when I hunt deer. So, for me, it light guns all the way. When I shoot them at the range I simply use a Shooter's Friend recoil pad to tame them down.

Guys, get out as soon as possible to see what Sandy did your favorite hunting areas. I was out today and found a bazillion trees and limbs down. Some of my favorite spots suffered a complete change in landscape...a couple to the extent that I won't be able to hunt them this year. Don't be fooled on opening day....Get out and scout NOW!

I like that mashed potato thickener trick....Thanks! One of our favorite stews...a red stew...is made with snowshoe hare. Absolutely delicious!

The keys to making great wild game stew are meat prep. and cooking liquid. To prep your meat: cut into stew-sized chunks and remove all membrane, silver skin and grissle (Note: for silver skin that is hard to remove...just score it in two directions with a razor blade.). For cuts that are not too tender (rabbit hind quarters, turkey thighs, venison shank, etc.), pound well with a meat mallet. Then, shake the meat in seasoned flour and brown (Do this in the same large stew pot or dutch oven that you will finish the stew in) in hot butter to seal in the juices and get the start on a nice roux for your final stew "gravy". Brown the meat in small batches and remove to a heated platter while doing the rest. Once all your meat is browned, you must add liquid to the pot and stir vigorously to remove all the residue from the browning. For your stew liquid, I have found this to be the very best: For every quart of liquid required ("required" means enough to cover/cook both meat and vegetables), mix the following: For a "white" (rabbit, turkey, grouse, etc.) stew, add 4 chicken bullion cubes and one vegetable bullion cube to 3.5 cups of water and .5 cup of white wine. For a "red" stew (venison, moose, etc.), add 4 beef bullion cubes and one vegetable bullion cube to 3.5 cups of water and .5 cup of red wine. Simmer the meat in this liquid 30-45 minutes before adding your vegetables of choice (We like potatoes, carrots, whole pearl onions and mushrooms) and simmering until the veggies are tender (probably anotehr 30-45 minutes). Simmered uncovered for the last several minutes to thicken the liquid. (Flour, corn starch or powdered gravy mix may be used to speed up the thickening.) When serving wild stew to hunting buddies, I serve it in bowls, atop freshly baked biscuits. Use any leftovers (We never have much!) in a meat pie...or serve over hot, cooked brown rice. Good Eats!

I have two Stevens 311's (20 ga.), a Stevens 530 (12 ga.) and two Western Arms (Ithaca: 12 & 16) that while not in anyway expensive guns are real functional work horses in the field.

I don't gut 'n pluck; I skin just enough to remove the breast steaks and the thighs, both of which make delicious eating. The drumsticks are another story: I continue to try to find something good to do with them.

I would not argue with "Steel Sucks!" The non-toxic shot requirement for waterfowl came from "tree huggers" trying to improve the environment. Truth is...except for a few rare instances, the use of lead shot on waterfowl had virtually no negative effect (except for the waterfowl that were killed!) on waterfowl. But, the anti-lead argument played well with environmentalists. And, so.....we are stuck with it.

My grnadson and I are also big fans of Kent Fasteel. We shoot Rem. 870's with IC chokes....add Fasteel to that combo., and you will kill ducks/gese!
-
To kill waterfowl, you must shoot them in the head. Think SWING: butt...belly...beak...BANG!

I like a drink as much as anyone, but I do not think alcohol and hunting mix well. Quickest way to ruin a hunt is to drink too much the night before. Legal or not, I do not think one should drink while hunting...or handling firearms for any reason.

This gun is no longer for sale. It appears that Ruger has discontinued all shotgun production. I will hang onto this one as the price escalates.

It is not uncommon to find used Red Label 12 ga. guns for $900 - $1200. 20 ga. Red Labels generally bring higher prices. $!000 for my gun is a GOOD DEAL!
