  1. ECO's are Police Officers, and can actually enforce any NY laws. Just thought I would throw that out there.
  2. Oh my. They must be really tired!
  3. Yeah, small game is getting hammered in NY. I have to agree. I like seeing different kinds of wildlife, but between the birds of prey, yotes, fishers, habitat destruction/change, small game seems to be at a severe disadvantage. I guess it is a cycle, and eventually there will be such a small population of our small game, all these predators populations will reduce.
  4. Yeah sprayed a little light on purpose to keep some clover. Round Up will kill it with a good dose, but I wanted to till some green clover in for N. Plus the stuff is so hardy, I expect a lot of it to come back in spring.

    Ethics question

"Ethics," is extremely personal, (if that makes sense) and I do not really think there is an answer to your question. I would never condone anyone breaking the law. There is a reason that they do not allow a mercy killing in such situations, unfortunately, it is because of the lowest common denominator in the population that would abuse such a thing.
  6. So complicated for a simple concept. If you do not want people hunting your rural land, generally, that falls under the ECL, and should be posted. (improved/unimproved could be subjective, so post it.) As far as "hunters," taking down those signs, that is another issue. There is a reason it is written that way, and I will give you all an example. I own a couple of parcels in NYS. Separated by maybe 60 miles. One parcel was handed down to me by relatives. The other one I purchased. The parcel that I inherited, I do not care if it is hunted. It is not posted. If someone vandalizes it, that would be covered under the Criminal Procedure Law, or CPL. If someone hunts it, as it is generally unimproved, that is ok, as per the Environmental Conservation Law, or ECL. My other property, where I hunt/fish/live, is posted. There are some areas that may look "unimproved." And that is why I post it. Pretty simple really.
  7. Expecting a little more growth this year as well. Maybe a lot more, as I planted a week earlier, it poured the day after I planted, and we are expecting some warm weather in the week ahead. Hope I did not plant to soon, as they say the deer like the WR short. It apparently gets rank if to tall. I "expect" them to keep it mowed though. Pic from last Nov.
  8. Put the food plot in. 1/2 acre of Winter Rye. They seem to like it, and it seems to last, based on last years results. Tilled in a lot of clover, I would expect some of it to hang on. I just scratched the surface with the new tiller as this Winter Rye will grow on just about anything. Some fertilizer 5-10-10, and 240 pounds of lime. That makes 3440 pounds of pelletized lime added over three years on 1/2 acre. Still low on Ph, but does not seem to matter much. One interesting point, I sprayed just a tad light with round up ten days before, and it killed most of the grasses but not the clover, or most of it anyway. New tiller Plot Good times!
  9. Wear a Cabelas small game orange vest. Lots of pockets. Would not be walking around without orange during gun season. "I thought he was a deer!" Ugh, brown is down with some of those wackjobs.
  10. Exactly. I saw the video. Apparently the OP mixed up two cases they were talking about there. The first case, is someone on some forum, like this one, saying they had their guns confiscated for a misdemeanor that happened 15 years ago. The second, seemed to be a domestic case, maybe an order of protection issued. In the past, if a person had an order of protection against them, their pistol license would be suspended and the pistols had to be turned in until the case was resolved. Under the Unsafe act, it seems it is the same for long guns.

    bass opener

Was a great trip in the Adirondacks! Lots of Bass, no behemoths this year, but a few good ones.
  12. I have had good luck with Brassicas and Winter Rye. Brassicas take a little more work, winter rye will grow on almost anything. I have food plotted for three years, and have had good luck. I planted Brassicas for two years, and Winter Rye last year for fall/winter food. Oh, and clover in the spring. The only thing I would have done different, is reverse what I planted first. I would have started off with Clover in spring, then Rye (late summer) Then the next year clover in spring, Brassicas late summer. You see, Brassicas use up a lot of Nitrogen. Clover and Winter Rye fix N when plowed under, creating the N the Brassicas need. Now I have some pretty good clover growing. I mowed the clover and Rye already, should have some N in the soil, so I am contemplating putting Brassica in in August again. The thing is, the Winter Rye is so much easier, and I had the same amount of deer visiting. The WR also greens up early, providing food in early spring.
  13. Nice work. Are they using it? Do you have a Trail camera on it?
  14. Perfectionist, yeah that is me. I need, have to have, the smallest groups possible. I don't even know why, but getting there is fun. Question about the level though. If you mount the scope and the elevation settings are close to the middle of the scopes range, is it not level?

    Turkey skull..

Why not? Looks good to me. Nice man cave/ shed/ camp hanger.
  16. Warne rings are great. Have them on my Muzzy and slug gun as well. They are rock solid.
  17. Browning X Bolt is a nice shooter as well. My cousin has one in 30-06, Leupold scope. Nice set up. The trigger is very good, and is adjustable. Probably will be my next rifle, maybe in .308. Maybe in the Micro version made for girls and youth. (lol) I like handy rifles. My current hunting rifle is a Savage 110, bought with a Simmons scope attached for 400 dollars in 1996 or so. That Simmons has been replaced with a Leupold, cost more than the whole combo. Shoots under a minute of angle if I do my part though.
  18. I do it all. Why, just because that is how I learned, and if you are gonna do it, might as well be right.

    bass opener

Been renting a cottage on an Adirondack lake for over 20 years. Third Saturday in June. This year my fishing bud can not make it. I am going anyway. Bet I catch the most bass ever!
