It actually had a good flavor. You could taste the smokeyness but it wasn't overpowering. Which was what I was going for. The first batch turned out dryer than I would have liked but I was building an evaporator as I was cooking. I didn't think I did to bad for my second smoke. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Haven't had any luck in the turkey woods so I just ran 10lbs of venison through the meat slicer and curing. Going to throw it in the smoker Wednesday morning and make a batch of jerky. Glad my brother in law doesn't like neck roast that made up a good majority of the jerky. I'll be sure to take pics during the cook. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

2014 Hunting NY Gun Season Harvest Thread
noahmstone replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Northern zone buck down. I hadn't had a lot of time to hunt this year and decided last night no matter what I was going to be in stand before sunrise this morning. Watched the squirrels from about 6:30 am until 7 am and then it seemed like everything dissappeared. Heard something move at 7:11 and assumed it was the squirrels again and this 6 point walked out. I took aim and let the 7mm08 do its work it ran about 40 yards and stopped and I aimed again and let another one fly and he went down. One shot hit both lungs and the other took out the heart.- 45 replies

Picked up nice Savage for the wife
noahmstone replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
My brother in law just bought the same gun for my sister in .243. She love it. -
I went out last Sunday and picked a couple bags full. Some where small others were the biggest I have ever seen most were average size.

I have the same safe. It becomes much easier to move if you take the door off. Just do not loose the ball bearings in the hinges. When ever I have had to move my safe I take a magnet and pull the bearings out of the hinges so they don't accidentally fall out. The door alone weighs about 200 lbs.

I went out with my uncle on opening day. We had 5 turkeys gobbling off in the distance and getting closer every so often. They quit gobbling and wouldn't respond to the slate, box, or mouth call. After a while a crow flew over head and they started gobbling. My my uncle pulled his crow call out and had them gobbling back for about an hour the only problem was they weren't coming any closer or responding to any turkey calls. I went out and bought a crow call and haven't had anything respond to it yet. I can get them to respond to my slate call but can't get them To come within 200 yards.

Went out last evening to scout and area I haven't hunted in a few years because I haven't had much luck with the turkey's and I'm new to it. When I got home I had one crawling on my hand. Normally when I come out of there during deer season I have atleast 10 crawling on me. I hate ticks with a passion.

I have to agree it looks like skunk cabbage. It grows in wet areas I see it all the time when picking leeks.

Can I sell a shoulder mount legally in New York?
noahmstone replied to WestchesterBowman's topic in General Hunting
Try Craigslist or an online garage sale on Facebook if you have one in your area. My sister and brother in law just bought a mount of a 10 point and an 11 point. They offered the 10 point to me for free and got kind of offended when I told them I wouldn't hang someone else mount in my house. -
I took my hunter safety course 17 years ago. It was an entire weekend. All day Saturday and the first half of the Sunday was all test preparation and taking the written test. Sunday afternoon we all went a 1/4 mile down the road to the shooting range and went through at least 3-4 bricks of .22 shells between all of us (10-15 people) then we all had the opportunity to try out an antique double barrel 12 gauge if we were brave enough.

Private Gun Sale
noahmstone replied to BizCT's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I know that by law he can't but a lot of places are. The only places that I have run into that are only charging $10 is the big box stores. I wasn't impressed that I was gonna pay $35 for a "$10 background check" but I wasn't going to complain when the gun shop a few miles away was going to charge $150 more than my agreed price. -
Private Gun Sale
noahmstone replied to BizCT's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Bubba if this is the same motorcycle dealership I am thinking of between Potsdam and canton he charges more than $10. I bought a pistol off a coworker and went there because another shop in the area refused to do the transfer unless the guy traded the pistol he was selling in for a pistol he was looking to buy and they would sell his original pistol to me for a lot more than we agreed upon. So it was somewhat worth it to go to the cycle shop and pay $10 for the background check and $25 in administrative fees. While talking to the owner he said they have had an ffl for years but no one really knew about it until the safe act and his daughter usually handled all the paperwork but she was off that day. -
You would have to look into the legal aspects of this but from experience you would basically have to keep the road cleared all winter. My father used to be a care taker at a private "park" and part of his job was plowing the private roads. If you do not keep them kept up after so much snow and ice build up a plow will not be able clear it out. If the road is kept up you should be able to use a pick up with a plow to keep it clear all winter. If not kept up even a highway plow is just going to make a mess and get stuck. If doing it yourself was an option it would be very time consuming if hiring it out it will become very expensive. My suggestion would be to invest in a snowmobile.

I had a 97 Polaris xplorer 500 it would go anywhere and you couldn't kill it. It was still plowing and hauling and going wherever I wanted it to up until last May when I had a garage fire. That finally killed it
