I think the beauty of a youth hunt would be that dad (or mom) is 100% dedicated to the kid for the hunt. And not distracted by them missing a day, passing on a deer, regular opening day camp plans with other, or whatever the case may be. If it means that it will get more kids in the woods I'm all for it.

We (wife) had a jeep liberty. Let me tell you what a freaking mess. Ball joint broke, wheel fell off, had to almost sue to get them to fix it under warranty. It was a known defect that they had not issued the recall on. Took 6 weeks to get the car back, 100% covered by the eventual recall that took place. Thank GOD it happened with me driving (I wasnt even driving really, I was backing the car out of a underground garage because I noticed something was wrong to have a tow truck take it in) and not my wife. After that experience I swore off jeeps for a while.

Either way I hope he walks down the block to me in a few months.

Here is a quick update from the DEC as of 7/10/12 John, The October 1 Southern Bow opener is close to being finalized, and we should be issuing a news release on it very soon. The fate of the Youth Hunt is less clear; there is currently a bill, passed by both Houses of the Legislature, awaiting delivery to the Governor, that would effectively block the Youth Hunt from occurring, given the proposed regulation wording. Credit goes to my old man and my brother who did the work. I couldnt get up there as much as I like during the planting season. I think the field with the corn does well because there is a spring about 10-20 yards away, that soil always seemed richer then the field ~150 yards away.

Anyone confirm if the 2012 Deer Hunting Season dates were released by the DEC yet? I see nothing on the website yet. From the proposal it looks like the following: Southern Zone Bow - Oct 1st to Nov 16th Regular - Nov 17th to Dec 9th Muzzle - Dec 10th to Dec 18th Northern Zone Bow - Sept 27th to Oct 19th Early Muzz - Oct 20th to Oct 26th Regular - Oct 27th to Dec 9th Muzzle - Dec 10th to Dec 16th Then there is talk about the youth hunt, which would be before bow for both Zones? Things to do with a 1 year old and wife up near Bethel / Cochecton / Monticello? Besides the lake / river options and just hanging trying to see what else we can do up there. I know its a tough age because she can't do much, but just seeing if anyone has some idea's.
