How many deer does your family consume per year?

So how will you survive if you do not get any? -
Tomorrow is the opener of nz archery. I do not hunt archery any onger for a couple reasons first I do not have time to practice as I should and I prefer muzzleloaders. However as I sit here this evening, I wish I was going out in the morning. After tomorrow morning I iwll go back to counting the days until muzzleloader 19 days by the way

I am sure we met there then. You had to hear my safety speil and s hoot clay birds I threw out -
I know I have said this enfore but it bears repeating. Last season there were numerous posts of people complaining not seeing deer and the population had been wiped out and the DEC had no clue what they were doing. Too many nuisance permits and poachers not getting caught. Ok so this fall some people do not get permits and suddenly the DEC has no clue what it is doing there are way too many deer and how can they do this. Which side of the coin do you want to call. I guess it depends on whether you see deer or do not get a permit. Change is good as long as it does not affect anyone. We are all armchair quarter backs including myself. I guess we should just make the best of the system we have in place.

I usually volunteer there and do the safety trainingbefore they hunt. I had another obligation this year. Glad to see her got a bird. Next Year I will be there -
I would guess it is way too close to season now to find much of anything. Things are sewed up now. and stay sewed up for years. I have friends in the canastota area who have a few spots to hunt private land. it took them years to get in. Until then, they hunted a lot of state land with good success. I would eb looking there if I were you

I hunted with two guys in 6a who own 70 acres. They were turned down twice for land pwners in 3 years. Two years ago I had 3 points and got turned down and got a permit in the mail. Last year I had 4 points and got a permit. This year I switched to land I own in 6c. I got turned down, but did not use my landowner advantage.

uh oh now you did it. In cold weathe ri wear johnson wool green oants and a green and black or red and black coat. I have seen animals closer in wool than I have in any camo pattern.

you do not get a dmp for every 50 acres, you have to own 50 acres to qualify as a land owner. There is no guarantee of a permit then, but it is supposed to increase yur odds. Wanna see the dmps go up? Stop applying for them. If the DEC sees people are not going to spend the money, they will make the odds better to get your money. . I do not see not getting a permit for 3 or 4 years a horror story, but when you do get one, it is a bonus. I own 250 acres and do no ttake advantage of it as I do not see the need. I would prefer the doe poplation stay up a little in my personal area. One guy got a dmp this year out of 8 hunters, I will use the muzzleloaer to get one and hten hunt a buck. I do not need a free tag to kill another I would st as soon let walk. Hunt harder for the one you can take. However, if they keep reducing dmp's you can kiss qdm goodbye. People will stop buying licenses if they are not going to have a chance to harvest 4 or 5 deer, and the DEC will not let sales go to the wayside. I personally am concerned about the people who NEED 3 or 4 deer to keep from starving to death.

I limit my eating to camp.I have never been a lunch eater, so breakfast in the am out to the stand and dinner after the evening hunt. I iwll take a bottle of water with me. Iwill take my chances with a growling stomach over the scent of food in the woods.

3 weeks from today I am off for a week and going to camp to hunt the early Ml season here in the north. For me, it is my favorite time to hunt. I like the smokepole and use one pretty much exclusively all season. But, there is something about a patched round ball, real goex black powder and a flintlock that makes it all worth while for me. it is my only chance to harvest a nice doe, since dmp are few and far between here. And honestly I like that. Oh well the flame is getting higher in my gut to get going. Now dont get me wrong, as soon as regular season opens, I get out the encore with a scope and shoot bh209 and jacketed bullets. I am a purist to a point. I just like to stay primitive for the special season

I took by far the best buck lasy tear with the 25-06 with 115 grain nosler partitions. The buck was an 8 point 200 pound deer. Entrance and exit through the ribs. The bullet oblitereted the lungs and the deer rand 20 yards tops. I would recommend it whole heartedly with a controlled expansion bullet. It is my go to centerfire when I decide not to use the muzzleloader. Bad parts of the 25 is availability of factory rounds. Not as common or easy to find ad 270 or 30-06. I reload, so I build what I want. Low recoil hard hitting flat shooting and devastating is how I would describe it.

I do not think I could sell myself out like that. I prefer making an honest living. All that tine away from home, pretty girls around. They are not hunters, they are sitters. They sit where they are told, shoot what they are told and say product names when told. Kind of like hunting prostitutes. If they had to actually put in time to scout find a good place set up and do the work, they would not be successful for sure. Canned hunts through and through

I used to hunt with a guy like that. We put on a drive he could explain in great detail how many points color of rack etc. However he could never get a shot off. Well enough harrasment from us and he finally left the group. Comments like well stop counting and start shooting did well. Also he started making many more drives and less watching. Some guys are just so competitive, they need to be able to say they did better even if it is just seeing deer. There is no shame in teling the truth or not seeing monster bucks. I again put some of the blame on the now ever popular hunting shows. Everyone thinks they need to be like the phonies on there. However that being said, I have seen a big 12 point nice rack every day this month. He is grazing in the same field every morning at the same time. But, he is on the calendar my daughter got me for my birthday last year and it is on my office wall. I suspect hi spattern will change in he next 10 days or so and I will not see much of him after that.
