  1. I would tend to think it is the load you are shoooting isnt agreeing with the gun. Did you shoot it through the sites? Try it with the irons and see how it shoots. I would suspect it is the load not the scope. On my H&R sidekick, I have a 4x32 bushnell on it and it has worked flawlessly for 4 years.
  2. if you want by far the cleanest powder, blackhorn 209. I will never shoot anything else again.
  3. oh another way to argue aboout crossbows.
  4. shoot it with the muzzleloader

I want to preface this by saying I am not profiling. Four years ago on opening morning of rifle her in 6a, three gentleman from westchester county had ventured up here to hunt. They shot an amish draft horse that was pregnant. They thought it was a spike horn. They also shot 15 minutes before legal light. The guy who shot had an m1 which holds 8 shots which is illegal unless modified and he had 50 rounds on a bandelero strapped across him to hunt for the day. By the time they paid for the horse, and court fines and fees, that was a 5 grand hunt for them. So a chuckle is ok, but it is reality. OOPS I forgot to add they shoot it on private property they had no permission to be on.
  6. I agree ethics are a personal thing, and no one can infringe them on you, but he did say in his post in my opinion. He is entitled to his opinion. Me personally I have taken one head shot. It was the first deer I ever shot a 6 point running at me. It was pure luck and I hit in directly in the left eye. I guess if I did it today I would say I Bin ladened it. I was aiming for the brisket. The deer dropped in a pile right there about 5 yards from me and eh was tytotting away from a driver. I went over looked at the deer and was very estataic I had gotten it. When the older gentleman I was with came over he said well if your shot was 3 inches further to the left, he would still be running. I was 17and knew it all. Now with the standards I have set for myself now, I would not take a shot at that deer in the same situation. Running deer head on shot. Nope.
  7. during muzzleloading season no you can not. I had a budy get a ticket and a hefty fine for doing so. I tried to tell him, but he thought he was above the law. I am glad he did to have to appear in front of me, cuz we prolly would not be friends
  8. I would try a different sabot/ bullet combo. If they load super hard, they are too tight, which will effect accuracy. Try some different powder loads. Switch to triple 7 and see. I have found that pyrodex is as dorty as black powder. I prefer 777 over pyrodex, but am in love with bh209. Is it scoped? if so check the scope to se if ti is tight, or it may be no good. Just a few suggestions off the top of my head. Did the sabots load easier after swabbing?
  9. never a problem here with my extractors. I prefer it to a ejector since I want the brass to relaod. The whole object of the encore is to make a good shot and not need a quick follow up. I admit it happens, but once you get used to a single shot, it makes you be a better shot. I prefer that to shooting 2 or 3 times with no clue where or why
  10. all I can say is I love my truck
  11. they are not certified hunters when they leave class. And BTW, I have failed more than a few over the years. not safe no certificate simple as that. They are certified in safety, which allows them to purchase a license. Lots of people get a drivers license, but that does not mean they are ready to drive. I do not teach anyone to hunt. There is no time to do so. That has to happen after class. I have taken some out to the woods to get them going that way too. Culver go to the DEC website and there is a link ot download the application. Anothert thing that would help is lower the hunting ages. We are among the highest ages. Get them interested before they get all the other interests that come along now.
  12. I am sure it has been mentioned but if we stood together as hunters and accept the fact we do it differetly rather than join little segmented groups to protect our little niche of hunting, we would be much better off. Way too much in fighting to help the cause at all. Most worry about the decline in numbers, but few do anything about it. I would put out on the table become an instructor in either hunter ed or archery. If people can not get into a class, they can not hunt. In my area which is much less populated, I have certified approx 90 people this year doing classes which includes the class I have going on now. if a person tries unsuccessfully to get in a class for a couple years, they give up. if I can get that many certified in my small area, think how many could be done in a populated area. If we had 100 more instructors state wide who did one class each every year of 30 students the numbers go up. I have helped over the years 5 others to becoem instructors. I am doing my 4th class for the year right now, and my phone melted from the calls. I took in 30, turned down probably 50 more. Step up and do, come on it isnt that involved. Taking people out is a great thing. But if they can not get certified, they still cant goand be counted. I know I know time constraints it isnt for me etc. How will you know if you do not give it a try. In the 26 years or so I have been an instructor, I would dare say I have certified over 1000 people. Who is next?
  13. My pistol is 308, which is a bear in a handgun. I hunt deer mostly with the ml set up. I would buy one again in a second
  14. It is a personal choice, which ethics are anyway. I personally would not shoot the bird on the ground. When we do hunt them, we have a dog, so that makes my choice different. I have hunted them without a dog and it is an entirely different game then. If I were my own dog, and worked that hard to find and gert a bird, I would probably take the shot, even if it was a wild bird or released bird. Again it is a personal choice.
  15. I own 3 encores oe rifle in 25-06 one in muzzleloader and a 308 pistol. None of them are pro huters, they are basics. All three shoot great and I would recommend to anyone. Customer service ia great. That beig said they can be finnicky, but once you get the right load, they are golden.
  16. I have two a new suzuki king quad 750 and a 1988 honda fourtrax 300 2wd. I like the old beast better but when I plow this winter, I will like the new one. No pics at this time.
  17. I loaded the speed loaders and put them in my possible bag along with knife and other necessities. After all there is only 13 days left.

I carry the same Kabar as Ed. I also have a case xx that my Dad got me when I was a junior in high school and I still carry it just because it is my good luck piece.
  19. Nice deer Tom. I will be over for dinner tomorrow lol. Congrats
  20. why because it costs 21 bucks to get a ml privelege is why.
  21. with a traditioal muzzleloader such as I have a flintlock, it is a real challenge. patched rounds balls and real black powder. Try it sometime and you will answer your own questions. Here in my area in the north we get a week before regular season, and a week after regular season. As a primitive aseaso, it was better. Now as mentioned, the new inlines are single shot rifles that load through the muzzle. I use an inline (encore) during regular season, and I live in rifle territory. But during special seasons, it is the flintlock.
