There is plenty of food still around acorns beechnuts etc. Besides the past week or two food has not been a priority to them.

It is one thing to not know someone is beyond you in camo. it is another to shoot a deer lying down on a cart with guys pulling it. two entirely different scenarios. And a woman walking a dog regardless of the color of the dog is never going to look like a deer, except to a trigger happy fool who wants to be the first to shoot someone oops I mean something.

If you go by the election turnout, it was pretty much gone before the elections. But they held back the big things that will upset people like the ammo background checks and renewing pistol permits.

In a sense yes you are. You want everyone to be just like you because that is the only way to be. And of everyone was just like you, then it would be easier. And because you choose not to use things that would make it easier, it is just that a choice. Plus you do make it easier for yourself when you bend the rules a bit to suit yourself.

The problem is the media is also a big factor is making hunters look bad. I remember a few years ago there was an incident in cny. a guy was trying to hunt and there was another guy following him around banging two pots together. This was before hunter harassment laws. well the hunter guy got fed up and popped the fool in the mouth. of course it was recorded. guess which part of the film got on the news. Yup the hunter popping the other guy. They publish the poor deer hanging in the tree letters until people stop hanging deer in trees. They also publish every incident which is news. But did you ever see them publish about how many safe hunters there are? Oh hell no. Rather than keep changing our standards to conform to the antis we should just once stand up for what we believe in. As long as we let them dictate what we do, sooner or later they will dictate us out of the sport. We can all have our opinions of how other hunters should be, and that is fine. But it is tough to sit on the high horse and say how others should be when we admittedly break the stupid rules for our own benefit. One gets a ticket, and it ends up in the paper. Practice what we preach and do it right. Regardless of how I hunt or anyone else , we are all in the sport. If we do not stick together, we will lose it.

How did any deer ever get killed before modern technology took over the sport? Apparently you need scent killing bags for your camo clothes that you cover with orange, a gps and at least a 300 win mag to kill a deer. I guess the deer morphed since the good old days. Bigger better faster hunter conditioning. I am willing to bet that in the good ol days just as many deer got shot as there is now. People can be easily talked into anything by the wonders of television. I wonder what the next gimmick will be that everyone will need. I would think you would appreciate all these guys and gals who do not hunt like you do. Hell they never kill a deer, so there are more for you.

It is not just pistols in the home, it is all guns. get off the pistol part long guns are included also. Plus now if a family member dies, the family has to hire an attorney to make alog of the guns and turn it over to the state. The state then decides which the family can keep and which the state takes (confiscates) all guns in the home have to be logged.

The lowest total voter turnout in a governor election since 1930. Seems to me scope did not get the word out enough. 500,000 between the city dweller and someone who wanted to stand up. That was an easy number to overcome if people got out to vote, which was scopes message.

In my area, I am very happy My county legislature went from a 9-6 dem control to a 10-5 republican control. we also sent a republican to washington and sent a safe act yes voting cuomo loving assemblywoman packing. I am very happy with our local results. However all I am saying is up here in the North we saw no one from scope, nysrpa or the nra and we seemed to get it done locally by getting the word out ourselves. Law My glass is 3/4 full. and in a lot of local areas it was the same. Just saying do not give a lot of credit where it is not due. Your 25 dollar membership meant very litle to them or the election.

it has been a saturday opener in the northern zone forever. We seem to make it work. I take Friday off and go to camp in the morning. we all hang out then and eat venison that night and we go hunt saturday morning. Pretty simple. With all I read on here every year about all the horrible hunters and all, I would wait until the second weekend anyway if I had to hunt like that.

Maybe where you live, but not all that wear orange and look for orange are average. I look for a deer and see a deer and identify it as a deer I want to shoot,then I decide if I want to shoot. I do not not look for orange and say I can not shoot that guy. And where I live that is the way it is. But we also do not name our deer and pretend we are on tv like the cool guys.

He usually does miss the point. his need to be right covers that up. i am glad I live where hunters are not hated, but it is a deep rooted tradition.

