  1. Some stones cannot be broken up via ultrasound or dissolved through medications. The alternatives is to either try to pass them or undergo surgery to remove them. In any event, I can sympathize with what you are going through. Best of luck and get well soon.
  2. I feel your pain, I once had kidney stones also. I had to change my diet.
  3. The morning of opening day of the gun season in the southern zone two years ago; it rained so hard you would have thought God (excuse the analogy) was an anti hunter. Despite wearing a rain suit which kept the rain from penetrating my clothes, the problem always is you become an atrium and get wet because the suit does not breathe enough despite claims by the manufacturer. I was lucky enough to kill a six pointer in the pouring rain that morning. The drag out was a nightmare. Thankfully, I brought along a complete set of dry clothes to change into which made the long ride home enjoyable.
  4. Unfortunately she is off the market, she fell and broke her hip two hours ago! Unbelievable, as she lives with me and wife, we will have to care for her until she recovers. I can foresee my time afield being reduced, oh well that's the breaks (excuse the pun).
  5. Many years ago I shot a really good buck in Goldens Bridge, Westchester County, I waited about an hour for the deer to expire and then began to follow the blood trail with my cousin and another hunter. To our astonishment, we found the gut pile and in the distance saw two hunters carrying out the deer as fast as their feet would take them.
  6. I used to go to Fishkill Farms to pick apples every year when the kids were young.
  7. I have a single and available mother in law living with me.

  10. I will not discount that AR restrictions may have resulted in more buck sightings by hunters in the AR zones but the cost measured in overall hunter satisfaction is certainly debatable. We can show how many licenses were bought by hunters in the AR areas (residents) but cannot accurately account for the number of nonresident hunters who no longer hunt in the AR areas, who are dissatisfied with the current restrictions, have elected to hunt elsewhere or have given up the sport altogether. I am sure the AR areas have piqued the interest of hunters seeking to have the opportunity to kill a legal antlered deer in the AR areas but the harvest numbers do not indicate this. Given that the majority of the land in the AR areas resides in private concerns, hunter opportunities may be lessened thus accounting for the buck kill statistics. In the "big picture" the number of licensed hunters in NY is decreasing each year, this is inevitable considering many social factors and the increasing age of the hunter population. Hunter population will bottom out to a stable level over the coming years, but the days of large sales of hunting licenses is long gone. The DEC needs to be real carefull in their future approach to methods of deer population control, habitat preservation and maintaining hunter license sales in order to continue a management system which has been set in place which contributes to the needs of the overlall hunting community, not to just to a select group, not necessarily AR proponents.

  12. I used to hunt Cranberry also. Archery was impossible due to all the small game hunters.
  13. Pudding Street, east of the Taconic (parking area), Pudding Street and Waywayanda Court (dirt road to the end), and east of the Taconic Parkway on Peekskill Hollow Road , make a left on Gordon Road. Opening day, the Pudding Street parking area is overcrowded and a waste of time, down off Waywaywanda Court and off of Gordon Road its crowded but not too bad. Hunting is best during the late ML season and after the Thanksgiving weekend. I have been hunting there for years and I always manage to kill a deer or two. PM me and I will give you the skinny on the area.
  14. All I can say is, "This is long overdue". I just hope that the funds are available to implement the program. DEC Releases Strategic Plan for State Forest Management - 09/03/10 Strategic Plan for State Forest Management - comments accepted through 10/29
  15. Sham wows, you say that they don't work? I was falsely lead to believe they did. So much for believing in everything I was told to be true and by people who swore by them. Those advertisers are pretty shrewd! Someone must have made a handsome profit! Oh well, buyer beware.
  16. What amazed me about last years sting operation by the DEC, some of these poachers were multiple offenders!

    Region 8 permits

Perhaps the DEC wants to increase sales of ML permits for gun hunters who do not bow hunt.
  19. There is really not much that can be done to prevent glasses from fogging up other than getting contact lenses. As I too wear bifocals, the trick is to not allow the glasses to get warm and then expose them to colder temperatures.
  20. I have eaten bear meat and must admit you have to be born with an acquired test to appreciate it. As far as dragging one out, you hit the nail on the head. I helped a friend of mine drag one out several years ago and it was an ordeal for two guys pushing fifty years old. No thanks!
