  1. Stay home until you learn how to behave yourself... If you thought that was appropriate in front of an audience, there's no telling what you'll do when no one is watching you.
  2. LMAO- I did..., but I'm having a hard time finding any of them this year too, so..., back to the antlers!
  3. Nice job Joe! Keep after them and you'll have more pics than you'll know what to do with! Nice work freezing the runner. I like the first shot best too, but you cut her legs off,lol Try to keep the sun at your back when you're hunting with your camera and you'll take home more keeper shots! Keep on clickin'..
  4. Hi guys, guess who finally woke up from his winter slumber? I finally put antler #3 on the pile today. I wasn't really looking for horns.... just trying to find a place to cross the creek to take some pics when I spotted this guy melted out in a swampy section. I hope there's more around. I forgot how much fun it is to find these things! Antlers- 3 Sets- 0 Dead bucks- 1 Dead doe/fawns- 15
  5. Naturally the first thing I looked for was antlers, then it was just nice to see so many deer that found a good food source this winter. Good job Pav, that was a pretty critical time of year for them to get through...... if they made it!
  6. I read an article a few weeks ago in a National Wildlife Federation magazine that talked about how effective opposums were at killing ticks while grooming themselves. There was a study which included several small animals and birds that were each "infected" with a controlled number of ticks to see what would happen. The opposums came out on top, with very few ticks that fed to completion before dropping off to chew on a new host. They found that possums would even eat many of the ticks themselves evident by what turned up in their stomachs. If I recall correctly, something like 90% of ticks on possums dropped off before they were engorged (due to aggressive grooming tactics) or were killed in the process, or eaten....., while 90% of ticks on deer mice and other small critters fed to completion before dropping off to look for a new host. I don't know what that has to do with your original post Grow, but I thought it was interesting.
  7. I personally believe the cops would have responded to a "shots fired" call even if it was a day after the fact unless they knew about it. You know, there could be a body laying in the bushes that needs investigating and the deer was just a cover up to throw them off the trail.
  8. I don't know if that's what really happened. Just throwing it out there. Sometimes the hardest part is getting any response from them at all to dispatch a wounded animal. I don't know how much effort they put into seeing the meat goes to good use after that, but I've seen it go both ways.
  9. Maybe it was "the fuzz" finishing off a wounded deer from a MV accident? Flashlights returning could have been squad car #2 making sure they got their man.....err.., deer. DEC may not have responded to you if they already knew what was going on. The neighbors interpretation of them "taking off" may have been just that...... an interpretation of them leaving the scene. Did he get a look at the car?
  10. Lol- I can't believe I posted this mess.... but I was excited to see my first turkey since Thanksgiving!
  11. Couldn't shut this jake up today. He gobbled to some crows on his own from above me, so I got hidden and coaxed him down the hill to have some fun. He strutted and gobbled for over an hour non-stop. The last shot of him he is standing on the side of one of my blow down stick blinds frustrated he can't find the hen he's been hearing. Some dumby forgot to take the big black filter off his lens from shooting waterfalls the other day, so these are really blurry and out of focus. It was great to hear some gobbling today and it really got me fired up for next month even though I screwed up most of the shots.
  12. You're a freaking goofball! Honestly, I'm a little tired of seeing that pic of your lucky pop shot like that's the way you had it planned..... you got lucky, PERIOD! It had nothing to do with what an efficient killer an x-bow can be..., it had nothing to do with Gods greater plan..., and it certainly had NOTHING to do with you being proficient with your weapon and sticking to your effective range. I'm still trying to think of what you'd be holding in that first pic of your bolt had inadvertently stuck in that deers azz. BUT, what a great opportunity to drop a few of my own pics here, so maybe they'll be absorbed into that Biblical abyss between your ears and you can quit wasting Gods time with your constant pleading for help with your inadequacies.. 26yds from the ground right where I wanted my bolt to land without any kind of divine intervention. A quick, clean kill just as I had rehearsed and planned. Making mistakes is going to happen no matter what the weapon, but if your building off of those poor decisions expecting things will always work out for the best....well, I'm sure God will find a way to punish you for making one of his creations suffer in the end. Can I get an Amen, lol!
  13. Grampy...., just wait until you see what's next, lol More fire....., no ice! I took more shots today, but this was the only one I liked the composition of....... and I could have done better. I'm a freaking plumber with a camera, so I hope you guys don't expect too much!
  14. For craps and giggles, I decided to head on down to the creek and try again before it got completely dark so I could catch a bit of the horizon. Blew through 4 wads of wool, and came home with some ice cold soaking wet toes, but talk about fun after dark.... even though it wasn't completely dark yet..... Kinda reminds me of a volcano. We don't get to see too many volcanos here in snowy NY, so I thought this would be my little contribution to global warming and promote some meltdown!
  15. Congrats WNYB! You either know where they are this year or you don't..., and I'm afraid some of us will not melt out soon enough to find out before green up. Nice addition to the horn pile!
  16. Kinda funny all the road sightings being reported here. The electric company came down my road and mowed down a mess of tree tops and trunks about 30ft off the shoulder just about two weeks ago to clear the power lines. Everything that didn't land in someones front yard was left to lay and the deer are hammering the leftovers. Within the last week or so, there have been 5 fresh roadkills within a mile of my driveway. I took a walk down the road yesterday to reach one of my access spots to the creek and on my way home found another fresh roadkill that happened within a couple hour hike. Even those deer that were strong enough to make it through this winter aren't "out of the woods" yet when it comes to finding chow to survive.
  17. Sweet- I'd hunt them all summer with the camera every chance I had. Not sure I could kill one if I learned their habits after that, but I could understand someone targeting them after a dumb luck sighting. I'd like to find a fresh dropped piebald or albino fawn some spring morning when I have the camera along for a hike. Yours look surprisingly white for this sloppy time of year. Cool shots of these little ones, and hope you can follow up with some more of them throughout the summer!
  18. Are you willing to sell that little tripod and SD card separately? I don't need a camera, but I could use that pod as a flash stand sometime, and I could never have enough cards.
  19. Thanks guys! Lawdwaz- you gotta get on your belly and put some sky behind them snowshoes! It's a good thing I'm not hitched. I'm always coming home with a wet crotch after a long day of pictures, lol Glad you carry the camera with you all the time too. I always enjoy what others see on their hikes!
  20. Happy B-day Bucko! Glad your not spending it here "moderating",lol
  21. Finally getting out to hike around a bit now that the weather seems to be breaking. Still too much snow in the timber to go looking for antlers so I like to spend some quiet time around the water to snap some pics and chill out. The sights and sounds are relaxing to me and the birds are starting to show up.. Tried a few long exposures with my ND filters while the sun was high in the sky, and wanted to try a couple B+W conversions to kill some time. Try not to pay attention to the big booger on my sensor that showed up in a few of the pics.... I picked it off already.
  22. My favorite is my Primos Box Cutter. It's one of the few calls I run with enough confidence to know I truly sound like a hen turkey. I'm able to adjust my tone, volume, and range on it in a way I haven't been able to on many other calls without sounding unrealistic, so that's the main reason it's usually the first and last call I reach for.
  23. I'm clueless when it comes to interacting on Facebook, but I gave it a "like" anyhow. Some sweet bucks and good variety of pics. What's the make of that super illuminator USA cam video clip? Damn, that sucker lit the field up real nice!
  24. Great job fellas! Camera man and shooter both get it done again! Thanks for the ticket to the show!
  25. Title speaks for itself.... I won't try to steer this conversation in any direction so I wont comment any further.