THE SECRET SO CALLED "AMMO DATABASE" THAT WAS BORN OUT OF NY SAFE IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ASPECT OF NY SAFE. From a whistleblower in the IT Dept in Albany. The public has no idea how invasive this application is going to be, I work for NYS ITS but am not involved directly in the project, this is all "watercooler talk". Most of the details on the application are already public information (the safe act) which tells the story well enough on how its going to work. When I tell you that you will NEVER want to buy ammo in new york again I am not kidding. I highly suggest you all read up on S 400.02 & 400.03 here http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld&bn=S02230... Keep in mind what they list in the safe act is probably NOT the only information they are seeking out; you can be sure other personal avenues will be tied into the application based on how loosely the safe act was written. Now granted the same lurking eyes who will be running this already have access to this personal information (criminal record, warrants, mental health checks and record, etc), this is just going to be a convenient way to display a lot of all that information it in one central location. Again I am not breaking laws blowing a whistle, I am simply extending logic and common sense based on the parties involved who will be running this application and what is written in the safe act. Sections to take note of: 400.02 Line 19-23 (application can be used to revoke pistol permits and subsequently seize all firearms in the home) Line 23-25 (if you have a pending permit application, they can look this up, see you have 10,000 rounds of ammo already purchased and use their discretion to say you have too much ammo in their eyes and if we give you this permit and gun you could go nuts with it all; denied application. See the section on pistol permits and mental health in the safe act for more information on how wide the doors are made in regards to discretion now) Line 28-33 (this can be used to deny or revoke applicants then seize any and all arms in the home. As in, you apply for a permit now, somehow get denied, the have the ability to now come and take all your long guns which they know you clearly have since they see you have purchase history as you keep buying ammo for them. So in other words, the big buyers of ammo will undoubtedly be flagged, when a permit application comes up they might use their discretion to deny it then come confiscate. Or if you already have a permit, they will see the flag and start extending a search on your records to dig up something to revoke the permit and come confiscate everything.) 400.03 Line 49-56 & line 1 and 2 from the next page (Date, time, name, age, occupation(how they are getting this I have no idea), residence, the caliber, quantity, manufacture, serial number, or other identification marks such as microstamped casings {which can track a shooting events evidence right to the purchaser} all that will be recorded at the time of purchase. Line 15-21 (must contact and provide ie. Submit for record, the NYS Database. This affirms the above that all the revealing information on the purchase is to be submitted and recorded. Line 22, 23 & 33, 32 (all transactions are logged with a unique identifier) Line 39-40 (Your purchase will be recorded and will be accessible by NYSP at any time, for one year. I have doubts they will actually time out and not be retained longer) Line 46, 47 (NYSP can share this information with local police and sheriffs) Line 47-50 (just because they know you bought a ton of ammo they cant use this to say you may have committed a crime, BUT if they have other information tending to prove you have/could have committed a crime this information WILL be used against you.) Line 53-56, line 7-13 (Even if the system is down they can use NICS to OK the sale, but they still have to record the transaction and provide them to the NYSP in paper form. So there you have it. Thats the cliffs notes to all this BS. I am sorry for the local businesses who will no longer be selling me any ammunition. I for one vow to never buy a single round ever again within the borders of NYS once this system is put into place. I hope you reading this do the same. They will never make it illegal to travel with your own personal property, so I will gladly send my money out of state to make my purchases. Get the word out so people arent blindsided by this when its put in place, and prove to the government attempting to control something they never will be able to do, that this is yet again another worthless initiative. I explained why it trains people to look for orange and if not it is shootable. I said it quite clearly and your first statement said that is exactly what you thought about it. The fact that most people who get shot are not wearing orange is only part of the problem. The other part is people get trained to look for orange. if no orange it is ok to pull the gun up. That is not as safe. I hunt with a group of about 10 guys give or take on a weekend. not one of us has ever worn orange and not one of us has ever had a gun pointed at us because we were not. People need to identify their target not eliminate a person because there is orange.
