  1. I have a guy at work that lives in Raymondville. A bunch of his neighbors claimed to have seen and heard Bigfoot around his property in the last year or two. they asked for permission to setup trailcams on his property and had contacted the tv show finding Bigfoot. His nephew uses stilts to install Sheetrock and is apparently pretty good at getting around on them. They were going to dress him up as Bigfoot on the stilts and send him in front of the trail cameras. They decided against it because it was opening week of muzzleloader up here and didn't want to chance him getting shot. The tv crew was supposed to show up in the end of October beginning of november but idk if they ever did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  2. 12/4/12 Investigator contacted references. Also called to talk to my wife to see if she had any issues with handguns being in the home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  3. This Week In Albany Week ending November 23, 2012 Cuomo Says Special Session Unlikely "During a radio interview this week, Governor Cuomo indicated that he is unlikely to call the State legislature back for a special session before the end of the year. The Governor said that the state’s focus in addressing the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. He said that the issues that he wants to address, including increasing the minimum wage and campaign finance reform, are too complex to discuss as hurricane cleanup is taking precedent." this is part of a union email for work. MY GUESS IS NOT ANYTIME THIS YEAR!!!
  4. You definitely should go with an electric. My father bought a manual one when I was kid we used it one season and went back to making everything into stew beef. I never used another one until I borrowed my father in laws electric grinder a few years ago now I use it for every deer.
  5. my favorite tools for processing are my buck 110 and a quality sharpening steel makes things go a lot easier if you can keep your knife sharp. other than that I use a gander mountain #5 meat grinder it isn't the fastest but it gets the job done. as for jerky I slice some of the meat into 1/8"-1/4" strips as i am cutting everything else up, sausage I just mix the season into some of the burger i already ran through the grinder, most people run a little bit of pork fat through the grinder with their burger they are going to use for sausage but i am lazy and don't mind that it is lean and somewhat dry.
  6. I like it!!! I have been thinking about getting trees in the background of a european mount i have on my leg. I will have to save this to help explain what i am talking about to my artist.
  7. My father gave me his .243 when he stopped hunting. He has taken a quite a few deer with it. He told me that there was only 1 time he took more than one shot with that gun at a deer. He said he shot once and it just stood there so he thought he missed an shot at it again it stood there for a couple seconds and dropped. He recovered both round from the heart. I haven't shot as many with it but the three I have shot didn't travel more than 5-10 yards. I found the same model as my .243 a couple years ago in 30-06 I bought it. The 30-06 sits in the safe because I know what the .243 will do and I have confidence in it. I have thought about trading in the 30-06 for a newer upgraded .243 but I have also thought about trying the 7mm-08. But my fathers .243 will never go anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  8. He was being sarcastic. He was basically saying that with that point of view your chances of actually getting approved for a pistol permit are slim. Personally i am not trying to be mean but looking at your age you got a while to change your point of view and learn a lot before you can actually apply. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  9. I shot mine from a blind this year. It was my first year using a blind, I borrowed it from my uncle. There wasn't any echo same as shooting it resting against a tree or from a stand. I know it is not recommended to shoot through the screens with a gun. That being said I didn't find that the screens blocked out that much wind or rain. In the blind I was using I unzipped the main window about half way and the side windows I only unzipped about 1/4 of the way just enough to see out. I found that to block the wind and rain sufficiently and still gave me a large field of view. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  10. Idk if it is beaver or not but I know a guy that gets a 70 pound beaver every couple years in his traps. I was amazed with the first one I saw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  11. I work in Norwood but live in Franklin county. I had heard from a couple coworkers that there were sightings in Lisbon but never had seen or heard anything official. I was wasn't positive if it was true and didn't want to spread false information with out warning that it may not be true. I have heard they make deer hunting look easy. It seems like all the sighting have been "escapees from game farms" they have been confirmed to be in the state for quite some time now and are supposed to breed like crazy I am sure that some of them may have escaped but I doubt that all of them have. I have been trying to keep up on the topic since the first year they first released open season on them. I find it interesting and alway wanted to go on a pig hunt but don't have the time to travel and don't want to hunt fenced areas. But I also don't want them in my back yard either. 12. anything you would normally use for burger, sausage, stew meat is what i use. I still had 13-14 lbs of burger/sausage left. and you just let it sit there for the 4-10 hours. I guess you need to keep an eye it. it could be done sooner my uncle said his last batch took 3-3.5 hrs. you need to watch for it to "crack"
  13. I have been wanting to make jerky for about 6 years but refused to do it with out the recipe my father used when i was a kid. Every time I asked him for the recipe he would get frustrated and tell me he lost the recipe at some point and searched the internet and couldn't find that specific recipe because he wanted to make jerky also. I went to show my uncle the buck I got the other day and the jerky topic came up. He started dating a woman about a year ago that he dated for a few years when I was a kid. When he got his deer this year he wanted to make jerky and she pulled out the recipe my father had given them 20 some years ago. he was surprised she had kept it all of those years. he copied it down for me and my father couldn't believe it when I showed it to him. it is a simple easy recipe that tastes great 4 lbs venison cut 1/8 -1/4 inch thick 1 1/3 TBLS salt 1 tsp pepper 2 tsp onion powder 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp worcestershire sauce 12 drops tabasco sauce 1/4 tsp thyme Add just enough water to cover meat. let the meat marinate for 24 hours. place oven on warm. stretch meat over racks. place in oven on warm for 4-10 hrs. I have 8 lbs marinating as I type this I can't wait till it is done.
