My rifle shoots best with a round shot first as well. (BH209) I have not had a problem with taking the first shot, loading "dirty" and leaving it that way for a week. So far with the BH 209 there have been no problems for me. I just clean it after a week or so.

And that squirrel just points and laughs! Stupid squirrel.

Some good sites http://www.weatherstreet.com/weather-forecast/new-york-snow-cover.htm http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/snow-and-ice/recent.php?period=c®ion=30

Do it! I purchased the property that borders mine in June. I had 28 acres, and added 15. Now no one can put a house right next to me, priceless. If you can swing it, do it. It is not like you are throwing money out the window anyway. Land goes up in price, it is a limited resource. Good luck!

I go by the time on my phone, and pack it in. Before these phones (lol) I went by my watch, could be a couple minutes off. If a trophy walked by a few minutes after? I don't need or want any hassles while I pursue this sport. So I go by the letter. I'll get him the next day. Or not, most likely. Does not matter. I want some meat, and some antlers. that is all. Some people get crazed during deer season!

Good luck everyone. Heading up in the morning. Have a safe season!

Dear others as well, Don't shoot at brown either. Only deer!

Question about traveling with hunting riffle overseas
Ford replied to lastedtiger's topic in General Chit Chat
Dinsdale was spot on with the procedures. Missed this thread, as I work at JFK. But you could not have got better advice. -
My neighbor says that the Red squirrels run the Grays out. Strange, since Grays are so much larger. Never seen a Gray Squirrel up at Camp, owned the place for four years. Also no Oak trees for many square miles around, maybe that has something to do with it?
-
I don't know. This place is busy. And they have a very good time frame on getting your mount done. They do good work as well. If I lived closer to you guys, I probably would have my work done there. As far as promoting online? That is the way it is now. Maybe I will get the next one done by your place. (Being you are on this site) What is your average turnaround?

Small hardball, large walnut, whatever. Kind of small for a headshot at 199 yards, no?
-
A 199 yard headshot? I would have to not agree with that. A deer's brain is the size of a walnut. Add a gust of wind...
-
I like both, but do tree stand hunting more. For where I hunt, I feel it is a lot safer having the bullet go into the ground after exiting the deer.

Just liked this little guys pose. Many shots of him right in front of this camera. Must be Ham, not venison. Light battle going on. Only photo of this guy.

Rhetorical question. But I'll answer it anyway. Nothing.

What do you think the DEC is going to do about a violation that has not yet occurred?

This is bugging the heck out of me........

I would think privately? -
I did not read the whole thread, but I will give my 2 cents. I own a small piece of land. I watch these critters go from fawns to mature deer. I plant apple trees, a small food plot, etc. I ask my friends that hunt the property to take a mature, larger doe, if they are so inclined. It is a personal thing, maybe even sentimental, (which nature has no time for as we know). I figure let the little guys enjoy life for a while. Plus the fact that they could be bucks. That is another possibility. Do I look down on anyone that shoots fawns legally? Nope.
-
If you are speaking about ECO's, they do and can enter private land. Just like any other police officer. With probable cause. There is a lower threshold I believe, if active hunting is going on on a property, but don't quote me on that.

Yeah, I have heard fox yelp, and scream, mostly high pitched. The night that the fox growled at me I was standing in my driveway, late dusk. I was enjoying a beer and a smoke in my driveway, looking at the emerging stars. Complete silence. I saw some kind of silhouette walking in the street, then turns down my driveway right for me. I turn on the flashlight to see what it was, and this thing growls at me. Before it even registered that it was only a fox, the beer went flying in the air. lol. It was a deep growl, like a large dog.
-
Fox growled at me once. And it surprised me as well. So I ran for the hills, lol. It was a really deep growl too, surprising for a little animal. They are very vocal.

Thanks. 1st of September.

1/2 acre Winter Rye. They look like Vacuums!

I don't eat veal, but that's besides the point. I don't shoot does with very small fawns. Just not for me. Last year I had a nice doe come by with two tiny fawns, just not for me. Shot a big doe with large fawns. (for me) Do not care what anybody else does though. I am sure the fawns are delicious, not for me.

Excellent! I would like to see that as well. If "they" say we have to control 70% of the coyote population to make a dent, lets do it. Forget deer, (for now) small game takes a huge hit from these predators. Should coyotes have free reign? What will the outcome of that be? Were they always the top predator here in NY? Were there ever wolves here? They seem to like yote meat, at least according to the vast footage taken in Yellowstone. Coyote seems to be what's for dinner for wolves. Absent wolves, which will never be reintroduced in NY, how do we control them? Rhetorical question of course.
