When I used to hunt state land, I would plan to go into the woods around 9 am and sit till mid day. I would see more deer as people left the woods and the deer knew it. ten to noon was best for me. I think the deer pattern people more and beome less shy during those hours. Plus they naturally feed three times a day. I shot soem decent deer, but nothing I would call a monster. But I saw a ton of deer.

Every time I shoot, or at least a wipe down whenever they are handled. I even wipe down the inert guns we have for hunter ed after a class.

we have a local population here that did I guess escape from a local hunting ranch. The other funny part is they have migrated to a farm that they do not allow hunting. Due to the way they have tore up the farm, they are begging people to come in and get the hogs gone. They are staying around there to eat the animals not allowed to be hunted there. A local ECO is trying to organize a couple hunts to help with dogs,or over bait. He says anything goes. However I question baiting then getting a ticket for baiting deer. I have been invited to one of the hunts, and I think I may participate just for the experience.

70 holy crap enjoy the party and your birthday you disrespectful old man lol

I would more likly think that the reason it comes up is the stories about bullets going through children's rooms etc. I am totally against it, but I also do not think the bow should be lowered either. Come on 150 feet. I do not need anyone 50 yards from my house setting up to hunt. Here is the kicker to the whole thing. It also says unless you have permission. I would think if you had camps of hunters that close on 5 acre plots, they would be happy to give each other permission, or no one would hunt. I already emailed my state reps as well as spoke personally to my state senator yesterday at the local parade. She is someone I have known personally pretty much all of my life, and she is a friend to the sportsman as her whole family hunt. She assures me that the bill will not pass as it does not have the support. However, it still needs to be fought and fought hard.

well just because you got a deal which 100 bucks sure is, the package was worth at least twice that much, which in my books raises the value of what you can put in a scope. My generic advice has always been get the best scope you can afford. Nikon pro staff is a great scope for around 125 bucks. Or a redfield revolution (which is now made by leupold) I do not think you can go wrong with a good bushnell either. I look at it as I can buy a low end scope now and buy another in a couple years or just buy a good one the first time. The amount of magnification is a personal choice. I have 3x9x40, but honestly it is rarely over 4 power.

new to forum desperate for landowner permission!

disrespeced me is such a commn phrase now. If someone says something you didnt like, they disrespected you. I saw the disrespect in the reply to Ed, not is his comments. But again you are not average, which tells me you think you are some superior hunter, or person in general. All I can say is I doubt you will ever find private land to hunt with those credentials. I pity the guys on state land who does not do it the way you think it should be done, or get within 250 yards of you and "disrespect your hunting area." GOOD LUCK -
I had a black diamind. A very solid gun. My only kick back was the tear down every time to be cleaned. If you shoot a lot, it can be time consuming. I guess I have been spoiled by break opens. But I do not think you will go wrong as long as the bore is in good shape.

I have to have 3 or 4 preference points to have a chance at a dmp in my area. That means donating my 10 bucks every year for 3 or 4 to get a dmp. This year 6a went to landowner of disabled veterans only.

I can see why you got doors slammed in your face with that tude geesh -
IMHO, the less they get used, the bigger chance they will be added to archery season. They will ned to do something to get the interest up and sell more archery priveleges. Money makes the govt go round
-
Just curious. Has anyone purchased a crossbow? Are you shooting it and how do you like it? I personally do not plan to get one until they are legal in archery season. I was just looking for some range reports etc.

actually we in the north do not have to wear it is just the opposite, and it shows on the site. I do not see the nz guys complaining about tresspassers illegal crap and acting all geedy. It is so you can pick out all the illegal guys and identify them. I wonder how many tags get read with the aid of a scope. Makes me glad mine is in my pack. I think if I were close enough to read that little number, I could just about shake the hand of the guy wearing it.

Has hunting negatively affected your life at all?
bubba replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
You know the marrieage is on the way out from hunting when this happens. When we first got together, it was "YOU are going hunting again." Then after a few years it was "You are back already." Made me decide there will be no more Mrs bubba's. Since I made that decision, I bought hunting land have a decent camp and enjoy myself. Dam I just turned this into a positive way hunting has affected me. -
where do you do your class I am in Suffolk and they don't have any book for my class they told me to us the Internet this is the first year that I could not get them I did 3 class all ready and have 3 more to go and still can not get them papabear my class is in sty lawrence county. here is my copy
-
weird. I got a regulation guide with my license as well as 30 for my class that starts tomorrow
-
that is why we get a regulations guide every year. But I guess some people need ot have their hands held through the process. And I have been paying attention.
-
Yeah I can see a sigh deterring a person who plans to use the stuff illegally . How about the retialer having to collect nam and address of the buyer from a valid drivers license. Then the dec could follow up with who bought it and see what they plan to do or did with it. Go buy 5 pounds of black powder at once and see how quick they come to see what you plan to do with it.

when my ex sister in law started hunting, my wife decided she may go try it. Since I am an instructor, she had taken the course long before. My tow daughers have also, but nevr hunter. Fortunately she decided to sit with the sister in law and never brought a gun, as she just wanted to be out there. They yacked all the time they were in the stand. I sat back in the edge of a swamp and it was great the deer would pop out look toward where the noise was coming from and paid no attention to me. Bang flop with the muzzleloader. She decided home by the stove was a better place as it is so cold out there. Bear in mind this was mid October during early ml season and prolly 50s out. It does have some advantages. Now she is in Tennessee and I have no one to gripe at me when I go. Ahhh Life is grand.

yeah but they could stop them
