  1. those pictures are unbelievable... so clear!!!
  2. I thought I would try doing my own mount this year and figured I would use the doe I shot during the last week of rifle upstate. I have to say after it is finished, the taxidermy guys definately deserve every cent they charge. I didn't realize how tedious and difficult the fleshing actually was!! I had to do a neck mount because I cut the cape to short. I watched a video on caping a deer after I did it. lol All in all, it's not perfect by any means, but looks pretty good for a first attemt. I will definately try it again next year.
  3. Yep... I have them all over my property. Just removed about a half acre or so for a food plot. The thorns are a nightmare!!!
  4. That sounds like a buddy of mine. He refused to shave his beard till a nice buck stepped in front of his stand. Needless to say, he looked real funny come the end of December!!! lol
  5. Great finds and pictures. I can't even imagine how much work it must be to train your dogs??? Definately worth the hard work!!!
  6. Region 4 as well. I am planting corn and whitetail institutes's winter greens, alfalfa rack, no plow, double cross, and tall tines tubers.
  7. No kidding!!! The eagle actually picked up the deer. Maybe next I can pay him for his services and the eagle can bring the deer to my stands!!! lol
  8. I purchased the attachments (Kolpin's Dirtwork Series) from Cabelas over the winter while they were on sale. You need to buy the 3point hitch first since all attachments hook onto it. I got the tiller attachment and rake. Definately a lot easier than the rototiller!!! I would of had someone come with tractor, however, I don't have that option being that the property is real hilly. It is definately nice to see other people's property. I will post more pictures later in the season.
  9. I have to agree. Last year I rented a rear tine tiller from agway and it's a lot of work, especially if your soil is rocky. If the tines don't grab the soil it will definately drag you. If you can have someone turn the soil over this year, it probably won't be that tough to do on your own next year.

    TICS!

Not sure if this is true for all??? When I go into the woods here on the island I usually come out covered in tics and chigga bites. However, when I'm upstate, I can work all day and be totally fine. Anybody experience the same???
  11. Woofer, You're are correct in saying that the unions and administrators negotiate the contracts, however, the Board of Education approves these contracts. The Board of Education is the group that is elected by the tax payers in the school district, REPRESENTING THE PUBLIC. So to say that the average joe doesn't have a say in our contracts is not correct. Go to your school board meetings, see who's on the board. If you don't like whats going on, vote for new board members or run for a position yourself. But, voting "No" at budget time has no effect on our contracts what-so-ever.
  12. This past weekend I finally made it up to my property in Richmondville. I figured since the weather was so nice I'd get a jump on my food plots. Over the winter I purchased the Kolpin Dirtwork attachments, I can't believe how easy it made the work. Last year I rented a rototiller from agway but it's definately was lot of back breaking work. Here are some of the pics. I also found a shed near the pond. Pretty nice weekend!!!
  13. Woofer, It's getting to the point that anything you say is totally ridiculous!!! A teacher and active union member would never become the Board of Education President. Your talk about teacher salaries is also totally ridiculous!!! If that teacher actually became a member of the board, which I highly doubt, why don't you tell everyone how they get those positions??? The public votes in board of education members!!! I truly have to laugh with outlandish statements!!!!
  14. Isn't this the reason that most people become educators? I love how everyone has agendas!!! Teachers in this forum are scum, unitelligent, and money hungry... except when it's someone they know or are related to them. Then all of a sudden they are becoming teachers because they want to truly make a difference in a student's life. Let me ask you this, when your finance gets a teaching job, is she going to take the outlandish benefits and salary? Or is she going to simply volunteer because she doesn't care about the money? AGENDAS!!!
  15. Icepalnk I wouldn't worry too much about some of the views of people in this particular forum. I have found that most people at this website are good people and care about hunting. However, there are always going to be jealous people no matter where you go. Its been said here many times by many different people that life is what you make of it. Anybody could have followed the same path and received the same benefits that we worked hard for. It's definately easier however, to blame us for their short comings!
  16. Thats unbelievable. Just goes to show you what determination and perserverance can do for someone.
  17. looks good! It always exciting to pick up your mounts after the season. Gives you something to look foward to!!!!
  18. I want to plant corn this year, but I need to clear about an acre of scrub brush and small trees (maybe 2 inches in diameter. I was wondering if anybody knew the best way to go about this. I was planning on renting a bobcat and just scraping the bucket across the field. Is this overkill, could I get away with a brush hog?
  19. Congratulations!!! Enjoy those trips!!!!!
  20. If life is so bad as you make it out to be, maybe you shouldn't own a home. Maybe you are in over your head. You can rent and wouldn't have to pay any school taxes. The CHOICE is yours!!! Many others have showed how most monetary aspects of our lives have increased over the past ten years, not just school taxes. You could always become teacher if we have it so great!!! You chose your career!!! However, its definately easier for people to complain about how good others have it. My father said, "If you want something, WORK for it"!!! I DID!!! Here's the link, once again, that explains who's funds teacher pensions. Like I said, all teachers pay 3% of their yearly salary. When you retire, you collect, as other TEACHERS continue to pay in towards the system. If you don't understand that MATH, maybe you did have a bad teacher???? http://www.nystrs.org/main/library/NYSTRS-Dollar.pdf Here's another link that explains the inequality in school funding that I mentioned already. It explains how poorer schools upstate receive more state funding (which is payed by tax payers) than Long Island schools, which is why school taxes on Long Island continue to increase. http://www.longislandexchange.com/press/2012/02/29/community-to-lobby-for-educational-equity-for-all/
  21. I don't mind the discussion when "Facts" are accurate. The truth of the matter is that teachers are required to pay into their pensions. We pay 3% of our salary yearly. Teacher contributions makes up roughly 90% of our pensions. I provided that link already. All NYS teachers pay for their health care and copays. We also contribute soley to our 403b the equivalent to the private sectors 401k. Doesn't private sector employers match 50 - 50 with employee contributions here??? ***Another interesting piece of information which nobody mentioned*** For every tax dollar that Long Island pays, 50 cents goes Upstate. How is that fair??? Maybe if our tax dollars stayed on Long Island, our property taxes wouldn't be out of control!!!
