Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
wztirem replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
I just do not get it, Why would anyone not want to wear some form of "blaze orange" in the woods during the open gun season! Its in insane, reckless and irresponsible for one not to take any and all available precautions to insure ones safety in any endeavor. I guees its the superman mentality or it will not happen to me mentality. Seat belts work as do helmets on motorcycles. Such requirements are necessary, it does not take a mental midget to realize this! Besides, seat belts and helmets save lives! -
Is the NRA giving us a con-job ???

I am up to date on the situation between Reid and Schumer. You obviously are not up to date on the NAGR. On the other hand, maybe you are and contributed to that scam artist who considers himself their president! -

I experienced a similar problem, however I purchased my license on line during the first year that DECALS was implemented. I called the DEC directly and explained the situation to them. They were very helpful and issued to me my second permit. On the other hand, the second permit is a lottery selection also. It is quite possible that you were unlucky. Long Island tags are very popular these days. In any event, there is no need to go to the Ridge Check Station, you will be wasting your time. Perhaps, you should ask the agent who sold you your license call the DEC on your cell phone and admit the mistake. Good Luck

Consider the source of the article. The NRA has done more to protect gun rights than the autor of the article. Pass the cartoon around, yeah right, I would rather pass gas! -
Hop season just around the corner By Blake on March 8, 2010 12:17 AM A little hard to believe with snow still covering much of the landscape, but warmer weather is on the way, and along with it, hops! Some "aspiring" hop farmers attended a hop tutorial in Geneva, NY this weekend, according to The Daily Mail: Aspiring hops producers attended a tutorial at the Agroforesty Resource Center on Saturday, receiving instruction on the do's and don'ts of growing the crop. Rick Pederson, a successful producer from the Finger Lakes whose crop was used in 2004 to create the first beer brewed using only New York hops, spoke to more than 10 attendees via teleconference from the New York state Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva.</blockquote> Check out the full article here. I'll be interested to see how my own hop plants do in their second year. Vines go higher! Doc, you have piqued my interest too!

I stand corrected, only 2 processors in Suffolk County were listed on the Venison Donation Website, one in Oakdale and the other in Middle Island. There were no processors in Nassau County listed as participants in the venison donation program. IMHO, we need more processors. The Harry Chapin food bank in Hauppauge, NY would be more than happy to accomodate all venison donations.

Doc, You are wecome. Google "hop farming in NY"for additional links.

If the show was not profitable, Jim Shockey and others of his ilk would be a memory. As long as people view the shows and buy into the advertiser's claims we will continue to be bombarded with advertising propganda. Watch the shows with the audio muted and notice how many times product logos and trademarks are identified. They even have the hearing impaired targeted!

Met my friend at 5am this morning to see if there was a chance that the sea conditions were not as bad as was reported. No chance of getting out, winds gusting to 35mph out of the west with seas 5-12' feet rolling in at Debs Inlet. Too bad the tide was perfect (incoming) and the bass bite was pretty good all week. Hope to get out tomorrow for some fluke action before the season ends on Monday.

Scentlok lawsuit in Field and Stream article
wztirem replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in General Hunting
Doc, In reality, we have no one to blame but ourselves when it comes to believing in the claims put forth by companies such as Scent-Lok. We have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed by the advertisers and their "lackeys" (refer to all the outdoor shows) who promote such products. Such advertising claims feed on many hunters obsession to be successful and at any cost. Its a pity! -

Proposal to extend the time period for harvest reporting

Good point! Perhaps the data may improve. In any event I believe it is not enough, Any responsible hunter will report their kills!!!!! -
I am a Nassau resident who hunts primarily in in Putnam county. I do bow hunt and gun hunt in Suffolk County ;but in recent years, the deer ticks have become intolerable.

I'm glad that I re-read your post . I was going to ask what kind of peroxide ..... Hydrogen peroxide, usually 35% by volume is normally sold. It should be diluted by at least by 50% or more if you should intend to spray it on your clothes. Be reminded that hydrogen peroxide is a strong bleaching agent. I would test the solution first before appling it to ones clothing.

Down on Long Island there is only one processor who participates in the venison donation program and they require that you call first. That's a problem, as the state pays a fixed amount to the processor for butchering a deer while the processor can make more money by butchering a deer (minimum of $70.00) from anyone else. We need more processors down here to participate in the venison donation program.
