I smoked a BIG FATTY for breakfast this morning!!!
wooly replied to Pipecrew's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Almost looks too good to eat! Nice job on the bacon weave and cool technique to roll the sausage. I'd probably still be taking pictures of that creation tomorrow, lol -
Yeah, I know where you're coming from Rick. I just wanted to see if I could get a few places for her to consider and to see some of the patterns available. Her mind's made up on color, and no one's gonna change that. We'll do our best to stay safe, and make it work! I sent her the link to this post so I don't want her to see this getting off track with everyone arguing about what color they think HER gun should be. Just looking for some more options of reputable dippers with this post, that's all. Thanks for the concern though. It's understood from my end.

I'm not gonna disagree with you for safety sake, but that's not what I was asking. Besides, I bet I could kill a gobbler in a neon tie-dye tee and sweats if I had to!

Can any of you guys recommend someone in the WNY area to dip a shotgun? My sister bought her first shotgun and is anticipating hitting the woods with it in May with me, but she needs to find someone who can do a pink or red and black snakeskin pattern. She's VERY picky and meticulous and will be the ultimate PITA of a customer if it doesn't turn out to perfection. I've never looked into this stuff, so I was wondering if you guys knew of anyone you would suggest checking with. I think she's waiting to hear back from someone in the Boston area right now, but I don't know who he is, how much he charges, or even if he has, or can get the pattern.

Can do..., I think the flag would work as a good overlay for a variety of things. The wheels in my head have been turning for a while with that idea.

The year before last I was shed hunting down the road behind one of my neighbors places. I hadn't been back there in a while, but it didn't take long to realize the scenery had changed. There were tarp tents, fences, and tire piles everywhere, and some old steel roofing walls had been stood up. I didn't know what to think, but my first thought was expecting to find some meth head hobo living in one of these little huts. A little further along I found an old school chair sitting next to a sattlelight dish and some computer board looking contraption. When I walked over close enough to get a look at the chair I saw 4 "sticks of dynamite" all electrical taped together and wired to the computer contraption. My freakin' heart almost exploded before I realized they were old flares that the neighbors kids were using as props on their new paintball course, lol

Great pics! Those Springbok skulls look SWEET!

Nothing but crosses and bibles for me,lol!

My old schools team name used to be the "Holland Raiders". Real cool black and grey uniforms complete with skull and crossbones just like the Oakland Raiders. They did the name change deal and came up with the "Holland Dutchman". Now they have a wooden shoe, or a tulip, or a windmill as their mascot, on a gay purple and yellow jersey. I'll bet a true "Dutch-man" would be offended by this if he ever saw them play, but they needed to keep all the Pirates in town happy, lol!

I give up this year. They can keep those stinkin' antlers! I'm taking up carcass collecting instead. Up to 14 after todays hike.

New Video - Tad Successful
wooly replied to downwindoutdoors's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Well done again gentlemen! Good stuff, and very professional quality as usual! I'm not much into predator hunting, but there's something about the footage you guys put out that sucks me in every time! I really enjoy them all! -
I've had nothing but GOOD experience with Primos. Any troubles I've had in the past with their products were addressed politely and courteously over the phone and they were very accommodating to correct the issues. I think I returned 3 cameras total, each of which was replaced with a new unit of greater value at no cost to me with no questions asked. As a matter of fact, the last camera I returned was even past the 1 year warranty period but they insisted on sending me a new one so I graciously accepted it. Like they say..."you catch more bees with honey"! I'd buy another one of their cams in a heartbeat if I'm ever in the market for one again.

Happy Birthday Pygmy.... wherever you are!

Lol- it's steel wool tucked inside an egg beater, tied to a string, lit on fire, and spun in a circle in front of a 25 second exposure. You only get one shot though if you only have one wad of steel wool, lol Off to the hardware store tomorrow!
-
Dammit- I forgot to tip the tripod up after I got my focus set so I cut off a lot of the overhead spark show! I'll nail it tomorrow night, with a little better composition in a different setting! First time ever trying to spin steel wool for the camera so I knew something would go wrong, but I'll learn from it and do better next time.

