  1. Lighten up Mike, it was a harmless freakin' joke! I'm sure most guys got it. Sorry you didn't. Good grief...
  2. Yeah, can you imagine if everyone jumped on board the crossbow revolution just because they thought it had the support of P&Y. I bet a lot of folks would. Not good when hunters can't even make up their own minds, or form their own opinions without a well know organizations backing. This thread and many like it would be a lot shorter if we could weed out all the misinformation that gets posted as gospel.
  3. Just make something up like some of these guys do and we have to believe you. I did a little digging and found this There you have it!
  4. Well.., if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with baloney seems to be what this is turning into AGAIN!
  5. Got this vid last month.... I think the little fella was just "poking fun" at his mom. Click pic..
  6. Thought I'd snap a few pics on my hike today. Since I didn't see any living, breathing creatures I decided to make my subject for the day one of my favorites........SNOW!!! This first pic of SNOW shows how much of it the deer have been digging through in this spot. Only about 18-24" here under the pines which makes it much easier on them here. This next shot of SNOW is looking back at a little gulley crossing I passed through on my way to take more pics of SNOW some place else. I thought I would head up to the corn field to see if there was any SNOW there as well. Today must have been my lucky day, because the field was also loaded with SNOW! There was so much SNOW in fact, that it looked like the corn stalks were only a foot tall! I thought for sure since there was so much SNOW at the field that there wouldn't be as much SNOW around the edges. Boy was I ever surprised to see there was so much SNOW that it was literally flowing over the sides! This is one of the most impressive SNOW structures I've ever seen here! I've never been inside such a cool SNOW tunnel before so I couldn't resist even with the potential threat for an avalanche! I was secretly hoping it would cave in so I could be covered in soft, white, cushiony, SNOW! The SNOW tunnel from the other side.. After I left the tunnel, I found where some beautiful flowers were poking out of a nice warm blanket of SNOW! I couldn't believe this winter wonderland of SNOW I was surrounded by...... even the plain SNOW had an amazing eye catching appeal to it unlike any SNOW I've ever seen before! .....and just as I was about home I spotted this mirage sticking out of the SNOW. I think I have gone SNOW blind, because I really thought I saw an antler sticking out of the SNOW! C'mon spring!!!!!! SNOW blows!
  7. That was a single shot 12ga. I borrowed from my uncle. Not your typical "turkey gun" by todays standards, but that bird couldn't tell the difference. I don't even know the model, but it's an easy gun to carry around for half a day.
  8. Best for me had to be last turkey season after I killed a bird and had this little deer show up and follow me over a mile all the way home.
  9. As soon as Four Seasons Whitetail moves out of his place I'm moving in! Should be some nice fat deer in his area this year, lol
  10. To be totally honest with ya, I'd be looking for a new., or more property to hike. If you're looking for a specific buck, it may be hard to walk away from that area, but if you just want to find more antlers, you need more ground. Sometimes certain areas can look like gold mines but rarely reward you with any sheds. Sounds like you may have wasted the last 10yrs in one of those spots, lol.
  11. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of chow out there for them this winter in my area, but I know how that can differ from one town to the next. Check out this link that talks about how Minnesotas DNR has special funds set aside for emergency feeding programs.and how they decide when it's time to step in. http://www.realtree.com/realtree-outdoor-news/minnesota-dnr-oks-feeding-deer-herds-hit-hard-by-old-man-winter
  12. Very cool backyard visitor! I would love to spend a day watching him and snapping a few pics! Lucky you, and thanks for the shot!
  13. Whatever it takes man. If I feel it needs a bipod to obtain it's maximum accuracy potential in a hunting situation.. , then by golly, that's one more accesory I'll add! Same way my guns and vertical bows get customized to my personal style to make them as effective and deadly as they can possibly be in my hands.
  14. Will they come back to this hive this summer? I was hoping I didn't disrupt something too much if there's a chance of them returning. Now that I think of it.., I know where there was another even bigger hive last summer in a giant hole in a cherry tree. I'll have to check on it next time I pass by! They've been coming to this one for 2 or 3 years now, but I've never thought of raiding it while they're swarming around. So much for shed hunting till some of this darn snow melts.
  15. Litteraly... I did a little hike this evening and decided to take the long way around to check my cams. Along the way I found this honey bee hive in an old rotten tree so I had to reach in to investigate like a curious little woolybear! I managed to pull out a few good size waffles of honeycomb and they were still dripping with oooey gooey goodness! I read somewhere before that honey has a crazy long shelf life so I couldn't resist a taste test! I sat there licking my fingers for a half hour before I had a good sugar "buzz" going and decided to move on. I packed a few of the bigger juicy chunks out in a big ziplock, and I'll try to drain them for later! Anyone know a good way to do this? There's still plenty left in there I can go back for. Funny thing is.., I probably got a bottle of honey in the fridge right now and no cravings for it in a long time. This must be some REALLY special stuff for me to feel the need to rescue the rest before "Pooh" wakes up,lol
  16. Well in that case, you're smarter than I gave you credit for. You should have no problem figuring out what I'm getting at by providing you with this link. http://huntingny.com/forums/forum/18-gun-and-hunting-laws-and-politics-discussions/
  17. Maybe some of that "sophisticated school book learning" would have taught you guys safe act crap doesn't belong in a crossbow thread. Start with that genious.
  18. Ooooops..., I must have clicked on the wrong thread. I was looking for good information about the crossbow proposal, but I accidently found myself reading through more safe act fodder. Somebody flag down one of the zoo-keepers so we can get these animals back in their cages!
  19. wooly

    Huge spike

You know what they say...."he'll never be anything more than a spiker." Wonder how old that sucker is.
  20. Maybe not as big a joke as it may seem at first glance. Some places out west already have set seasons or bans on shed hunting to minimize pressure on deer and elk durring the winter and early spring. Running antlered game with quads and sleds to the point of near exhaustion to stress them enough to drop sooner. Camping out and following heards of animals all over the countryside durring a tough time of year adds a lot of unnecessary pressure post hunting season as well. The easiest way to enforce animal harassment like this is to ban the removal of the "trophies" (antlers) from these areas. It's also an effective way to discourage poachers from killing racked animals and returning at a later date to retrive the skull and antlers.
  21. At least you don't have to worry about the 'bone beavers' chewing on them where they're at! He'll be a good one for sure! All this snow is really slowing everybody down this year.
  22. Awesome man, congrats on another! You're making a run for the title this year! Great job not letting all that snow deter ya!
