LIVE From The Woods 2019 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!

140 is a very big doe. My buddy shot one that was 168 field dressed but she was Doezilla. I agree with others that an average good size doe is in the 110lb range. -
I prefer the shoulder mounts too. But these are fine for the hunting room.
-
The original skull hooker may be a better product. Never seen one in person. These do a pretty good job with reasonable adjustability for $20.
-
So cool having video and then the mount.
-
My wife thinks euros are creepy. She doesn’t gripe about shoulder mounts so in the interest of cooperation my 2 euros were relegated to my basement hunting room. Bought these cheaper skull hookers on Amazon. They work great. Easy on and off but secure. Plus you can tilt euro or turn it side to side. Not bad for $20.

Thanks all. I will grab boxes of the federal premium nosler, fusion and Barnes vor and see what she likes.
-
For sure one I was looking at. Of course its the most expensive of the options. lol
-
which bullets do you prefer? I suppose I could work backwards from the bullet to full manufactured loads.
-
Going to try to get my tikka T3X light 7m-08 sighted in and may have the Quigley ford scope made for it. Looking for manufactured ammo (I don't reload) that has performed well on game and has shown to be accurate. Obviously I will need to try a few but hoping some of you can get me started with ammo that has worked well for you. Thanks

I assume its similar to roku. That's all we use at my home. Good deal for someone looking to stream.
-
Just a guess, I recall it was early. I don't keep notes. You are probably right as we were already in daylight savings time.

This snow seems to have shut down every deer here

This is big AG country that is heavily hunted all around. My parcel is wetland with tons of cover bordering large fields and one sanctuary (no hunting preserve). This year we just didn't get there much as we had success early on another parcel and Culver spent much of gun season at his own camp. I did kill one doe there early and generally there is a solid population of both bucks and does, but I suspect they were all hiding in our heavy cover from the pressure on surrounding lands and lack of pressure on my parcel. I certainly have no problem killing does there and don't think as a general matter that we have an unbalanced heard in the area. -
1 hr before the season ends and I got a nice big doe

No idea. Had electric fence ribbon wrapped on one antler. None of that in close proximity -

Laid my hands on one more set of antlers. Gut shot deer from bow culver found at one of the properties. There were still crows on it a month later. Picked clean. Decided to grab antlers as I pulled cams for year. -
Drew you have to answer the question. You shot two older bucks this year. Did they just have lousy scouts?

In the category of no good deed goes unpunished, I drag myself out of bed at 5am to take the new hunter out a third time. He has no car so I have to drive an extra 20 min both ways to pick him up. Wait 20 min outside his house and he doesn’t answer text or call. Decided to sleep in. Nice. Thanks for the heads up. I am home and done for the season. No desire to shoot or butcher another deer Good luck to those still chasing tail. -
You love to throw digs wolc and I would be happy to compare the maturity of the bucks I killled in my first 8 years vs your 40years of hunting and the answer is no. As I said, all solo. No “scouts” at all.
-
Wolc do a poll. I suspect most people will agree that most if not all 3.5 or older bucks they killed were either solo or chasing a doe. I know that’s the case for me. The exception would be an early or late season buck that was in a bachelor group and yes the older tend to be the last to show. Doesn’t make the younger ones scouts. The older bucks are more cautious.

I was sure she was hit from reaction but tracks were clear in snow and not a drop or hair. I was surprised too. -

Ok I must be a lousy mentor. Swing and a clean miss at a doe at 60yds by the new hunter. Seemed calm at shot. Doe kicked but no hair or blood. Followed trail for several hundred yards. Nada. Ugghh. -
Bear is cut to center I believe. Might require slightly weaker spine or head weight than a BW for example.
-
I should add that a bow cut past center allows for stiffer spine. As does a deeper hook in my experience
-
Shooting axis or power flight 340s at 30” with 250g for my Schaefer and black widow at 55-53lbs respectively. My 48 lb BW tuned with axis 400 at 29” with 300g. My true DL is 28.5” or so. Doubt Culver will help unless gorillas marvel at your DL. Lol