  14. DEC says shoot on sight anytime of day or night with as little as a small game license. I have heard of sightings in lisbon which is in 6A but that is just hear say. there have been definite sightings in Peru ny which is in 5A. DEC confirmed a herd of hogs in an orchard in peru and tried shooting and trapping. the nytimes released an article about the pigs in peru. as much as I don't want to see the destruction they cause I would love to shoot and eat one. google "feral hogs peru ny" it was an interesting article.
  15. 114lb 4 point first dear in 3 years shot at 7:15 am. I wasn't gonna go out after I went out to check the weather because it was so cold but somehow I got my hunting clothes on on the way back to bed. I'm glad I did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  16. I am stuck at work in St. Lawrence county little bit of wind a light sprinkle not enough to actually notice. I just hoping the worst of it holds off until after 10pm so I can go home tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  17. It really seems that way. If more law abiding citizens weren't in the frame of mind that guns are bad I don't think we would have that problem. Guns aren't bad the criminals that get all negative publicity for guns are. Guns with their proper use and handling are no more dangerous than any other tools. That is what they are a tool and with proper treatment they can be very useful and bring an entire family together for a day at the range or a day in the woods. But what is interesting about family bonding the media would rather release negative reports on guns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  18. Went to gander mountain yesterday to look at 2 pistols I am trying to choose between when I get my permit. They told me it was illegal to even let me hold one unless I was licensed to carry. I thought it was legal as long as you were in the presence of the dealer/ permit holder. Btw trying to decide between the smith&wesson mp40 and the m&p40c Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  19. I took my bow hunter course in the beginning of September. The instructor said multiple times that he has pushed for baiting to be legalized for years. He never came out and admitted to baiting but it was a topic he kept bringing up. He also stated he used to have a DEC officer sit in on his classes and the DEC officer would inform the classes that 98% of the deer shot in their county and our county were shot over bait and if "caught" them baiting they would be fined. Then the DEC officer would tell them how his neighbor dropped a ton of carrots in plain view every year but he never "saw" him hunt near it. This will be my third year of tag soup if don't get one and the thought of baiting has crossed my mind but I still haven't sunk that low and probably never will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.

    let off %

I was having this discussion last weekend. My wife's uncle was saying that he can only comfortably be at full draw for 15-25 seconds. He didn't know what the let off was off the top of his head but I let him draw my bow with 80% let off and he said other than it being left handed he could sit at full draw all day if he had to. The higher the let off in my eyes the better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  21. I really wish there was a way to check the progress of your pistol permit online. You can check the progress of just about anything else online. It would make the wait less frustrating. But it will probably never happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  22. I just got the Nikon prostaff 3 a couple months ago and it works great for my needs. The only thing that made spend the few extra bucks over the Simmons is the fact the Nikon is "waterproof". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  23. I wear a pair of lacrosse polypropylene liner socks, a pair of cabelas heavy wieght wool socks, 1200 gram insulated lacrosse boots. My feet stay warm but don't get sweaty. And my feet normally get cold very easily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
  24. Good luck it definitely isn't a short process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
