  1. Trim venison stew chunks and cut down to bite-size (not too small). Get a good-sized cast iron skillet hot and add a good layer of butter...heat to :almost but not quite" smoking. Add the stew pieces to the hot, hot butter...stir and turn with two wooden spoons until seared all around. Note: You want a good sear...but with pink-red meat centers. Spoon the chunks onto a warm platter...sprinkle lightly with garlic salt...set in front of your guests, already armed with forks and cocktail plates. Get another batch going quickly...the first will go fast.
  2. Between us, my son and I have had S-10's...Colorado's...Silverado's. Never had any serious problems with a chevy truck!
  3. West Chester??....Where is that? I'll be going to the Albany gun show this weekend.

    Movie's

Three all-time favorites: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.....Fried Green Tomatoes...Winter's Bone.
  5. Yes, moose do strip bark off trees to eat, particularly striped maple. The first time I ran across a striper so stripped, I had no idea what I was looking at. Now our moose population has grown sufficiently here in Rensselaer County that such sightings are common.
  6. My deerslayer: Old Winchester 88 in .308
  7. Local guy here reports that he personally witnessed a 675 lb. bear taken in the Newcomb area of the Adirondacks in the '60's. Anyone believe that?
  8. Any idea what these bruins weightd?
  9. Never heard that it is illegal to carry both shot and slugs while hunting. Where did you get that from? I could find no such regulation in the current Guide.
  10. Anyone know the size of the biggest black bear ever taken in NY?...Where?? and When?? Thanks, Early
  11. Wow....sounds delicious! But, venison backstraps for a vegetarian??? Next time you do this...Invite me!
  12. Ham hocks and beans...beats the hell out of most wild game meals....Except for fried venison steak and home fries...!!!!
  13. Thoughts on the .30-06 (or other deer calibre): You know, there are those who suggest that the best approach to hunting varmints is to use your deer rifle...using the same loads you use for deer. This makes a lot of sense: Why not use the varmint season to make myself a better deer killer?? To do this...do not scale down on bullet size...use the same bullet you use for deer. This means no adjustment of scope...nothing...just line 'em up and shoot! Of course this may not work for those wishing to save/sell coyote pelts. In short, use your varmint hunting to improve your deer hunting success. Good Luck, Early
  14. Geno....I must ask: Are you related to Norm Crosby?
  15. All the anecdotal support evidence presented here reminds me of a study I helped conduct while in graduate school. Overweight people were sought out to participate in a trial study of a new weight loss pill. The pills given to the subjects were actually sugar pills. Every subject...100%...lost weight during the trial period...and swore it was because of the pills. Several good chuckles from this thread....keep 'em coming! For the record: steve863 gets it!
  16. Right now I am a retired Grandpa...specializing in hunting & fishing!
  17. Career Health/Physical Educator....Have trained thousands of students for muscle fitness!!!!!
  18. Had the guys in for a venison lunch today. All venison preparations were eaten and enjoyed, but the venison taco dip appetizer took the blue ribbon. Brown a pound of venison hamburger, then simmer with packaged taco seasoning and a half teaspoon liquid smoke as per directions. Then mix the taco burger with equal parts of medium (hot if you like) salsa and taco cheese sauce, also medium. Stir well...nuke to heat it thoroughly, and serve with Scoops corn chips...Delicious!!!!
  19. Protein...Yes. Extra/Excessive protein...NO!
  20. Protein does not build muscle....hard work builds muscle. Exra protein, above and beyond what is needed to support life can be dangerous. At the very least it will over-tax the kidneys! For those who ingest excessive amounts of protein...or ingest any of the common (and dangerous) supplements around today.....Their ego has over-rulled their brain.
  21. For the record, creatine is an unnecessary supplement that is used to build egos, not improve fitness. Most who use creatine...use other "supplements" as well. What is wrong with simply exercising with traditional methods...without the use of unnecessary, abnormal supplements, for the purpose of improving fitness, rather than falsely boosting someone's fragile ego? If you are on the juice...you are on the juice. Do not try to claim otherwise! Unnatural, abnormal muscle bulk is not only ugly...it is unhealthy!
  22. Lots of interesting reading here....mostly misinformation, but interesting nonetheless. Whenever you see someone who has "bulked up" and claims that such is the result of extra protein intake, think, "No it ain't!" Whenever you see ordinary people with extra-ordinarily large muscles, think, "Chemical enhancement!!!" The big boys ain't getting big by ingesting more protein...they are ingesting something else. Getting "big"...or, developing excessively large muscles should never be the goal of a sensible fitness program. So, look at the "Hulk-types" with a jaundiced eye. And, remember: Those who use steroids or other such chemicals designed to add muscle mass...have no balls!
  23. Looking to sell: (1) Remington 11-87 (walnut SP) 12 ga. with two barrels, 26" vent rib, 20" deer barrel w/Rem choke. $600 firm. (2) Winchester Model 70 Carbine Short Action .243, serial #G1695006, with Bushnell Sportview 3x9. $600 firm. (3) Stevens Mod. 94 single barrel (Tenite) .410. $150 firm. Guns are in great shape. If interested...Maybe we could meet at the Saratoga gun show this weekend.
  24. Interesting...Lightweight horse pucky...insteresting, still. Illustrates how a moron thinks. Must ask: Do you actually know any liberals? Have you discussed the situation in America with them? I doubt it. I have one friend who is an avowed Liberal..."Flaming Liberal", in her words. She is nothing like what you describe. If you were down and out...wearing a "I Hate and Shoot Liberals" T-shirt...she would be the first to offer you help. And, arch conservative that you are...you would accept her help...and then shoot her. I will not tell you to wear a foil hat...You obviously already have it on. I feel sorry for guys like you!