Just be aware that judging a deers physical condition can be a little misleading when based entirely off a single set of trail cam pics this time of year. The snow will act as a giant reflector filling in all the shadows between ribs on an animal that may have obvious signs of winter wear. It's obvious the sun is at your cameras back side here looking at the tree shadows, but just keep that in mind. Night time IR pics can also be deceiving as the IR acts as a fill flash that eliminates a lot of the contrast between differences of depth of your subject. (deer) Extreme cases of poor condition may be very obvious under the any conditions in real life, or even on a traditional camera under the same conditions, but you can't always trust what a trail cams flat image tells you on the surface unless you know the basics about analyzing a picture for what it's worth. Sorry to get side tracked on you. Nice shots!

I'll be shooting these again... Out of my $50 New England Firearms single shot, full choked 12ga.... hopefully while wearing my favorite hunting shorts.

I found another dead doe and two more fawns yesterday all on top of the snow but looked like they'd been there more than a few days. I like those encounters of animals eating other animals Joe. Sure there's some pain and suffering that comes along with them, and sometimes it's hard to watch (not for me), but it's a hell of a lot quicker than the long process of starvation, or die off due to prolonged exposure when their gas tanks are running on empty. The coolest thing I ever saw was two yotes catch and kill a fawn. How is that normal for a sensitive guy like myself to say,lol

My recipe is pretty straight forward. Meat Taters Cream style corn S+P My last few batches have included an envelope of taco seasoning that gives it an extra kick, and I prefer to eat it cold after the taters firm up a bit. I could eat it every day!

I'll agree with that right up to the point of it not phasing you in the least. I hope that as hunters, most of us probably cringe at the thought of a shot we've inflicted result in the wounding and suffering of an animal for any period of time longer than desired. We bust each others asses when we hear of marginal shots being taken for this reason. I would hope none of us here enjoys seeing a deer suffer any longer than they have to for any reason. I know you can't control the weather, but I get a bit annoyed when the tears only start to fall when there's a wall of tines attached to the remains, and the rest get shrugged off as mother nature running her course. While I try not to interfere with some of the natural things I see happening on some of my hikes, occasionally I get a little wrapped up in the moment and let my natural "human side" come through on the inside without intervention. It's pretty easy for me to walk by 20-30 carcasses of all shapes and sizes in a shed season without batting an eye, and I'm sure that's what you were getting at as well, but when you see the suffering happening right before you, it makes you think about things a little differently although there's nothing to possibly be done.

You just can't kill some of those old bands. I saw Alice Cooper back in my high school days. The guy actually cut his own head off on stage with a guillotine and continued to do several sets after that, lol! Pretty cool show with him incorporating his illusion performances throughout. My buddy won the tickets from 97 Rock along with backstage passes. When it was time for me to snap a pic of him and Alice together backstage I cut both their heads off. You just never knew what you were going to get back from those old 35mm disposable cameras, lol

He should tell us about it here..... http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/27007-early-bird-contest-to-the-youth-hunt-contest-deadline-to-enter-is-april-15/ A simple show of enthusiasm could land him a nice prize before the first turkey of the 2015 youth season rolls.

I've got a "Flextone Torch" that has a variety of calls on it from rabbits, to mice, to owls, to predator calls, to deer grunts and bleats, to turkey clucks, yelps, and purrs, and woodpeckers. It's small enough I keep it in my camera bag, pack, or pocket for any encounter that may arise while out with the camera. I've tried it on a few gobblers pre season just to see what kind of reaction I'd get from it, but the only reaction I ever got was a shock gobble to the crow call. The turkey sounds are not very realistic, but some of the others are accurate enough to use from time to time.
