What a freak....that aint a leg, that's an ARM! When I zoom in, it looks like she's wearing a wrist watch and a wedding band!

Doing your own 100 mile check up on a quad.
wooly replied to First-light's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I've never sweated 100 mile check up, but 100 hrs is a differnt story. Being a plumber by trade, I leave that kinda stuff to the mechanics. Usually at that point, there's more critical things that need to be looked at besides fluids, hoses, and gaskets that I'm just not qualified to tackle anymore. -
That's a really good tip right there. Sometimes we put too much faith in our initially well thought out set-ups and are reluctant to accept the inevitable that's unfolding right before our own eyes. Although patience is a valuable attribute most times in a hunting situation...sometimes you just need to get off your stump and make something happen. This is especially true durring peak rut as soon as you see some HARD chasing going on. Don't waste any time abandoning your stand setting up directly on the HOTTEST trail through the timber!

Odd you should mention that... I sat on the crapper today and a long silky rope shot out my azz! Went out to hang a stand this morning and climbed right up the tree trunk without installing any steps.... Stopped for lunch at the restaurant in town and found a fly in my soup...... It wasn't half bad.

Well, it's that time of year again! Everything and anything out there with fangs or a stinger wants to sink them into me and have a little taste. Last week at sisses, while ten feet up a ladder, with a pole chainsaw 10 feet over my head, I had a quarter sized spider fall into my boot and take a bite of my ankle. It immediately felt like someone dropped a hot ciggarette butt on my skin. Fortunately, under the circumstances, I made a safe trip back to ground level and shook the little sucker outta my boot and watched him crawl away after a few pics. The pain lasted for about an hour, so not so bad. Today while in the home stretch of my hike I get blasted again in the same spot but on my other foot. This one felt like I'd been shot! I started swatting before I could get a good look at the hungry bugger and figured I'd just walk it off as usual. All I know is it looked yellow. Here I sit almost 8hrs later and my ankle is still THROBBING and swollen... a reaction I've never had up to this point with any insect. I don't know what the heck got me, but I'm about ready to cut it open and suck out the venom before it spreads to my trigger finger. I'm just hoping it wasn't one of those NYDEC scorpion transplants they released to control the exploding terrantula population. Is it October 1'st yet????????

Nice! When the SHTF that thing will be sprayin' "S" all over the place!

Prep...what's that???? Don't you have cable? It only takes a 1/2hr to kill a mature buck and be the envy of your forum brothas! (SHORT VERSION) EXTRA..., EXTRA.....read all about it,lol

Ahhhh hell, you're still a young buck! Back in my day, momma used to flash the porch lights or simply slam the front door shut. If you weren't home by lights out, ya slept with the critters..... not that that was such a bad thing, lol! We all could use a little extended family some days!

Was wondering about this myself. I got the either sex tag, but no bow/ML antlerless. Seems it's getting a little late for DEC to be making last minute tag corrections via snail mail..

Thanks all! It's been a great summer of camming so far for me this year. Once all the velvet is off, I expect to see the fall dispersal put a few new faces in front of my cams and a few of the home bodies take up new residence someplace else. The anticipation going into this season is at an all time high. I wont be picking and choosing between any of these guys. The first one to offer the opertunity gets it, but I secretly have my sights set on the 10pt in pics #1,2,3, and 6.....I call him "Franken-tines"!

He's a public land park monster erussell....I doubt he'll ever make it up far as my way, but he's only got 3 miles to go.... The rut pulls a lot of them summer hobos out of hiding so it doesn't surprise me to see a real honker show from time to time,

These may not work for everybody, but they are realistic trophy goal bucks for my hunting properties. Here's a series of a few bucks that do it for ME!

I'm proposing a slot limit structure that will work both ways and should keep everyone happy.... A minimum of 3pts. on one side for the recreational meat hunters, and a maximum 4pts. on one side for the true trophy hunters!

A few years ago I was bull rushed by a rut struck buck (3pt) in the dark 20yds from my blind. He made 3 or 4 passes at me, would stop 10-15yds away and turn around and do it again even with my headlamp shining on him and me hitting the deck. Every time I could feel the WHOOOSH of wind as he blew by only feet away. I had gotten video of him that morning sniffing a mock scrape in front of my cam. The day before I had accidently spilled 1/2 a bottle of Tinks on my hunting clothes while prepping some scent wicks.

Good point.....maybe I need to start scratching "SOS" in the leaves just in case you're right, lol
-
Worse case scenario, you could soak the head in boiling water and pull the entire insert.

I do quite a bit of camping in the spring of the year when I can't make it home before dark after a long days hike. No tent, no camper, no sleeping bag, just a pack of smokes and whatever snacks I packed with me...... now that I think about it, by some folks standards, maybe I'm just sleeping in the woods, lol

I aint trying to sound like a smartass...but why don't you simply follow the trail back to the source? You say fresh trails every visit...get on 'em hound dog! No sence over complicating things, and you get to confront the perps face to face. To me, that seems like the way to get to the heart of the matter without beating around the bush.

I'm pretty sure that most IR cams are gonna make a distinct "click". It doesn't happen all the time, but when the cam switches from taking no flash daylight pics to night time IR...or vice versa, the filter either drops down or raises in front of the lens alerting game. The first trigger when the cam is switching between daytime/nightime modes is when you'll get a sound out of them. It shouldn't make any noise besides that, but like you say, that initial shot is what tips them off.

Interesting post! I'm not exactly sure what gives some folks the idea that hunting is a competiton, or even a "sport" for that matter? Maybe it's simply the fact that any time you add a clock into the equation(season start and end dates), somebody always feels the need to get the upper hand to prevail the victor in the end.... We all know the anticipation and prepparation involved in this past time, and nobody wants to come out a "loser". I suppose, no matter what the quarry, or what the intended use for it, there needs to be some way to measure success,.. or some prize to take home,.. or at least bragging rights to justify all the time and dedication we put into it. I'm kinda on the same page with Elmo. I don't feel the need to harvest non edible game species although I've killed my share in my early years simply leaving many to rot. Nowadays, I get much more satisfaction out of observing these critters over killing them nowadays.., just because I can and they are purely beautifull to watch only sometimes. IMO, there's plenty of fellas here into the varmint and predator hunting aspect to keep that a viable means of population control that doesn't demand my support to be an effective tool. That said...Mother Nature always seems to find a way to balance things out on her own if we have a hand in it or not. Make your own decisions that have no regrets and you can't go wrong!

I'd let the taxidermist seperate them if he needed to.... but I'd deffinately want him to put them back together!
-
Sweet pics and bucks! Does that cam fill flash them durring daylight too? I see that reflection in their eyes....or is that set much darker than it appears so that's why it's flashing?
-
You're also on the list of welcome hikers if you ever get out this way erussell.....don't be shy to see my stomping grounds if your ever in my hood.

Man, that's just a cool "close encounter" no matter what the circumstances! Glad you had your cam handy! I had a wild fawn lick me this spring.....you just never know what some critters are gonna do when you meet up at the right place, at the right time.
