why is it ok for people to hunt rabbits with a dog but not bear.....same concept, different animal, no?
-
when you think about it, the 500' rule is not too safe when it comes to discharging a firearm in the wrong direction, but it seems to have worked so far.

Connecticut set for possible confiscation

the way the economy is, most can't even afford to replace regular squad cars on yearly basis. -
and ask anyone who has hunted bear or any other animal for that matter with hounds and they'll tell you how easy it is.............only problem is you need access to a lot of land to do it effectively.

Do they realize the amount of manpower it would take to try and figure out who owns guns that need to be registered? to try and track down guns that were bought years ago (other than handguns) that aren't even owned by the original buyer is laughable, I don't know what the record keeping is like in CT, but in NY after the gun is sold from the shop to the original buyer there is no way to know who currently has it if it was sold privately......it's almost mind boggling for them to think they can do this effectively. -
I too would think spring bear hunting would be a great addition, I'm all for it.

I can't imagine any Judge issuing a search warrant that may be based only on information that a gun was purchased by someone 5 years ago and nothing else.........could you imagine the lawsuits that would follow after a few search warrants were executed and the intended target says "oh that gun? I sold it 3 years ago." -

do you anticipate the average gun owner who didn't want to register his gun, or forgot to, or maybe wasn't aware, to really take it to that level and engage the Police in a shootout? -
using hounds to track bear in NY is not a free for all, it has regulations and it requires licensing. http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25006.html oh, and I would love to hunt bear with hounds and would also hunt them over bait if it were to ever become legal.

Cuomo back pedaling with what he said

just like anything else, the vast majority of New Yorkers won't even be fazed by what he said....... -
http://countrygunsmith.com/ I have no personal experience with this guy, but he was recommended to me at one point. Good gunsmiths are hard to find.

Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY
jjb4900 replied to Tinlodge's topic in CrossBow Hunting
yeah, I know a lot of gun owners, and to be quite honest I really haven't heard too many of them getting too worked up over the Safe Act, and if they do mention anything about it, it's just to complain about the inability to order ammo through the mail..... -
maybe if one more person explains how it works the point will get across......

If it wasn't for the Safe Act.........
jjb4900 replied to jjb4900's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
but, Safe Act aside, is he any worse or any better than any other Governor we have had..............what I'm trying to get at, is has he done more or less good for the average joe to get reelected?.....I'm gonna say he will get reelected by a landslide. -
I can say this about Ruger, I messed up my LCP royally, total screw up on my part.....they replaced everything other than the frame free of charge, even payed for return shipping. As far as I'm concerned they are a 1st class operation....and the turn around time was less than a week.

I was afraid to open this thread...very misleading.

hey, at least you're not hammerless yet.

just be careful who you expose your hammer to........

truer words have never been spoken........well maybe, but you're in the running. -
you said it's not for concealed carry, so I would got for one with a hammer.......if it was for concealed carry, I would always go for one that you could pull out as fast as possible and that would be hammerless.

Preference Points for out of state Hunting
jjb4900 replied to BizCT's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Some species aren't worth waiting to draw....take Moose for example, you could apply to Maine for years and never get drawn and if you do, it wouldn't be much less than a hunt in Newfoundland that you could take whenever you want with greater odds of getting one... -
well, they mention Snowden, a government employee that was privy to certain information that was not to be made public.....absolutely not freedom of speech or press, that's why he's hiding out in a foreign country.

I'm pretty sure a local municipality doesn't have the ability to lessen a state law, if NY's law is 500' feet that's what it is.......by the state moving it to less than that, the local municipalities still have the authority to keep it a greater distance or tweak it as they see fit.........much like if the state maximum speed limit is 55, a local town can't increase it, but they do have the authority to lessen it.
